    • Argosy.vs.Rapier


      I just notice something when went to a shipyard the rapier was around 1mil$ and the argosy was 775000$
      the argosy has better wepons and cargo space and sheilds&armor; and more crew and guns
      and the only thing better about the rapier is its speed and turn and accel!
      (i think i got all the facts right)

      no, the rapier has far superior weapons to an Argosy. It has 4 laser cannons, a rear laser turret, torpedoes and heavy rockets compared with the Argosy's two laser cannons.

      Of course you could upgrade the Argosy's weapons so that they're better than the rapiers, but you'll end up paying more than 1.2 million for it.

    • The Rapier has more weapons space (a moot point when mass expansions are taken into account), its faster, its got a much better shield recharge rate, and its a smaller target.

    • What I normally do is get a Rabier buy torperdos, then do some pirateing till i can buy a Kestrel.

    • I've been known to take out any ship I come against in a Rapier, so, most definitely a Rapier is far superior.

      you can very easily capture a rapier if you get a courier (200k) and weapons enough to disable one. Then disable one (you could use a hired escort, or the pirate's) and you have 25 to 30% capture odds on it, 3 or 4 tries and you have a rapier and you spent under 300k on it. You can try hundreds of times and you wont get an agrossy. Thats one of my biggest gripes with the rapier: 2 crew. (the courier has 10 crew which is why captureing one is so easy.)

      I said that in this thread...people didn't seem to wanna agree with me though...I find it works great, glad to see someone else do it. You can do the same thing with a lightining as well, if that floats your boat better.

      My preference is to make my attempts at Lethe Prime, both ships are always around there;)

      I am telling the truth. I figured out the power of the Rapier while I was playing the Arena Plugin. I was able to take out 3 Fed Cruisers and their fighters with my Rapier. I sold everything on the ship and loaded it up with one torpedo launcher and the rest with torpedos. Simply circle around the cruisers, close enough for them to fire their secondary weapons but not their primary weapons. Keep doing this, while launching torpedos until they run out of ammo, then do strafing runs with torpedos. It may not be the fastest battle method, but it's a good method.

      As for you doubting my abilities... I've been playing EV for 7 years or so. The more you play the better you get, see :p.

    • Whilst a rapier is probably a better overall ship, I like the warship feel of the Argosy (although it has piss all sheilds). I managed to fun through a Confed Frigate with just primaries + javeiln rockets and I won (two proton turrets+3 laser cannons+2 javelin launchers = some serious firepower).

      In Nova I prefer a more primary weapon strategy. Arm myself with a valk or Starbridge and full primary weapons. In EV, though, I find that I prefer secondary weapons. This is somewhat odd as in Nova most of the secondary weapons don't weigh anything (asude from the launcher).

    • I see that somebody else has realized the power of the Rapier if it is properly upgraded. Excellent, Jericon.

      As for the topic, I'll just say that my Rapier eats Argosies for lunch, along with a healthy side of Kestrels, and washes it all down with some Confederate Crusiers.

      What would be proper upgrading? Tritanium, Shield Booster, and Torps? I believe tht Argosies can be easily beaten, but how did you beat a Kestrel so you could capture it? The Kestrel is easy, but the Lightnings are deadly with their speed and Missiles. Did you get speed upgrades so you just dodge them, separate the two, and just pound Lasers? Confed Cruisers... thats insane! Even if the ship is slower than flowing molasses, the sheer power of 14 Torpedoes and 800 shields can bring you down if you are not superskilled. The four Patrol Ships are weak, but annoying harassers.

      If I remember correctly, a Confed cruiser won't launch torps at you (I could be wrong).

      Even if he does, your small ship, along with its agility, can avoid them no problem. Espeicially if aided by the engine enhancements and an afterburner.

    • Kestrels on their own are pretty easy to destroy when the AI is controlling them. Just fire off a few missiles to waste the lightnings, run rings around it until it runs out of missiles and torps, and then just do runs at it. It's two proton turrets won't be able to keep up, whilst you hammer away at it's sheilds with lasers and javelins.
