      I just can't figure out how to get there; and I've got to 'get something out of the well'

      is it anywhere near "North Gidolan" entrance?

      From the Plains of Endlesswind, go down until you see the sign that says "Go south to leave the Plains of Endlesswind and reach Vanderdeep lake", go down one screen from there, go down until you find the cave, go through it, and once on the other side, go east until you get to the forest. You'll know it when you see it, since it looks like the swamp. Go east from the first forest screen, and it should be on that screen in the eastern edge.

      From the North Gidolan entrance, go up 4 screens and then go two screens left. The well should be on the right half of the screen.
