      Hey,
I have some great ideas for a bunch of missions for G.O.F.T. and was wondering if anyone would like to help? I'm willing to write the missions, avalibility and all that junk and if some one wants to put that into a plug, it be great. Just give me your e-mail and we'll figure something out. 🙂

    • What are your ideas?

This is a general question, not one denoting specific interest.

    • Some of my I deas are: starting the missions at that pirate system above Reble II with a simple mission to intercept a convoy, then your allowed into the guild and given missions like that at the BBS. then at some point, join the guild with the houseless raiders, and then start having free trades in the Arouran(sp) area and missions in the BBS there. Then having a point where you can choose to defect into the bounty hunters there fore starting the bounty hunter missions. Also having some battles with the bounty hunter guild. I could also add in my tractor beem that I'm making some where along the line.
Also you couldn't of have started the BH guild missions.
I'll do some adding on to those ideas.

    • It's a good start. Do you have a plot outlined yet? You're going to have to create some sort of motivation for the characters to move it along successfully.

I was thinking of it sort of something like the BH guild where you get bigger missions in the BBS as you go. If I add in this tractor beam I think that would be some motive to get that. I could also have it lead into to Pirate string which would be neat. What do you mean Pilot Outline? Like an outline of the missions, so that they aren't all random missions that your doing?

      (/B)

Yeah, that's what he means. Like all the major storylines(Vellos, Polaris, etc.) have a linear mission progression, a story. Granted, the BH string is mostly BBS missions, but you'll occasionally be asked to do specific things by the leadership of the guild. Like opening the chapter in Auroran space, and taking out guild defectors. So, he's basically asking: "Does your idea have a plot or is it just a bunch of BBS missiions?" Because one way is just okay, and the other will help make the plug a kickass plug.

    • Well, I guess I'll be doing this myself. So, I will need some help. I have Mission Computer also.Questions:
      1. Can some one tell me what to do with the STR#?
      2. How do I make it so that my bits don't interfera with those in the game?
      3. Can some one explain how to use all the Bit spots (and when I put in a bit to I put: b33 or just 33)
      4. How do I make it so that you need this bit off to start the mission, and not just what ones are ON.
      5. Can some one explaine the breifings part of MC.
      6. How do I write a desc. in the bow when you press "I"?
      7. After the completion of a mission, how do I make a debreifing text when the preson lands?
      8. I someone accepts a mission or not, how do I make another diolog box appear?
      Thanks for the help.
Ps. most of the help I need will be the bits.

      1. Unless you want to add new cargos, mission ship names, or message bouy strings, ignore it for now. It's not important really.
      2. Look at the Add-Ons page. There's a PDF file called, Bits, Desc, & Commodities. It's a little outdated but lists everything used and those still available.
      3. Always put a b in front of any ncb you use. Nova needs to distinguish waht numbers do what. So to identify a mission bit, a b has to be used in front of the number.
      4. Nothing is needed. Just set the randomness level and which planets it will appear on. To unset a bit put a ! in front of the b in the OnSuccess field of a previous mission. To make sure a mission doesn't appear after it's completed, include the ! with a bit in the Available field. That same bit should then be set to activate in the On Success field.
      5. Mission briefing the the text that is given to you after the mission offer text if you accept a mission.
      6. In MissionComputer this is the Quick text.
      7. Set text for OnSuccess.
      8. See 5

Get Nova Calc for your descriptions. Most resources require a corresponding desc ID. This will tell you what it should be. Take a look at the Nova Data 1 misn to see how the original game switched dialogue windows.

I want to make it so that you can't get the missions after you have done the Bounty hunter missions, how do I do that?

By the way, did you get my E-mail?

It's in the Nova Bible, the section on ncbs. If you read it, you'll see that you use a !.

Yes, you could get a lot of answers, but I'm guessing you meant that you couldn't get a lot of answers. Actually you were right being wrong (?). Answers you seek, inside lie within, young grasshopper. It's all there just read a little closer. Reading that thing is how we've all learned to do this. As for ranks are you asking how to give the player a rank or only make the current rank show in dialogue. What you posted only refers to descriptions. To give a player a rank, in the OnSuccess field enter the ID of the rank resource and stick a K in front of the ID.

And yes, I did get your email but I've been terribly busy. I've just finished building 1800 ads with 1 other person, upgraded the server, my friend in graduating collage Saturday, my mom flys into town tomarrow, and I'm still trying to find time to work on my own plug. Don't be suprised if I don't get a chance to look at it.

    • I've looked on the addons page and found a list of a bunch of formulas for the mission breffings, but I'm still missing one for the "objective complete" ID#. Can some one help me?
also, where can I find a list of scan masks for the governments? I opened resedit and upened the governments thing, but I couldn't find the right # or letter, I folllowed the Nova Bible, but it was still confusing.

    • The text for mission completion descs is whatever you want. Nova used a simple progressive formula for most of the mission descriptions. The Offer was 4xxx by default then 5xxx for Accept, 6xxx for Brief, 7xxx for Load Cargo, 8xxx for Dump Cargo, and 9xxx for Completion. I think refusals used 20xxx but I can't remember. Basically, the only text that has to correspond to the mission ID is the Offer. Everything else is up to you. It makes not difference.

    • How doI give my special ship an escort? I tried useing the Aux ships, but those did nothing execpt fly around.
(sorry for asking so many questions)

      ------------------
      RoLLeY49

    • The ShipCount field determines the number of special ships. There are no guarantees as to exactly what types of ships will show up, but they will always act as a fleet.

Auxiliary ships are not what you need to use. I quote the Pre-Release EV Nova Bible, Revision 7/6/01:

      Quote

**The next few fields tell Nova about any auxiliary ships you want to be placed in the universe for this mission. Auxiliary ships cannot be given specific instructions, and no goals can be set for them; they simply are "normal" ships that are placed into the universe for the purpose of adding atmosphere to a mission.

      **

Auxiliary ships don't really do anything, they're just there. However, you could double the size of your special ship fleet by having 31 special ships (the maximum), and 31 auxiliary ships that are all enemies of the player. Of course, everybody would claim you were a sick, twisted, sadistic, satanic person and immediately demand that you be placed in a padded cell for the remainder of your life for the good of society.

      ------------------
Suddenly, the little scoutship disappeared and then reappeared right behind the alien warfleet. The gravitic ship's captain hailed the armada. "You are going to be destroyed, but I will give you a choice as to how you want to spend eternity: big pieces, little pieces, or quarks?"
      Dead silence.
      "Quarks it is, then."
