    • scaling enemies to ones self

I was just thinking about the way almost all current plugs are designed and even how EV and EVO are designed. I realized they all end up with the same things happening. Either your ship will be amazingly strong and be able to easily take out any ship in the galaxy, your ship will be the same thing it was since halfway through the game or the enemies ships will be much stronger than anything you can get (like the alien cruiser). Then I began to think about the annoying cheat plugs with ships that are insanely strong, nearly invincible and friggin' powerful in all ways. I wonder, why don't we continue to scale the enemies ships and our own throughout the game? It would be fun to have one of these ultra powerful ships like from the cheat plug-ins fighting against enemies with ships like it. Anyone like this idea? Hate it?

    • If I understand what you mean, that is, you want the enemiy's ship to get stronger as your ship gets stronger. I personally lose faith in a plugin that has a really hard ship to beat, as I can assume there will be more like it. There are some exceptions, (dreadnought and black hole from Frozen Heart), but they usually become too hard to play. /me shivers.

I have been a proponent of a similar idea for some time, but the engine is not setup to do the adaptations on the fly. EVN offers interesting possibilities through NCBs.

    • What you describe is difficult (although it may become easier with Nova). Some plugs have attempted to do it -- Final Battle, for example, has missions that get progressively more difficult as your ship (presumably) becomes more powerful, although there is the final, insanely powerful enemy at the end (and if I ever get around to debugging the damn thing, people would be able to actually play that...)
