I have 7 freighter escorts (just saving up money by doing crassworm runs to get lots of upgrades for my UE destroyer) and I was using the tactic of releasing them, then disabling, then boarding and capturing them to prevent having to pay their fees. This worked out alright, then I realized I couldn't tell the ones I already captured from the ones I was paying! Is there a way to tell the difference?

Select your escorts using option-tab (assuming tab is your select key), then hail them. The comm dialogue box will tell you if your escorts are highered or just plain escorts.
