    • Has anyone here in EV land made some kind of tribute to MacAddict, for getting so many of us onto this band wagon? I myself can't remember where I got into this thing very well... it was either some CD full of games my dad was backing up, or straight off the internet with a little 14.4, but I can't think how I would have found it there in the first place.

I do remember sitting for hours at a time, surfing the old site for plug-ins and waiting painfully for them to come to me.

    • Dang, I seem to be the only one who got it off of a SOMC cd in 99. I didn't start playing until this June. I was pretty stupid, ne?

    • Yes, I can relate to most of you, though I despise MacWorld. Evil commies! ๐Ÿ˜‰

I got EV of a MacAddictย™ (Who-hoo!) Disc , and was hooked after I figured out that I could buy new ships. I was 19 at the time... Sniff, sniff. This brings back memories of times long gone by... I WANNA GO BACK TO 7th GRADE! WAAAA! But in all fairness, EV would have had less "initial fans" had MacAddictย™ not put it on the Disc in '96.

BTW- I noticed that last months Disk had EV on it too, thought it was rated a "Possible hit" while Ares was "must have." This is the only time I wanted to do harm to an 'Addict staff member, and this episode made up for the ones I'd missed over the years. ๐Ÿ™‚

As for those who don't play EV as much anymore- I can definitly relate to you as well. EV has touched, me, in every place, and I love tweaking with her gears.
To me, Escape Velocity is almost immortal- it will be cherished forever within the walls of my 40gig Harddrive, to be eternaly revered with awe. I am unfit to touch its proggaming, I use copies and other such replaceables instead. EV will remain in my heart for all time, it is the measuring stool for all other games: Past, present, or future. Nothing has neared it's sanctity, it's absolute power. It will be played 500 years from now, and I'm proud to own it, $20 shareware nonwithstanding.

    • I don't remember where I got EV first, but I remember looking at all the controls and decided not to play. ๐Ÿ™‚ Later (half-year, year, 2 years) I decided to play it, so I printed out the controls... and loved it!

    • Yeah, I did the exact same thing. I waited a year and a half.

      You were 19 in 7th grade? ๐Ÿ˜‰

The first time I played it, I didn't know any of the controls... I hovered above Levo pushing random buttons until pirates killed me. After I figured out how to land and hyper-jump, I began thnking that the green arrows that show up on the map when considering a mission showed where friendly ships were, and the red arrows that showed up after accepting a mission were sytems where enemy ships were. Then, once, I dared enter a red-arrow system, landed quickly to get away from the enemy ship I thought was there, and saw that I had completed a mission. Then I realized what the arrows meant... ๐Ÿ˜›

    • lol. Good one EVula. I just checked back through my old disks and found EV 1.00 in one of them, early 96. Wish I'd have found it then....

    • I remember stumbling onto it off a website; pre-1999. I played and cheated, quickly. I may have even deleted it. Then I went I became a freshmen and met my first die-hard Mac friend. He told me I had to download EV. I did and my life was changed forever. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have been playing ever since. And every time I step into the Enturius II I am filed with pride. Yippee for EV!

And no, I just think 7th was the best grade.

    • MacAddict. 1997.

Thought it was another stargazing game, so I played "Space Cab" for a while.

    • In fact, I too, installed EV from a MacAddict CD in 1996. I musta been the first version. I played it a while and it seemed cool. But for me it was hard. I didn't know about commodity trading or trade routes. it took HOURS and HOURS to get enough cash just for an argosy. I remember all those vain attempts of doing the astex mission in a courier (yikes!) anyway. It's been quite a while since I first played the game.
