Pretty much yes, because YES you were looking to make a personal insult. Because you're so determined to defend forge. And I have said that you can post here..I just don't respect you for doing so. You don't play this game...you're not interested in the community..so your comments here are just about being mean spirited. You've not disputed that..and you've also told me that I can't do anything about it. Yeppers..I know that. But it doesn't mean that you have any credibility here. • Not at all. He doesn't need defending as he doesn't care and if he did he'd do it himself. I just thought it was kind of silly to say something about that when he's not even a member of the community anymore. Sure, it's all in fun, but I think you still hold something against him and he's not even around anymore. I didn't look to make any insult at all.

I've posted here off and on for the better part of three years. I don't think there's any harm in that.

I've played Ferazel off and on, but you're right, I don't really play it all that often. I'm sorry you feel that puts me out of the loop, but my participation in this forum is about equal to the amount of time I spend playing the game. I post in many disparate forums (including Ares which I never play at all). If there was a generalized chat forum for Ferazel, I'd be there.

I think it's stupid to get up at me for posting here and telling me not to drop by. I darken your doorstep once in a while and I wouldn't even generally consider it "darkening." I've never detracted from anything here. I'm not looking for credibility with a post, I'm just posting.

As far as respect, I know I don't have much from you and don't expect any. It's no big deal, so please don't feel offended if I don't seek it. I'll continue to post here as and when I'm interested in making a post, as I've done in the past. I'm not concerned about your flying ****s over what I say, I'm just going to say it, just as you do. I'm sure you understand.

I'm sorry I brought up forge. It was a little inside joke, aimed mainly at myself, not anyone else.

    • Jeez, no one has anything to apologize for. You must realize that whenever Zelda and I interact this happens. It's sort of like shag carpet and shocking your pets.

As per forge, who cares? He doesn't and talking about him is a waste of time.

This would've happened regardless if the topic of conversation had been anything else, so please, don't feel you're responsible in any fashion.

As far as nice, this is the nicest conversation Zelda and I have had in a long time. 🙂

Hopefully the new version will fix it, and for those of us who are still running jaguar or 10.1 (Im running Jaguar) Its not a huge problem. It is too bad about Panther and ferazel, its probably the first thing you tried, but try increasing the memory allocation to a ridiculpusly large amount.

And Tripps..please feel free to post here. Even though you don't play Ferazel much. I'm sorry...can I say that I'm having my period or some other woman type thing that will make you run away in terror?

Maybe this hint will bring us back on topic.

I brought the recommended memory up to 45000 from 35000.

I then reniced the Classic Environment. This supposedly makes the Classic Environment the most important process running on your computer; it gets priority and more CPU time than the other programs.

To do this, start Classic, open up Activity Monitor, order the list by highest PID, and look for a process named (null) towards the top (it'll be further down if you started Classic earlier). (You can't search or filter the list for it.) If you can't find it, stop classic, then start classic again and look for Classic Startup in Activity Monitor while Classic is starting. The actual Classic Environment should have a process ID (pid) one greater than Classic Startup's pid. The process should be owned by you (your short username), have about 14 threads, and have an exorbitant amount of Virtual Memory (that's the way it is on my computer). Now that you've found out the pid for the Classic Environment (null), open up Terminal and type "sudo renice -20 -p PID" without the quotes, and replacing PID with the process ID for the Classic Environment. You'll need to type in an administrator password.

Now try playing Ferazel's Wand. Unfortunately, it did not have the effect I hoped it would; I noticed a small speed increase, but it was still unplayable on my 400mhz G3. Hopefully this tip will work better for some of you.

After you're done, you may want to type "sudo renice 0 -p PID" into Terminal to bring Classic's priority back to normal. Alternatively, you can quit Classic; next time you launch it, it'll be slow as normal again.

Just wondering, because it seems to me that all the posts actually related to the topic are being lost among all the other stuff; it took me a while to find my previous post here because there was so much irrelevant stuff around it.

PCheese...you have a very good point. I will not accept that the Ferazel boards are dead...but sometimes...people in the community need to express other things. That's what helps build the community. That being said, don't think your contributions to this board are lost or are not important. They so totally are. We need you!! Please keep posting and please keep us focused on the game.

As I posted before, banter is accepted here. Even if it's between two moderators. We don't have to go to the War Room because it had to do with these boards. Interesting how you think you can put us down for that and then go ahead and make your own irrelevant posts As you said, you don't post here. So your comments have just as little revelance as you accuse others for having. Watch it. I'm losing patience. I dislike trolls. This wasn't a moderator power play. It was two people disagreeing. And as Tripps said, we resolved it. Maybe not ideally...but it's pretty much over right now. We don't need you to try and add more fuel to the fire.

    • Good news!

The 10.3.3 update seems to make FW a bit faster in Classic, so try it again after you've updated. I managed to get FW almost playable (barely any skips when running around on land) by doing this:

      • Use Mac OS X 10.3.3

      • Renice the Classic Environment to -20 (see above)

      • Set Graphics Quality to Reduced (I guess you could go line-skipped but I'm not sure it'll boost performance that much, I forgot to try it)

      • Set Effects to Reduced

      • Turn Sound Effects and Music off

      • Uncheck the Allow Background Tasks box

      • Check the Reduce Frame Rate box

      • Unplug USB devices you don't need

      • Set Ferazel's Wand's recommended memory to 45000

      • Quit all applications except Ferazel's Wand (Classic) and the Finder

I was playing a special level with Storm Valley-like rain and lightning, but it was working pretty well on land. That's the key: once you hit the water, the game starts skipping like crazy. It's also like that when there's other effects such as Ferazel getting hit by a shield goblin. Maybe it would work better in simpler levels with less complex backgrounds and effects.

I have a Wacom Tablet plugged into my computer through USB, and when I unplugged it , FW sped up a noticeable amount. Those drivers take waaay too much CPU. Lesson: even hardware will slow down FW, get rid of anything you don't need.

Hopefully these changes will allow you lucky people with fast computers to be able to use Ferazel's Wand through Classic again. I think I'll stick to restarting in Mac OS 9 for now though (I like good-looking graphics).
