    • [ANN] "Basic Nothingness" for Ferazel's Wand Released

Ah, you laughed at me! You thought it was vaporware, did you not? Behold!

After months of fiddling around with an undocumented MASCOT editor, I've produced something sane enough to be played acceptably. Enter "Basic Nothingness".

Does it have a plot? Maybe. It's open to interpretation. Explore.

I wanted to get this out as soon as possible, so a) there are currently only two playable levels, and πŸ†’ there is no documentation. I will add more levels (the next one is "Indecision Eradicator 2000"!), and documentation is being written. Furthermore, I guarantee nothing in this world file. I cannot guarantee that it will work on your copy of FW (although it should), and I cannot guarantee that a bug causes you to die by a giant cheesecake landing on your character.

Bug fixes will be early and often. The world is, for the most part, tested in full by me. Still, things slip past. Please let me know if something is at fault. I need to know.

      Have fun!

    • Yay, I was prisoner #3 πŸ™‚

Anyway, going to try the world right now.

    • Ok, well...I'm impressed. Those were some nice levels.

Here are my totals for the first run:

      (url="http://"http://members.home.com/jmln/stuff/level1.gif")Level 1(/url)
      (url="http://"http://members.home.com/jmln/stuff/level2.gif")Level 2(/url)

A few notes: in the first level, I would have had 100% all, but one of the spiders ran off the side of the screen in the bottom left πŸ™‚ Also, as you can see, I haven't gone through much of level 2 yet πŸ˜› I'll take another crack at it right away.

      Good job spamguy!

    • Well, I'm back!

      (url="http://"http://members.home.com/jmln/stuff/level1.1.gif")Level 1, attempt 2(/url)
      (url="http://"http://members.home.com/jmln/stuff/level2.1.gif")Level 2, attempt 2(/url)

I think the pictures speak for themselves πŸ™‚ By the way, nice job hiding that last secret spamguy. I found it by accident (but I'm not saying how, just yet) What's more, just as I was going back to find the rest of the secrets, I realized I hadn't saved once! So I got the pleasure of running through the levels once more (that's why it took so long to post again...hehe)

I did encounter one bug: with the pig salesman (funny), the dialog came up blank, SysBeep() ran thrice (it beeped three times :D), it sat there for about 5 seconds, and then I was allowed to go on my merry way. Nothing major, just thought you'd like to know

Can't wait for the next level!

    • Ah, curse that SysBeep(). It's been plaguing me with conversations forever. You would have seen another conversation in there if it weren't for that.

But did you see the entire conversation? That wasn't a pig salesman πŸ™‚

Nope, I didn't see any of it. Like I said, the "dialog" came up blank, stayed there for about 5 seconds (locking up the game in the process) and then just went away.

It wasn't? Hmmm, what did that sign just before him say? I can't remember πŸ˜›

    • It involved pigs, but it wasn't a pig salesman. The only conversation in there, and it locked up! Grrr...I'll work on it then.

The link was provided on the first post. Find where my page mentions my world file, and go there.

    • Cool, Spamguy! I just completed both levels. Can't wait for the next one! πŸ™‚ BTW, the same thing with the dialog happened to me too.

      ------------------

    • I'm going to look really STUPID here, but that's nothing new!

I downloaded the new levels (I thought) but when I tried to get to them I just had the usual game startup with the between level indicator (when I finished the first level) showing "ferazel's house" and "my house" levels, but I couldn't get to them. What am I supposed to do to find these new cool levels?

(Sorry if this is really obvious to everyone but me...)
      TIA

Now I'm wondering why everyone sees this between level indicator and I don't. I am so very confused.

You are not missing any levels. There are only two levels, although I will be adding on (and in fact I am working on Indecision Eradicator 2001 right now; I think you'll like it :D). Currently the first three are underground. The third you cannot get to for stability reasons, but it's there. Ashamedly, I can't get FW to get to the third level, either. Grrr.

Well, MonsterLady, you aren't the only one. The exact same things happened to me. I even erased everything and downloaded again. Woe is us....I want to play....WAAAAH! Help Spamguy. I always think it's something I have done that is really stupid. Say it isn't so. Perplexed in the Land of Enchantment....Frosty

    • I have had reports of people not knowing how to install the file. I don't blame them; I never told you. So:

      1. DL the file. (Done, hopefully)
      2. Move the original Ferazel world file elsewhere.
      3. Replace that with Basic Nothingness. It should be named "Ferazel's Wand World Data" so FW recognizes it.
      4. Start a new game.

Hope this helps! Good luck πŸ™‚

    • Coolness!

My main computer is in the shop, and this one doesn't play FW very well, so I can't try it out yet. But, I'm downloading it, and I want to start playing.

    • Thanks Spamguy - followed your directions and - voilΔΊ - there it was! Sure can't complain that there aren't enough save spots.

Now... Anyone care to share with me how I get to the transporter "doorway" in the second level? Seem to be stuck there - have tried all angles (I think), but can't get to it to transport to down to where I see someone waiting. HELP!

What a way to spend Thanksgiving.

      --

Later on - Never mind - Wandered around aimlessly throwing fireseeds at walls. Just before I used up all my fireseeds finally found it. Finished both levels 100% on all.
      Thanks for the diversion, Spamguy.
