    • Dilema. Do you want Exodus now?

I have reached the stage where a choice has to be made. The plug CdH - Exodus has 74 missions but is not nearly finished in my eyes: not until the entire Crescent is under the Voinian heel. However, there are still a lot of missions and a lot of stuff happening, and the plug is damn fun to play if I do say so myself.

Now, I look at my schedule and see that work on the plug will be very slow in the coming weeks because of various reasons - college, work, life ect

What I want to know is, would you rather wait for a finished product with the Voinians, say, taking the Zidagar system, or should I just make a final mission on the plug and release it as it is, with a sequal forthcoming at a later date?

If I continue to work on it the delay of release will rise significiantly. I therefore leave it up to those who will play it to decide the plug's fate.

Please post your opinion so I know what's happening. I will go with the majority whatever the outcome

    • Sorry, forgot ma' password.

I say release it. While people are flying around trashing Crescent Aliens, work on the plug's sequel can be completed. 🙂

    • Yup. Release it. Let's see what ya got! If there's going to be a delay before you can get back to it, there's a good chance that when you do you'll have gotten useful feedback on part I in the meantime, and will have had all sorts of fresh new ideas of your own as well. CdH Exodus II will be the better for it!

    • I'd say to wait for the finished product. I like to play through something in a day and then do it again the next day. (Starting a new pilot each time =))

    • Go ahead and release it. I want to see what kind of idea you had in store for the Voinians. Voinians abandoning their space, and invading the Crescent instead is pretty crazy, so I want to see it. Its crazy because why would they abandon their space suddenly? It does do the Voinians-conquer-Crescent element though, which has never been done, not enough even in ROTV II.

    • But wouldn't you rather have it posished?

    • I have to agree with Visitor (but not his spelling).

If you ask people 'shall I release now', they always say 'yes, release it'.

However, if you wait until it's finished, beta-tested and polished, and then release it, they will love you for ever.

    • I agree with Martin here. If you release a not-entirely-finished plugin (such as the B5 TC for EVO, which had a whole load of graphics using EVO sprites) then people will have a low opinion on it. Take a few months to get it into a properly finished and tested state and people will love you for it.

      cool night air is curious

    • I see.

Well I'll have to consider it for a while and then make my decision within the week. The most likely event is that it will be released ahead of schedule but I might add a chunk of storyline at the end without having the change any systems or spobs (which is getting increasingly difficult as many systems in the game change 2-4 times), or perhaps the Final Press on the Zidagar system for instance.

As it is the galaxy has already been vastly changed and although I didn't put in as many innovations as I might have liked, the story is long and juicy. I might do some more work on that aspect but for now it's just hardcore bug-testing, what with life and everything.

At any rate, I hope you'll all enjoy the plug.

I feel your pain on that one bro. Multiple switch backs are a bitch. As for the plug, I'd wait until its entirely done then release it.. doing it in stages hasn't worked well, as far as I can recall..

    • How is it going?

      ------------------

    • Heh, with other projects, I didn't finish FOTVE either, but have not given up on that. If I released it now, it would probably end up like some other plug-ins that kind of have vaporized to oblivion.

Having it completed like Martin Turner says, and everyone will be your bee-yatch. If you finish your plug, go back and make some fine tuning because first impression is always important.

FOTVE will take sometime to complete. I noticed that some of the popular plug-ins like ROTUE and ROTVE are cool for playing it over again, but sometimes I find certain scenarios to be unprobable.

Your plug-in Exodus, I would expect a really, really good reason why in the middle of a war, the Voinians would all of a sudden abandon their empire. To conquer a new part of a galaxy will require a crapola amount of resources to pull it off.

I also expect that going into exodus will leave the bulk of the Voinians totally vunerable to some extent by their enemies of which they have more than enough to spare.
