    • well thanks heaps, but now i kinda have another problem... :frown:
i can't get make spin to work, so once again i'm basically screwed :frown:

    • Screwed is right!! I think there's another program like makespin that you can use, I thhink it's called Picstosprites.

    • You could get any one of these programs... or you can go to the stoneage, master these arts and become a legend...

      The stoneage programs are...

Photoshop - sounds hard, but it's really not too hard. It takes a long while, patience, a good eye, and full extent of the program. Capt. Skyblade is the master at this (though he says his brother and father are better). If you have seen some of his stuff, you could swear that it was done in a 3D program. I took a crack at making my own ships in Photoshop... though they kinda sucked, they weren't that bad 😄 It just takes practice...

Strata 3D - I use this. It's pretty basic... someimes TOO basic. But you can make a lot of stuff in there. I've made some pretty impressive stuff, and proud of them 😄 You may not get the great flare you're looking for, but still, if you master this program, you'll be proud of your work 😄 (url="http://"http://www.3d.com")http://www.3d.com(/url)

      Hope this helps 🙂

    • What exactly does Spin do?

I have made my own ship sprites using Res Edit or EV Editor.

      What I did -

      - Create the ship in Infini-D
      - Animate it so that it rotated in a complete circle in 1 second
      - Make sure that its a LINEAR transition or it will come out weird, it will accelerate into the turning motion and decelerate to stop.
      - Render it at 1 frame more than the desired number of sprites and the appropriate resolution with no anti-aliasing (I think its 36 sprites so I think it would be 37 frames per second)
      - Open the movie in Movie Player, and a new document in Graphic Converter that is 6x6 times the dimension of your sprite (your rendered ship window size)
      - 1 by 1 drag each frame of the movie to form side by side pictures of your ship. The last one will not be the same alignent (up!) as your 1st one, the 1st one should be up by the way.
      - Save it, this is your sprite file
      - Use the Threshold command set to a real low value so that everything that is not pure black is turned white.
      - Save this as your mask file
      - Voila! Your 2 required sprite files. Now just set the appropriate size of the ship (Easy in EV Edit) and you have yourself a spankin brand new custom ship-o-doom! 😛

      ugh, sorry about any typos!

    • In case you didn't get what Squinky said, make an animation of your ship spinning and open the animation in a program like Movie Player(I suggest GifBuilder) and then continue with the rest of his steps. Oh and by the way, it's pics2sprites not picstosprites.

    • well, first of all, a MASSIVE thnx to all who tried to help little old me 🙂
i'll try pics2sprites, and failing that i'll try squinky's very complicated method. i used photoimpact to make a rebel-modified scoutship and clipper (i just need to spin 'em and make masks. btw, how do u make masks??? (cause i don't know what the hell the threshold or whatever command is) ;)) i'm just not having any luck uploading them...

    • A mask is basically the black surrounding the ships spin image if that helps.

    • simple, from the spin you take every non-black pixel and make it white. The easiest way to do this is to use brightness/contrast in Graphic Convertor or the Curves function in photoshop, then use a high tolerance flood fill to make it white. Just play around, you'll find something that works.

    • OK, ummm. Try selecting all the black around the ship and deleting the rest.

    • Hey! I write all that and get nothin' ??? 😛

Sorry if I made the process sound overly complex, I just didn't want to leave anything out.

All you really do is make the ship spin, line up the pictures from the movie in a 6x6 grid, and thats it. Once that is done all you do is use Graphic Converters (or something elses) threshold (or similar command) so that anything that was color is now white.

that's it, your 2 files. Sorry for the confusion! :frown:

No, I don't have icq. On the bright side, 😄 it's snowing 😄, on the downside, it's as cold indoors as it is outside. BBBrrrrr!!!

OK, I won't be able to post much today(my moms having guests over). Squinky-I was using your method and it seemed to work just fine, but I couldn't get the camera angles right, so it looked really dumb. CaosMan-did you figure out the karma thing?

      Seeya!!! 😛 😄 🙂

      ------------------

    • Just use the top view, that will work fine for stardard style ship graphics.

If you want to do them at more of a 3D angle you can try that too, but you might need to alter the rotation a little bit. I have not tried it so I don't really know.

Just use top view I guess.
