If I'm not mistaken, a fighter requires a bay. And last time I checked, EV had no Rapier Bay (then again, it didn't have a Defender Bay either!), so are you referring to a plugin? Or what?

It has quite a bit of shielding, awesome firepower, very good manueverability, slick looks, and it is the best "player" ship.

Well, as your personal ship, it's Rapier all the way. It's heavily shielded, faster than a Corvette, and can be armed to the teeth. It's useful for taking out larger craft while still being able to outrun smaller ones.
However, the AI Lightning will beat an AI Rapier. The Lightning is a dogfighter, while the Rapier is specially designed to attack larger ships. Of course when piloted by the player this doesn't matter, since you can arm it with whatever you like, and engine upgrades give you superiority when it comes to speed and maneuverability.

Heh, I think the Lightning is better (gasp!). The Rapier is decked out, but the Lightning can be made just as combat-capable in the hands of the player. Add its superior speed to the mix, and IMHO you have a better ship. Basically the same combat ability with greater all-around manueverability. The Rapier is still a great ship, but I give the Lightning a slight edge. To me, speed > power.
Edit note: All that said, the Rapier is definitely one of the coolest-looking ships in EV.
This topic actually brings back memories, because some time ago I started a topic trying to compare the Lightning & Rapier. I wonder what I and everyone thought in that one......

Defender!
I cannot stand either the Rapier or the Lightning. By process of elimination my vote goes to the mighty(?) Defender. Hey! At least it's fast.... (Someday I'm gonna start a new Pilot and see just how far his Defender will get him.)
Truthfully, I go from Scoutship to Corvette specifically because the R & L are a waste of time, credits and energy.
