    • New Ship Survey

There's been too many debates about Corvette vs. Kestral, Rapier vs. Lightning, and Cruiser vs. Cruiser. Well, how about this: Clipper vs. Courier. And you base your opinion on an A.I. ship or human piloted and upgraded.

      I vote courier.

May those who love us, love us. And those who don't love us, may God turn their hearts. And if he doesn't turn their hearts, may he turn their ankles, so we'll know them by their limping.

    • i usually dont use either of them, but id have to say clipper because it looks cooler.

    • I say courier, because with a few mass upgrades, sheild enhancers, and missles, it's better than the clipper in no time.

      ------------------
It's all fun and games until the cat knocks the Nitroglicerine over.

    • Courier - you can make more money with it. That's the issue when you are playing with low-end ships.

    • I don't think I have ever played with courier as my ship. I usually get a shuttle and run the Pollux --> Procyon route with escorts until I can get a corvette or kestrel. But I recently started in on playing magma and went from shuttle to Clipper. Well, the clipper is terrible. It can hardly do anything, combat wise. And it's better than the courier, stat wise. So I guess my vote goes with Clipper.

    • Courier.

The clipper is ugly, costs a lot, lacks the abilities I expect out of a ship like that, and I'm just plain sick of 'em.

Uh, that word? You spelled it wrong. Yeah, that one right there, next to the period. And you're missing an apostrophe in the word "its".

    • Clipper. Because I'm too lazy to explain. Cool I geuss.

    • Clipper. It's the first ship that I actually use to fight. I can take out argosies and down with it. I can't do that in a courier.

      EV Data Files:
Aerostar Space Industries' assembly lines are mainly devoted to producing starship subassemblies for other manufacturers, but their C-35 Star Clipper Mk. IV is their most widely-recognized product. This sleek, delta-winged ship is a combination courier vessel and light warship, and excels in both roles. Its offensive and defensive capabilities are quite good for a ship of its size, and it has ample room for expansion that allows it to be turned into either a top-flight cargo hauler or an outstanding heavy fighter.
      </quote>
As the data file reads, can be turned into an outstanding heavy fighter. Proton Weapons and torpedos can take you far with this little ship. Corvette's beware.

    • I've rarely used either of these ships. If I really have no choice but to decide between the two, however, it depends on where I do the majority of my missions. If I'm hanging around the core worlds, I take the Courier. If I do missions based where there is small pirate activity, I take the Clipper.

But as for the big picture, I don't like either of them... Slow, and very limited performance.

    • Gads, it's been ~years~ since I flew a Clipper, and I think I flew a Courier once a while back just to see what it was like. The bottom line is, they both suck. But forced to choose... I would have to say Clipper, solely on the basis of it being able to carry 2 more guns. Other than that, they pretty much suck equally. You can't put any worthwhile primaries on a Courier, at least you can get 4 Lasers on the Clipper.

    • Well said, Macavenger.

We need some polls that are more... erm, open-ended. I would cite a few possible examples, but every poll imaginable seems to have taken place on this board more times than most of us would like to remember.

    • Courier. It makes a good freighter; the Clipper is of no use except as a heavy fighter, and I don't fly fighters.

    • Clipper. The courier can carry more, but is no good for anything but cargo. Clippers are very bad themselves(I prefer defenders), but at least you can upgrade them to be pretty good.

      ------------------
You would have to be ignorant, derranged, demented, or dead to turn down the oppurtunity to fly an Azdara.

    • Let me see here. A courier holds much more cargo then a clipper, yet a clipper could become a top fighting machine of its class in short order. Figure in for range, speed, and power and how reckless one is, it would be either a simple or hard choice.

As for me I would take a clipper over a courier because it was a ship I knew well once. Yet given the chance and how much I needed to get out of the shuttle craft, I would take the courier right away for its cargo and range. Besides, not all the basics about EV is to go blasting everything to pieces.

Well said. I sometimes get a clipper, then raid argosies in Palshife for cash+cargo. I have my hands on a nice little corvette in no time. 🙂

    • Yech, what a choice. I always go Shuttle>Scoutship>Corvette>Kestrel>(whatever), eschewing these two. The courier has too little weapons space, and the clipper has awful acceleration, making them both a lot less effective in my hands than a well-upgraded scoutship, which should cost about the same.

But if I have to choose, Courier. At least it has a turretspace.

The clipper has turretspace too. The same amount actually.

But sticking with the cannons is a good idea. One whole turret slot won't get you anywhere...

    • To me, the upgrade ladder goes:
      shuttle
      courrier
      argosy
      corvette
      kestrel

I always liked the courrier for some reason.
