I was just saying that he could use mail.com (or whatever) and not tell his parents...

I (somehow) have a sense of morals and ethics here. Yes, I know this is prbably wierd.

And how does it take an hour to set up your email program? Seriously, I can set up a new account in MS Outlook in under two minutes, easy.

Yeah, and if I knew what I was doing, it would have only taken me that long. When I set up my grandparent's account, no one present had ever done it with ANY Mac program before. And as for tech support, I had my choice of knows-nothing-about-Macs or impossible-to-understand-accent. It would probably not take me as long the next time, anyway. But I had no other experience to reference to.

What I meant by plots was not for someone to hand me an idea and walk away, but to have an idea and work with me to make a plug-in.

Due to certain above mentioned reasons, I can't communicate by email. I could work in a web topic, but that would have way to many information leaks. My "attempt" at using that plot is going nowhere slowly, because Novatools keeps crashing. When it isn't crashing, though, I am able to make some progress. (All s˙sts (this was actually done in EV Developers Map, actually), most oütfs, and I have gathered the graphics I need from Nova itself. This version will not be released.)

Screams as Resedit sets a new world record for number of consecutive crashes.

I fail to see how this could be considered unethical or imoral by anyone - even ignorant technophobes.

You could always use IRC to communicate privately, if you don't want to give out your email...

Have you tried giving ResEdit more RAM? (like 20-60 megs.) If not, that's probably the problem - because ResEdit and NovaTools are rock-solid on my computer(s).

I believe that title belongs to EV-Edit. 😉

Give it more RAM. I've rarely had ResEdit crash--it's only ever happened to me when I copy/paste large numbers of PICT resources.

He's referring to not wanting to do something his parents have forbid him from doing. As the parent of a fifteen-year-old, I find his attitude refreshing.

I knew exactly what he was referring to. I was saying that I don't think disobeying his parents in this particular way, could be considered "immoral" or "unethical"... Dishonest, perhaps... 😉

Oh, AE, you could talk to your parents. Ask them why you shouldn't be able to make a free email account, just so you can use it one-time to register for a free (confidential) webboard so you can edit your posts, so... This doesn't happen again... Or maybe ask them to register for you?

There's also a way to register without your parents knowing, without disobeying your parents, (unless they have some other rule against IRC) and without an email...

      ------------------

    • When you register you have the option to hide your email address from everyone on the boards. Tell your parents this so they understand that registering an account does not involve revealing your email address to anyone. I'm sure if you approach them and discuss it reasonably, your parents might let you do it. You have nothing to lose. A registered user here can be just as anonymous as an unregistered user.

Yes, and that makes it crash more often. (?) I think it's time to run some kind of file-chcking software on this thing, anyway.

I tried talking about ten times. The why is because "you spend too much time on the computer, or something like that. As for registering for me, they would trust me enough to fill out a form, I just can't give out my email.

I thought it was only Ambrosia's staff and the moderators. Has anyone ever recieved any unwanted mail because of registering? I'll have too try that argument. Hopefully...

As for EV-Edit, I've never used it. I guess that is a good thing. Actually, nearly all (if not entirely all) of Res Edit's crashes occoured while I was making outfits. 73 of them. After 2 or 3, it would crash. Heh, maybe I'll eventually get this thing done. (Of couse, you can't test a TC halfway though.)

Well, you could try and get a friend to register you...

Hmmm... Have you tried redownloading Nova Tools and ResEdit? Perhaps they got corrupted during download... You also might want to try turning off any virus-protection software if you have any, though I don't know why that would make a difference. Turning off extensions might help aswell, but I can't see how.

What version of Mac OS are you using? Does your computer crash consistantly when doing anything else? Like running a specific application or game? Or doing a certain task in the finder?

      ------------------

    • As you can see, that argument still didn't work.

I meant that I thought only those people would not be allowed to send me mail.

OS 9.2.2, G4 Cube 450, I have very few third-party extensions and no virus software (at least, I don't recall installing any), the only other regular crash-happy program I have is Descent 3. Res Edit crashes when I open or close a oütf editor (it draws about 35% of the screen, then stops), about 40% of the time.

Suddenly realizes this plug requires about 25 fighter variants, and therefore requires 25 duplicated Rlë8's/Rlëd's. Plus about 15 duplicated fighter bays. Res Edit also dosen't like large file duplication.

Maybe I will submit this plug after all. If it doesn't rquire giving my email (not again!) (Is it just me, or does a warship with the class name of "Fat Mouse" make everyone laugh on sight?)

I do have a friend who might be able to register for me...

      Thanks for the help..

If anything, it's the other way around. But I believe checking those prefs well make your email completely invisible to everyone. (even andrew!)

Hmmm... Sounds like something might be wrong with your Graphics Card and or Drivers. Go to ATIs website and download the most current version of drivers available for your graphics card. You also might want to turn on B&W; interface for Nova Tools. (in the 'Nova Tools' menu, I believe)

Are you running any other applications when ResEdit/Nova Tools/Decent 3 crashes?

Oh, and how much Physical RAM do you have?

Yeah, ResEdit doesn't like big files. Why do you think Nova has 26 data files? 😉

1: The Finder and the Launcher (I hate digging to find my apps.)
      2: 3 128mb cards, or 384 megs.
I turned on the B&W; interface already. Time to go to ATI's site, anyway. This card never did work right and/or well ... (Rage 128 Pro, to my knowledge)

I've got six or seven, already. And it's only been two weeks!

Man I hate "end of file" errors. (file corrupted.)

Goes off to find new drivers.

There you go. NovaTools, for some reason, has a strong aversion to 9.2.x, and there have been many reports of it freezing or crashing while in 9.2.x. That is probably your problem. The only solution I can think of is downgrading to 9.1.x, if you can.

Really! That's quite bizzare. I'll have to try Nova Tools on my dads PowerBook. Are R&R; planning on an update?
