    • The New Plug


      If you haven't heard yet, I dude5432 am making a massive plug that's gonna convert the EVO universe to a different universe set in 2501. NOTE: its not EVO set in 2501, its a new universe. I'm making all the systems verymuch like they are in real life, Solar system has 9 planets! Most systems you'll find have about 6 or seven planets and stations. I'm (and i'm getting help from others!!!) making about 30 ships.

      Its gonna be big!

      Any suggestions, offering of help, or comments, please!

      My guess is that you have never designed a plug, otherwise you would know that systems can only have 4 spöbs (-space objects-planets, stations etc..)

      Suggestion: Try not to be too megalomanical and just do a good, high quality plug... it doesn't need to be huge to be good....

      I'm guessing you are using EV-Edit too for this "little" project rolls eyes

    • Oh, shut up about EV-Edit. It works FINE. The reason you think it eats stuff up is probably because you haven't used it for so long you don't know what the updates have done. I'm making a plug too (slowly) and it hasn't done anything wrong. I have 12 ships defined and 2 fighter bays, and they all work fine when I try them out. Sheesh.

      With all due respect to ben spees, it has screwed up a lot of my plugs so far -- I have demoted it to creating systs... and sometimes it screws that up as well!! 🙂

      Yeah, it's great for EV, but otherwise...

    • YOU'RE USING EV-EDIT TO MAKE SYSTEMS!?!?!? thats one of the things it DOESN'T do, I use ResEdit for everything, but I think EV-Edit works fine for ships, outfits, personalities, junk, etc. hell the only thing it screws up are missions and systems. I'm making a plug for EV right now and I'm using resedit (and making many mistakes)

      here's a queston for every one who thinks EV-Edit is the buggiest editor ever made:

      What was the last verson of EV-Edit you actually used?

      3.3.2, and in my experience, it only mauls, hacks, and otherwise mutilates plugs if you try to make missions, everything else just needs a little tweaking in Resourcerer. 😉

    • It seems to work fine for systems... I've certainly put it to the test there 😉

      However, EV-Edit 3.2.2 pukes when I try and do Spobs. It also has a nasty habit of resetting resource fields if I don't have aliases of all my plugs components in it's data folder...

      The previous versions had some really nasty habits that often corrupted whole plugs though. I've not encountered this recently though.

    • Yeha everyone, i'm sorry abou thtat crap about nine steeler objects, i had just writen the message then i tried to do it and it stuffed up, if anyone can make a hack to program EV to have more than 4 SO's that would be well apprietiated.

      Oh and yeah EV-Edit does screw up systems, but its fine for everything else, and its easy thats why i'm using it. But anything it does, you CAN fix, eventually.

      Oh yea, it sure as hell did it. EV-Edit is a piece of junk.

      Why are you trying to make a plug-in so large, TWO total conversions when you have never done a plug before? Shesh.. you didn't even know about spöb limits.

      Quality is FAAAAAR better than quantity. How many ships have you done???

      i agree with everyone, two total conversions is way two much to handle, so i'm dropping the star wars crap.

      And yes i don't know all that much about the EV resources, thats why i'm getting help from others who do. And i'm hoping that finishing this plug will make me alot more experienced with the EV resources. You wanna help?

      By the way i have done about 18 govs, 16 systems, 12 ships, 30 outfits, 20 weapons, 10 dudes, and 1 fleet so progress is coming along alright for about a week.

    • dude, don't listen to them. You can have as many spobs as you want in a solar system. Just a little lateral thinking is required.

    • I know I'm gonna draw flames for this, but EV-edit works pretty well for me. Its not bad for making new ships, weapons, and outfits, and it makes placing systems rather straightforward (although it is very slow with that). Conversly you have ResEdit to use, where if you want to place a system you have to write in number values as if the galaxy where some kind of silly number grid.

      I think EV-Edit and ResEdit are both good for different things. EV-Edit is easy for the basic things, though for things like writing "disasters" and other nice things ResEdit rules.

    • Somebody asked about the last EV-Edit version I used..somewhere in the 1.'s...

      For all of you system map creators that are using it..tsk, tsk.. Pontus's EV Dev Map is the next best thing to butter. Its fast, damn easy to use, and does everything perfectly. The EVO Dev Map should be done soon aswell... Also for those of you complaining about ResEdit..its just as easy as anything else, especially with the Formula Calc..it saves alot of time when it comes time to beta as well..

    • EV-Edit, with a little mutzing around and fixing with ResEdit, is great for EVO. Meowx is currently not only working on Dark Realms, but one other project ("Nova"). It's secret and I can't tell you what it is, but it'll most likely be done before Dark Realms and is a total (and I mean TOTAL) conversion plug that will be great. I've created most everything in EV-Edit, and ResEdit for modifying things that EV-Edit can't. Granted, I still need to use ResEdit for fixing a few things that EV-Edit goofs up, but I can't imagine doing something like this completely in ResEdit. And by always working on a COPY of the plug, I have a backup to go to if the copy get screwed up (which has only happened once on Nova, and that wasn't even EV-Edit's fault.) Granted, I've used Shmelta-V for most of Quatumire: Return (which is now almost completely beta tested!); I'm hoping there's a good EVO mission writer - EV-Edit is a little wierd on that.

    • I suggest you change the name of "Nova" seeing how ATMOS is near completion of their TC plug called "Nova".
