    • EVES-NOVA update

A new image featuring three independent ships has been added to the Grand Novice site...

      The ships are...
      the Ranger (the scoutship's replacement),
      the Banshee (the Defender's replacement),
and the Dragoon (the Rapier's replacement).

      and you become one...

    • Next I think I'll do the three Atinoda ships... The good ole Kestrel, the Raptor (corvette), and the Firebird (a fighter to replace the Lightning). The Raptor and Kestrel just need a little work, but I want to do something new for the Firebird.

    • damn, you the mack. 🙂 They are some tasty looking ships. How about some weathering on them? It would make them look much more realistic.

Ladies and Gentlemen, as you know we have something special for you at
Birdland this evening. A recording for Blue Note Records...

Let's take it back to the concrete streets, original beats and real live MC's...

Here's what I'm planning for a change in lighting angle for the shipyard images. I think the new angles yields a lot more detail.

    • I can't say I'm as fond of this style as I am of the old one, but they are very nice, as always. Those cockpit supports are bugging me though...how big they are, that is. Can the pilots see at all well?

I think what's lacking is in the older designs, the main hull had more in the way of visible supports, which are lacking here (look at the body of the Ranger and the middle section of the Dragoon). That was a look I really liked, I always thought your ships looked solid enough to collide with an asteroid and just clunk off... Anyway, other than that IMO missing element, they're great!

I had noticed that... Maybe I might try an overlay then to fade the shadows a hair and use the old lighting angle...

You have to remember that on big ships like this, there is usually no single person in the cockpit. It's going to be more like the bridge of an ocean liner, with a large room with several people sitting in from on control boards and milling about. In a fighter, wher there is one person in a (probably) relatively cramped area with the window directly in front of his face, as in the modern airplane fighters we see today, then he would want as clear a view as possible.

Pinky, Are you pondering what I am pondering?
I think so, Brain, but if they called them sad meals, kids wouldn't buy them.

Actually this is the scoutship replacement, which does still have a bigger crew than a fighter. And the Defender replacement does have that nice front dome window in it.
