Good eye! Yes, the Scimitar is based on the Sentinel in terms of my inspiration for its design, though I wasn't going to mention that, just as I didn't mention the Y-wing's influence on the Spatha. I decided it might be more fun to see who speaks up and recognizes where I got my inspiration for certain ships. What I'm really excited to see is people trying to guess which Estee ships are based on which Star Trek ships.

Thanks, Cosmic. That's a good quote to live by, now that I think about it. I guess it's a good thing I decided to stop specifying what some ships are based on. And your praise counts for a lot, everyone's does. If it counted for nothing I wouldn't have this status thread.
This seems as good a place as any to explain a bit more on this point:

As a result most of the Scimitars seen in-game will be in the hands of civilian traders or as escort craft manned by USEC employees when their Kestrel variant can't be brought to bear.
Pay attention to the bold section. There will be several versions of the Kestrel in HOTS, and a few different graphic sets for it, too. There's the original, old Kestrel in use by pirates (and ONLY pirates as the newer versions surpass it by so much). Then the modified variant in use by USEC, though it shares the same paint job and is modified solely by internal hardware and software. Then there's EEI's revamped model, a heavy frigate with its own paint job and a distinct hull. The last two variants are the Mk.II and Mk.III in use by Goliath Shipping. The Mk.II shares a similar structure to the original Kestrel but has Goliath's paint scheme. The Mk.III, though, is slightly bigger and has two tail-fins instead of one.
