And anyway, spl_cadet, what you posted was a single-post battle. Even if you could exlplain the sudden apperence of 20 kestrels, you still couldn't just blow us all up, according to the short list of rules for this webstory.

As Jimbob was finishing up a shake, a strange man walked up to him, and said, "I have been orded to escort you through your trade routes in NGC-1776, with my fighter hawk."
Not beleiving this, Jimbob quickly asked "By whom?"
The man replied "General Rak of the 5th Sol Defense Fleet."
Jimbob was thrilled by this news. He never imagined having an escort! He also learned that Liberty Station was being fortified, and a large group of "Sledge" Freighters were heading out to nearby systems for supplies. Wanting to help, he dumped hi shuttle for a Medium Freighter, and took off for Agena.

It's all fun and games until the cat knocks the Nitroglicerine over.
Starkiller yawned. The last few days had been rather tiring. The conferences being held in Athens often lasted well past midnight, and he was behind on his sleep. At least something was getting done. Nearly all the planets had some sort of representation, and after a hurried conversation with Rak, Starkiller had been chosen to represent Liberty Station. The delegates had already signed a temporary "Alliance of all civilized Human worlds", intended to present a united front against this still mysterious threat. There was still some minor tweaking going on with the various elements of the alliance, but attention had already been turning to talks of forming a united human government. Starkiller noticed that many systems seemed to favor such a setup, including most of the core, and the frightened planets to the south. A few seemed to be against it, though not entirely. While all were agreed on the alliance, representatives from some systems, most noticeably the Clotho and Satori systems, were leaning towards individual planetary rule. Personally, Starkiller liked the idea of a united human government. He felt that some day, they would face an enemy that would be intent on obliterating humankind, and he thought that humans should be prepared to have a united front against them.

Because of previous treaties and negotiations, it was decided that the SDF would become the basis of the galaxy wide military. Hence, as second in command, I have a lot of power.

A jumpgate lay dormant deep in the Trugati Asteroid Belt. It suddenly began to glow, until suddenly a small red blob zoomed out. It was like no other ship ever seen before. A pirate flew into the system. The red ship easily flew several circles around the lone Corvette, the pirate frantically trying to target the alien ship. Suddenly, three drones were launched at the Corvette, smashing the pirate's hull. The alien scout followed up with a front-mounted fusion beam, utterly destroying the Corvette. The scout then returned through the jumpgate, and the system was quiet again.

Ramon Zaff, a young city boy currently residing on Earth had been getting restless with the constant boredom of the everyday routine in his family's small apartment. He was a young man, restless and in need of adventure or somesuch, and had just reached the level of maturity which legally allowed him to take matters into his own hands.
He'd lacked direction for his personal outlet of youthful vigor, but what with the current crisis overtaking the face of space faring humanity, he'd decided on his path. To enlist with the space forces of humanity, or namely, that of Sol. Preferrably the fifth fleet seeing as how it seemed to be the one with the most opportunity for experience, and the most exiting way to "get out and see the galaxy"
The next day Ramon was in the Naval recruitment office, asking for a spot in the accelerated officers training course which had recently been put into effect. In a short few months he would be a full officer, in the meanwhile he would get his training on the job, serving aboard some space faring warship amongst the fleet.

It had been a long day. Jimbob started off to Agena a week ago, but had been having trouble with comm and pirates, and couldn't return to Liberty Sation for until today.
He and his escort jumped into NGC-1776, to find a newly renovated Liberty Station. It was much nicer than he thought it would be. But with the 5th Sol Defense Fleet, what else could you expect other than the best? He docked at the trader end of the dock, and dropped off his supplies, and entered. The inside looked much better than the older L.S.
He walked up to the renovated mission computer to see what else he could do to help.
