    • Alien mission need help (sorry)

I tried search to answer my question but I couldn't come up with anything very helpful. It's my first time through the game and I'm on a rebel mission in which I am supposed to destroy an alien ship and it's fighter escorts. How am I supposed to destroy this thing? If I didn't run an eventually jump to another system right away, the fighters destroy me. Should I buy a bunch of escorts to do it for me? Should I switch ships? I am using a stupid clipper and have about 1.85 million credits, Another two or three hundred thousands credits and I can get a Corvette. Also, I don't want to use the forklift. I don't even know what it is, but based on what I have read it is in some way a cheat. If I wanted to cheat to save time I would have downloaded one of the money cheats rather then spending so much time playing the game. So can anyone give me some help?

    • Yeah, it's much easier if you have a better ship though. First, don't bother with the fighters, they are a real pain to kill, as their recharge is so fast. If you have the tractor beam it helps a lot, (the greater the acceleration of your ship, the more effective the tractor beam is). So if you have a big slow ship, the tractor beam will help a little, but the alien cruiser can still squirm and shoot at you. Smaller faster ships, such as a clipper might have a better chance, assuming you have enough primary weapons. You just need to hold the thing still, and keep firing at it, and avoid its beam if it can turn.

Also, don't worry too much about the search thing, there is always someone around willing to answer your questions, the search thing is just pushed by a lot of ignorant "members" who think they are too good to answer the same question repeatedly.

      Good Luck.

    • Cliper? Ow! Immediately switch to that Corvette. A Kestrel works too, but most prefer the Corvette because of its better speed. The two Rebel Cruiser escorts you got should keep the fighters busy, but if they dont, you need to just to evade them. You can hire escorts, but the good ones are as expensive as heck. Corvettes cost 200,000 credits just to hire and Kestrels 1 million! All speed and armor upgrades recommended. Stay on its back to not get hit by its Heavy Fusion Beam gun. It hurts. 1 hit in a Kestrel= 25% shields lost.

Meh- beaten by Chamrin. I still hope I was some help. Chamrin brings up several good points, like using the Tractor Beam. Also, good that you think that you dont need to worry too much about search. Telling to search annoys me, so I always tell the answer instead.

    • Where can I get at tractor beam? Can I do it without doing any Confederation missions?

You get in in Rebel string. You need to do the Astrodyne Outpost missions. You get in Astrodyne Outpost V (which is a real pain to complete, I might add...).

    • And how how do I "not bother with the fighters"? Is there some tactic I can use to avoid them? Just a few hits from them and I'm dead (well, maybe not when I get my corvette).

Try to get the rebel cruisers that are escorting you to engage the fighters, then they keep each other busy as neither can kill each other.

    • What if, say, those cruisers were destroyed a long time ago? How do you do that, anyway? I'm still kind of an EV newb so I don't know fighter/escort controls very well. Took my forever just to read the manual to discover how to fire them. Stupid things drained away my money until I "accidently" got into large battles. Anyway, would there be a good escort I can hire for a reasonable price? Defenders? Lightnings? I can get some money and get my Corvette and then some more money. Kestrals and Corvettes are out of the question for escorts at this point time. Way too expensive.

      ------------------

    • Also, you don't have to destroy the fighters (but you can if you want to). All that the mission requires is that you destroy the Alien Cruiser. Good Luck!

    • Just speed up a Kestrel and use the rest of the space for weapons and shields. Torps are pretty good to use on an alien. Have fun.

Here is a guide to all Rebel missions in EV: (url="http://"http://www.planan.com/ev/rebel.html")http://www.planan.com/ev/rebel.html(/url)

Destroyer E: Torpedos dont cause more than marginal damage on its shields, because it has so insanely much of them. 0.5%, I read somewhere. Get as much primary weapons as possible instead.

    • Missles do 1% damage on an alien, the torpedos do more. Primarys are good though.

    • In the site it said their was a mission before that requires you to rescue civilians from a system. Do I have to do that one first?

      ------------------

    • I have my corvette now. It's pretty strong. It has 5 (max) proton cannons; 2 (max) proton turrets; all of the enhancements, 2 in the weapon space one; a ramscoop; the scanner upgrades; a missle jammer; the 2nd armor type (forgot the name); 4 (max) of the shield increaser things (forgot name, they increase shield by 15); the other shield thing (forgot name, increase shield regeneration rate); an afterburner; the cloaking device; and a missile launcher with 27 torpedoes, which can be switched to something else, based on the advice I recieve. The one downside is that because of the enhancements, I now only have 30 tons of cargo space. I took out a Kestrel, it's fighters, and a few pirate Argosys and Clippers in one system without landing with it. I still need those other questions answered and any advice on changes to make with the armament choices.

    • Now I have another mission that I am having trouble with. Since for some reason I have yet to recieve the astrodyne missions (bad luck, I guess) so I have been doing Artemis Group and UGE missions. I am now on the mission in which you are required to destroy 10 Kestrels. What should I do for this mission? Hire Corvette escorts? I have about 2 million credits again now so I guess I could afford to. Although more than just a few would be pointless (mission only worth 500,000).

      ------------------

    • Do you have a tractor beam? If you don't, get it. You can hold the Aliens with it and use the primarys to knock him out. Have fun. 😉

No, that is just a repeating mission from the Mission Computer. As for the T.A.G- Youre it mission (thats the name of the mission), you can hire Corvettes if you want to. Theyre good, but cant help against the might of Torpedoes and Lightnings. Heck, they would go down after some Missiles. You have 2 UGE Corvette/Kestels to help you, altough they dont help much. You should really get that Tractor Beam, because it makes the Lighnings you face unable to move and you can pummel them with primary weapons at will. When the Lightnings are down, select one of the Kestels, and pummel it with Torpedoes. The Kestrel is best for this, because it can hold so much weapons. You might even be able to get Missiles to wipe the fighters at the same time as Torpedoes, since Missiles also work against them. If you just cant do it, wait until you have done the Alien mission and buy a Rebel Cruiser. I have tried, and just its primary weapons are enough to kill a Kestrel.

    • Thanks for all your help. I destroyed the alien ship after finishing the astrodyne outpost missions (tractor beam is pretty useful), got a Rebel Cruiser and destroyed the ten Kestrel pirates and their Lightnings. My only question left is what should I use as a secondary weapon? The Mass Driver seems pretty weak (or at least incredibly slow), Missiles hit asteriods in half the systems, Torpedos take forever to it, if they do, and Heavy Rockets are more difficult to use. I have yet to try Gravitic Space Bombs. Are they any good? I could get more fighters (have four Mantas + bay and 2 Lighnings + bay) but I would still have space for at least one secondary weapon and its ammuntion. So, any advice on what I should get?

I wouldn't reccomend them as a normal secondary choice, but since you probably have a lot of money or at least can get a lot in short amount of time by plundering, I would go for space bombs. They are my personal favorite, and do a lot of damage. With a Rebel Cruiser you won't have to worry as much about being killed or severely damaged in the blast. They're pretty tricky to get a direct hit on something, but the things sure are fun for me. Other than missiles and the space bombs, I rarely even use secondary weapons unless I'm trying something new out.
