    • The Meowx plug for EV was the best. Also, it was distributed on disk (was it a MacAddict CD?). It is nice to skip the download and to have a permanent backup.

      Have you made any deals to distribute the new EVO plug on CD?

    • I yelled "COOL!" and "NOOOO!" at the same time. Cool ships, definately. I might even cancel my plugin "Overridden" because there's already (soon to be) one (a graphical replacement) and I'm busy.

      However, I noticed they were rendered in a highly angled view. :frown: NOOOOO! Don't you know that rendering angled ships messes up all the angles in EV/O? Like, weapons will fire at a different angle than your ship is looking like it is pointing at? Please PLEASE make a top-down version!

      BTW, it IS possible to make an angled ship without the messed-up angles, but it would look weird and take a lot of work...but I doubt you did that for MAGMA.

    • David? You didn't tell me about this, and I'm on your top secret Project Nebula development team must you be so enigmatic? I don't suppose I could add to it - but Project Nebula should outstrip Quantumire by a long shot, and I've still got plenty of work to do on it.

      Yup, should be; at least with plugs like F-25; TC plugs no - there isn't really a point to use it with a TC plug.

      The main purpose of MAMGA was to provide a 3D view. (Which is agreed to be cooler looking, but does have its problems (like you've pointed out) as it's not what the EVO engine was designed for) The fact that they're modeled a lot morer realistic is a (large) added bonus! That view is the standard Meowx angle, seen in plugs like Quantmire and F-25. I've re-rendered the necassary weapons so they look all right; and there is only minimal movement wierdness, it's only really noticable (and then only at certian angles) when hyperjumping. Sorry, hope this doesn't discourage you too much!

    • Ugh! It's that horrible, dark, speckly ship design format! Sorry, David, but I hate it. It's similar to what was used in Frozen Heart, and I hated that, too. I like the type in FB, EVES, and EVGE.

    • I HATE the new Voinian stuff, to dark, and has to much stuff hanging out. but the miranu stuff looks cool, you do need (ALOT) more lighting, i like the angled stuff, but i hope you make a version from the top to, because it would suck for plugins already out that have new ships that AREN'T angled.

      P.S. you REALLY should add more light, it'll bring out the detail in the ships and make 'em look less depressing.
      P.P.S. UE stuff HAS to be red! they don't have to be all red, but some red stripes or something, or maybe make them some kinda red marking like they're flag or something

    • All looks pretty good to me - if a little bit on the dark side, perhaps. It's nice to see that everything still looks like the original - while also looking all the better for having had someone with both real talent and a love for the game doing the designs. Hope the release of the original designs a while back helped (assuming you even referred to them, of course).

      Just one question: Speaking generally - what is it people have against the standard EV/EVO way of doing scanner graphics (ie. with the wireframe green cross-sections)? So many plugs put in these 3D colour shots which don't blend in with the rest of the sidebar and just make me think, 'Well, yes, I know what the ship looks like - can't I have a different perspective/some other information about it.' And also, 'Was this done by choice, or could the designer just not be bothered to work out how to do them lo-fi old style?' On the other hand I do like the addition to the scanner of subsidiary information about the ship's statistics, etc.

      I'm interested to know how many people prefer this style (ie. the 3D colour one in general, rather than this example) to the traditional version (whether EV's top down, or EVO's twin views).

    • Actually, I think the green displays are cooler, and I've never been able to work out why people want displays that (as you say) just look like stuff they already know.

      Actually, the 'speckly' design has been a convention of Science Fiction illustration since Chris Foss in the 70s, where the little points of light indicate portals and, thus, size. EV/Os 256 system colour limit causes some problems though.

      Zarquon was doing some amazing 'Alien' (as in Sigourney Weaver)-like designs some months back, but I never saw them make their way into a plugin.

      Any news Zarquon?

      My preference is for the old style.It looks more like one would get from a targetting system. e.g. low-light or thermal. Nor does Radar recognise colours.

    • Personally, I'm doing the color versions, but only because doing wireframe graphics in Ray Dream is not only time consuming, it also usually looks pretty damn lame. I'd rather wireframes, for the most part.

      Thanks for all the feedback. Do to the overwhelming response for wireframes, I'll re-do the target graphics in that style. Do you like the shiled/armor stats displayed? I think it's nice to have actual info on the ship displayed...
