Keep in mind that if EVO were real, you would have your whole life ahead of you, and probably do many things in that time. Also you would be shaped by the events in your life. So although you might intend to work as a peaceful courier for Frontier Express, if your ship got blown up by Voinians or Renegades once too often, you might find yourself angry enough to go on a vendetta.
Personally, I think I would start out going to a university to study something unrelated to piloting, like history. But my interest in space and my entrepreneurial spirit would drive me to save up money for a shuttle of my own. In order to make that money and get experience in space I would probably serve as a crew member on a small trading vessel for a while. Eventually I would get a shuttle and start doing courier missions. I would probably float around doing that for some time while trying to figure out what to do long term. After all, you can support yourself quite comfortably doing only 1 or 2 rush deliveries a month. 24k creds is a lot for one month at today's scale, or at the scale of a society in which a spaceworthy vessel can be purchased for only 10k.
After some time I would probably begin to establish a trading empire, first hiring ships to travel with my fleet, and eventually expanding to running multiple fleets around UE space. At that rate I could very quickly begin pulling in millions of creds a year. But I would always remain at the helm of my own ship. I can't quite trust anyone else to have as much piloting skill as me. Plus I would dedicate myself to becoming a better pilot (hyperspace allows for quite a bit of time in the combat sim).
Eventually, humans would begin relations with the Miranu. Although I would be unlikely to set up the initial negotiations (travelling around in a scoutship at the farthest reaches of known space gets awful lonely), I would quickly become interested in expanding to trade with them. I would also start adopting some of their technology and adding some of their bulk freighters to my fleets.
With my trading empire now firmly established, I would likely leave the daily tasks of running things to one of my most trusted associates, and spend most of my time tooling around in my private ship, probably a Lazira. Let the lawyers sort out the inevitable legal battles with Stellar Corp.
As my ambition knows no bounds, when I encountered the Zidagar and their remarkable drama, I would begin to import Zidagar theater to the humans and start to become very involved in the world of entertainment... for both races.
In my travels I would become very interested in the Zachit, and (since by now I am somewhat eccentric and rich enough to do as I please) I would attempt to build my skills so I could join their ranks. Then I would throw some of my considerable financial support behind the activities of the Zachit.
As I got a little older and was out of the fiery days of my youth, I would begin to give credits to various charities. I would also start my own, which would be a foundation to assist the Strandless.
The truth is that in the universe of EVO it is pretty easy to make money (if you don't get killed). And once you have all this money (in any universe) you can either live quietly and unknown, or you can embrace your pseudo-celebrity status and be involved in many important events. I would choose the latter.
