From the American Heritage College Dictionary, Third Edition:
shuttle- a vehicle used in regular travel back and forth over an established route
-well, they are only good for passenger missions.
scout- one that is dispatched from a main body to gather information
-makes sense, it's good for exploring the galaxy.
courier- a messenger
-?
clipper- a sharp-bowed sailing vessel that was built for great speed
-yeah, right.
argosy- a large merchant ship
-exactly.
rapier- a light sharp-pointed sword used only for thrusting
-the old fire-all-your-torps-while-zooming-toward-your-target maneuver.
corvette- a fast, lightly-armed warship, smaller than a destroyer
-I swear, you can look it up yourself!
kestrel- any of various small falcons, belonging to the genus Falco
-named after a predatory bird. makes sense.
manta- any of several rays of the family Mobulidae, having a large flattened body and winglike pectoral fins
-so, in other words, triangle-shaped.
cruiser- one of a class of fast warships of medium tonnage with a long cruising radius and less armor and firepower than a battleship
-but, since battleships don't exist in EV, they're the toughest things out there.
