As the S.S. Esperanto glided into the spacedock in the UE Government headquarters on Earth, Thunder opened the small leather pouch he'd been entrusted with. Inside were two large, blue crystals, long and hexagonal with pointed tips. The Zidagar man had entrusted him to get these away from the Azdgari, and told him to do what he would with them. Now he was doing just that. The UE had given him his last job, and he wanted to return the favor.

Entering the military headquarters, Thunder spoke to the secretary. "I need to talk to Samurai or Titan right away. I have an important delivery for the UE. Please, be quick about it, I have to return to Zachit as soon as possible."

The secretary got on the comm unit and sent a message to Titan and Samurai, and Thunder waited for one of them to respond...

The "thing" being built on the rock was completed. It has been reported that the rock has disappeared! It's definatly not in its orignal orbit, the most sophisticated scanners could detect no trace of it.
The attackers on Hatuli (what's the planet called? I forget, my mac is down) were sucessful, although they suffered heavy losses from the UE military, who were alerted of the threat. Five of the original eleven dragons survived the attack. Renegade influence in that area is increased, and MY income is increased by .05 million/day.

While waiting for Samurai or Titan to respond, Thunder watched the latest news report on the holovid on his ship. The newscaster first talked about the latest news about the war on the renegade front, then began a story on a new UE officer in charge of weapons research by the name of Taylor. Realizing that this was what he was waiting for, Thunder adjusted his navigation and engines for atmospheric flight and quickly took off, heading for Taylor's last known location. After about 10 minutes of atmospheric flight, Thunder landed at a spaceport somewhere in North America, and set off to look for Taylor's ship. After asking several UE officers, he was directed to landing bay 4, where he saw a man he recognized as Taylor from the holovid.

"Hey! Taylor!" Thunder called out. Taylor, talking to two UE officers, turned around to see who was talking to him.

"Who are you?"

"I'm Thunder, an independent merchant who has something you might be interested in."

"And what is that?"

Thunder opened the leather pouch and let one of the blue crystals inside slide out into his hand, which he held up to Taylor. "Aligned Crystals. The operative component to the Zidagar Phased Beam. A Zidagar man gave me this one to keep it out of Azdgari hands. I understand you're in charge of UE weapons research, right? I want to give this to you. Study it, find out what it's made of, and how to grow more. With any luck you can develop some kind of beam weapon with it. You won't get another offer like this!"

"And what do you want in return?" Taylor asked.

"All I ask in return is your thanks and a single copy of whatever weapon you can derive from this crystal. Oh, and I'm also giving one crystal to your allies the Zachit as well. I'd appreciate it if you'd send a small UE fighter escort with me back to Outpost Zachit, to make sure the second crystal doesn't fall into enemy hands. So, what do you say?"

Thunder waits for Taylor to respond...

I say there is a chance for us to combine, for we have one common enemy.. The Igadzra Empire.. You hate them for some unknown reason, and we dislike them for their isolation and refusal to peace and trade. I see three evil races in this universe.. The Igadzra, who are secritive and treacherous, the Azdgari, who are bent on plundering and annilation, and the Voinians, who are determined to make the universe theirs.. I say we team up, and form an alliance against them... You are allies of the North Tip Renegades, I am allies of the Zidagar and UE... With these two forces combined, we could bring this realm of existance to peace!" ........

The message was recived by the renegades, who immediately boost up defense on Freeport, also alerting the Corocians to come and aid them if they wish. Freeport is now essentialy uncapturable.

Entropy, you need not worry about the UE capturing Freeport. It is in the heart of Renegade territory, and it is one of the most guarded Renegade bases. However, I will send you three Corocian Cruisers from the Corocian 1st Fleet guarding F-25.

This is true, and I only gave the UE just one crystal (though it was a large one, they could coneviably build several beam weapons from it.) But they can scan that crystal, study it, and find out how to synthesize more, or how to synthesize something comparable. The weapon they come up with may not be the same as a Phased Beamer, but if they can synthesize the crystals (or a close substitute of them), then they will be able to produce more weapons that they would with my extremely limited supply. It would take several posts to complete that scientific work, of course, and it would be up to the UE to do the research.

Continuation: (Titan- I'm assuming since you agreed to my offer that you honored my request to send a small fighter escort with me as far as Zachit, to ensure that the Zacha get the other crystal I have. If you don't agree with that part, then I'll edit my post accordingly.)

Thunder, having given the Aligned Crystal to the UE Weapons Research department, had taken off toward Outpost Zachit to deliver the other crystal to the Zacha. After a quick refueling stop at Saalia, the Esperanto and it's UE fighter escorts entered hyperspace, heading off into the expanse seperating UE and Miranu space. Turning his eyes downward from the viewscreen, Thunder pulled out the pouch containing the other Aligned Crystal. It sparkled in the bridge lighting, casting blue beams of light everywhere; on the control console, on Thunder's clothes, and one on the back of his tactical officer's head. It amazed Thunder how something as beautiful as that blue crystal could be made into a weapon of mass destruction. After admiring the crystal for a few seconds longer, Thunder slid it back into the leather pouch, and shoved the pouch back into his pocket.
