    • Creating a spďt resource (EV)

I'm working on a plug-in that more than doubles the number of ships in EV originally. This makes the loading bar at th ebottom of th escreen pause at the end for quite a while before completing. I know I need a spďt resource for this, but I don't know what the formula is for getting the spďt number. If you programmers out there would take but a brief pause from laughing hilariously at me, could you post the formula?

    • No one really knows, maybe you should ask Matt Burch.

    • Well, this is from IRC, so good luck figuring out what bits are relevent =P:

blackhoIe: syntax: how do spit resources work? A guy on the discussion boards wants to know 😉

      Syntax: well... Syntax: hehe
KMQ: well first the saliva code produces exces fludi ram
      blackhoIe: heh
Syntax: i guess the whole golden master thing doesn't even make sense for an online-distributed game :) Basilisk-: heh Syntax: bh: it should be documented in the bible
KMQ: secondly various muscle code comes into play to expell the exces fluid ram 😜
Syntax: IIRC it just tells ev how many total sprites there are so it can draw the loading progress bar correctly kagayaki: umm blackhoIe: not in the EV bible blackhoIe: yeh, that's what the bible says blackhoIe: but if you put in the number of sprites it doesnt work properly ;P Syntax: maybe it's the number of frames instead
Syntax: i dunno offhand Syntax: that's why i wrote it down five years ago 😛
      blackhoIe: hehe

So, in other words it can be one of:

      • The total number of PICT resources

      • The total number of sprite pictures (the full PICT resource = 1)

      • The number of individual sprites

      • The number of sprites including masks

Oh well, just try out different ones until the desired effect is accomplished.

    • Has anyone ever thought of looking in the EV Data file? I mean, I know it has glitches (like the one I pointed out earlier where the Sol düde percentages equal 110%), but the progress bar works right, so the number must at least be very close. I once tried to analyze how they got that number (in the spďt resource), but couldn't get it - maybe I'll take a few days off from life in general and try again.

    • The spit resource really doesn't affect anything except the bar, so to get it right, first finish your plug, then when everything else is done, copy it over from the data file, and use trial and error to find the value that makes it look right when starting up.

Oh and if you're good with the cluts, you can change its color too. 😉

      Uh, only in EV.

In EV:O, all you can do is change it to a slighly different shade of green. :frown:

Hmm - once upon a time I must have puzzled out the answer to this one (since Override has a reasonably accurate spďt. Now, I haven't the slightest idea which of the above is the answer. However, how about this: compare the number in the spďt resource in both EV and EVO, and then work out which of the above compare (proportionally 🙂 ) to those numbers - then extrapolate for your own. Or just trial and error. Or then again it's probably too much fuss about nothing - all it does is update the status bar after all.

(Maybe this is some sinister power of the spďt resource - Matt doesn't remember, I don't remember, numerous other designers of large plug-ins/scenarios must have entered values for their own spďt resources, but no one can remember how it works - personally, I smell conspiracy!)
