    • My preference- Kestrel

I has stronger shields, more primary space, and more space in general. Its manueverability isn't bad, and I don't care about price.

      Outfitted-
      -3 proton turrets
-2 Torp launchers + Max amount of torps I can carry
      -Manueverability upgrades
      -Missile Jammer
      -IFF and Mass scanners
-Decoy flare launcher + 50 decoy flares
      -2 Javelin Pods + 999 Javelin Rockets
      -1 Shield Recharge upgrade
      -Tractor Beam πŸ˜„
      -Cloaking Device πŸ˜„

      • No particle beam πŸ˜› confeds

    • Corvette is as good as the Kestrel, maybe better overall, and costs one-quarter the price. Way better. Outfits depend on my mood.

    • Kestrel in my opinion. Outfits: as many primary weapons as I can fit on. No secondaries. All the shield and armor upgrades along with speed, thrust, and manueverability upgrades. My style of play is to outgun the enemy while adding a few advanced tactics. The corvette doesn't have enough weapons to satisfy that.

    • I prefer the Kestrel. It works better than the corvette against big ships, and is agile enough to run and dodge if it has to. The fighters reliably swat everything short of a corvette, saving me the bother. I rarely fly the kestrel though due to its price-- by the time I can afford it, I can also buy cruisers.

      ------------------

    • I say Corvette. Why? Anything I can't take out in a Corvette, I can run from without a problem. The Kestrel's just too slow for that.

    • Kestrel all the way, because of reasons. πŸ˜‰

    • The Kestrel is obviously more powerful, but the corvette is far more economical. For that reason it is far more accessible to the player, and personally I'd prefer working up 2.5 mil for a Corvette than trading commodities and running missions for along time in order to get the 10 million needed for the Kestrel. The only time when that kind of money is given to the player easily is at the end of the Alien Cruiser mission, and at that point why bother with a Kestrel when you can get a Gov warship?

In terms of power and fighting ability, the Kestrel is better. But the Corvette is a lot more useful to the player due to its impressive performance at a low price.

    • Corvette. No annoying bays to skip in cycling through your secondaries, no fighters you don't want to launch because you fear losing them, speed, manouverability

      Who needs signatures?

    • Corvette. It's cheaper, faster, better...

I usually outfit it with two proton turrets and five cannons, 2 Javelin Launchers and 999 Javelins, IFF Decoder, Density Scanner, Missile Jammer, and the special Rebel upgrades.

      ------------------
Cougars and Siege Carriers are a very good combination for the Pirates.

    • I don't know which, I've currently got a Courier and I haven't gotten anything better. But my friend who is really good at EV said that Corvettes rule. πŸ™‚

"Harmless" combat rating? Blah, I can easily take out unarmed disabled ships sometimes.

Don't worry about losing kestrel lightnings. If you lose one, then you can disable and capture a pirate lightning. It will go into your bay. You can sell the captured lightning for a million credits and do this over (and over) again.

On speed: do you really need to outrun Defenders? The upgraded kestrel is faster than a lightning, which is sufficient for my needs.

    • I'd have to go with the Kestrel. Great weapons with loads weapon and cargo space. Includes lightnings wich are nice for destroying small ships that you just don't want to waste your time on. Plus the Corvette sucks. I blow them up quite simply in pirate systems.

      I wonder...

    • What? How can you say that! The Corvette is almost the best ship in the game!
(I like the Neutronic Kestrel, The standard is nice but I like the Neutronic version more).

Yes, I want to be a moderator. How much does it cost?
You can find people, and idiots, and idiot people, but why can't you find people idiot?

Still the Lightning bay fills up a secondary slot, making it even more of a hassle if you have more than two other secondary weapons (I usually rely on Heavy Rockets and/or Javelins). BTW: if you sell a Lightning, you won't get the full million.

    • The corvette is vastly better; in my estimation the only ship to top it is the rebel cruiser. The extra shields and space on the Kestral aren't enough to compensate for the lack of speed (not to mention the price, which is also a consideration for some).

But with an upgraded corvette you can outrun missiles, can you not? (it's been a while since I played the game, so I can't recall for sure...)

You can too in a kestrel. Unfortunately, the way the game vectors graphics, it is easy to evade missiles flight paths.

    • Only ship better than a Corvette is a Rebel Cruiser? I believe the Rebel Destroyer is superior to a Cruiser.

If the decision is Rebel Cruiser or Destroyer, I'll go for the Destroyer, too. Higher speed, same turret count, and again no fighters.
