I have Uplink 1.33 on OS 9.1. Is there a way to hide the links from the map even if they are part of the saved conection setting? I usually connect trough all public access servers and ARC access terminals so it's really difficult to find the servers you need to hack into. Every time I try to switch Uplink to run in a window, I get an error message when trying to open it again. I stole money from a bank, deleted the transfer log and connected to the uplink international bank. A few seconds after I had disabled the proxy I got caught for "attempting to steal money" from the other bank. Should I just wait until I can afford bypass software? The veryfast speed usually doesn't work correctly but instead have the same effect as the fast speed. Is there any other solution to the bugs other than to switch to OS X?

1: If you hit that button on the right of the links in the main screen thing that look like venn diagrams at an angle, they won't show up on the map until you load the saved connection. I personally get around this problem by finding the system's location, wether it be by connecting to it from the list of links just to make note of its location or putting the map at maximum zoom and just looking for it, then bouncing off the nearby systems so i don't accidently click on the system I'm hacking into when selecting all the other bounce points
2: Sorry, can't really help you here other that to say: get OS X
3: Did you delete all the proper logs? When transferring money you need to delete: A: The logs on the bank you stole the money from; B: The log (the bank statement thingys) on the account you stole from of the money being stolen; The log on your account of the money being transfered to it; The logs on the bank your account is in. Note, that it is recommended that you have an account on the bank you're hacking into so that A and D are one in the same. Also when transferring money for a mission, only do parts A and D, otherwise your employer doesn't think you transferred anything.
4: I just tried on this on my computer, 10.3.3 and I think the latest version of uplink, and the effect of "fast" and "very fast" ether is or is very close to being the same.

2: My computer somehow seems to be incompatible with OS X, although it meets the requirements.
3: I had finished part B and was doing part C. I don't think they could have traced me passively in under 5 minutes trough all those servers. The statement log might have been the reason I got caught, but I've done it before with bypassers. I was stealing money.
4: I meant that usually it's the same as fast but sometimes jumps at about 13x the speed of fast.
And it's really annoying that you have to save the connection again after restarting Uplink

3: Do you mean the transfer log or the access log?
4: Sometimes it jumps 65 minutes and at other times only 5 minutes. Restarting Uplink sometimes changes the situation. I don't know what's causing it.
5: And another weird thing: When I accidentally tried to hack into somewhere while using fast speed, the trace was fast but Password_Breaker didn't work any faster. That's why breaking into GCD with 60 Ghz CPU, Decypher 1.0 and Monitor_Bypass is really boring.
6: If you break to the GCD and use Password_breaker to get admin access, every time you connect and click ok before using Monitor_Bypass it will immediately start tracing you.

6: Yeah, the Monitor of the system is probably the Admin, so he would notice of someone logged on using his password. If you use the readwrite account you buy yourself a lot more (maybe even an indefinite) amount of time.

3: Banks can trace about 10 bounces in a minute passively? What if I select all the links i can get fom InterNIC? And how could they find the receiver of the transfer that fast without having their own log? They'd need to notice it and then use a hacker to break to every possible bank. Doing that in five minutes would require great luck.
5: Why does the tutorial say that the time-accelerating buttons are for those times when you are waiting for something to happen?
6: But it said that my username and password was revoked but still traces me every time I connect to it, it will begin tracing me. And why would it do that only after I click ok?

All these numbers and questions are confusing me a lot, but we'll see what I can help you with.

3c: Everyone else on the planet has an interest in keeping banks secure, because they don't want their money stolen. If you steal money from a bank, or compromise their security in any way, they will have a lot of help quickly, and server admins will open up their logs quicker. How about that for an explanation :).
4: No idea. My only guess would be that 65 minutes is the standard behavior, and sometimes Uplink gets confused and goes slower.
5: If you want to increase the speed of a program, give it more CPU time.
6: Did you use Firewall_disable or Proxy_disable? If you've done anything semi-permanent that would be traced as soon as it happened, then a trace will still activate whenever you connect until it's reset.

6: It starts tracing me before I log in. Right after clicking log in to that screen that says something like "Unauthorized access will be punished" etc. It also says access granted to password protection, but the name and code are invalid. Or did I never log off? I only disconnected.

3: That's a very good strategy. You still have to delete the transfer logs from both accounts, but you only have to hack one bank to do it.
5: Try reducing the CPU time and it will slow up dramatically. There is a difference. Some places are faster than others to password crack.

Vempele I have the same problem with the fast buttons.

Do you have an registered or unredistered verson of uplink.
The fast button and the very fast button seem to become the same speed once you have gone through about 1 month on uplink ingame time in the unregisted version, I found that out by starting a few more people and found that at about the same time the very fast button would slow down to 5min intivals. If you have the registered version of uplink I wouldn't have a clue of whats happening.

I think that it may just be a thing that happens with the unregistered version as another thing to make you but it among all of the other things if you know what I'm trying to say.

Unregistered, as there is no point to register without having OS X. I'm going to check if it runs smoothly in 9.2.1. At least EVN runs significantly faster than in 9.1.
BTW, you can trade shares with the unregistered version: just log in as admin.

The Fast Forward buttons don't make programs run faster.
They're mostly there for waiting for new missions and to wait for the things to show up in the news for the missions where you need to have stuff show up in the news. (Destroy a mainframe, frame a man, etc.)

I think i just said that. Actually, compared to game time, the fast forward buttons make programs run A LOT slower. And I still have a problem about what to do with those 10 minutes.
About your signature: It's a common bug. Have you contacted the company that made the program?
If I upload the log_deleter into the uplink test machine and run it, uplink crashes after some 30 logs have been deleted.
I tried that bank thing and it worked. I stole 5 credits and right after disconnecting I got the "maximum uplink rating reached" message again. My uplink rating didn't change.

Are you hacking with the game on fast!?!?!? If you are that would be a problem (it speeds up all traces). Also to by more time on passive tracing make an account at every bank and the stock market. Passive traces are slower through places where you have accounts especially accounts at banks.

No. What problem? And nowadays I do a bank hack before even trying GCD. It seems the veryfast speed starts to malfunction in 17th or 18th April. Why does the tutorial say you need Log_deleter 1.0? It's easier and faster to delete all logs via the console in the test machine. I tried 2.0 but didn't see any difference. I thought it would leave a blank space but it left a "log deleted" log.

If you use lesser versions of log_deleter, you'll eventually get caught, especially on more advanced missions.

Deleting the logs through the console is like using Log_Deleter v 1.0. This means that on missions where you really ticked someone off you can still be caught. My advice is always use Log_Deleter v4.0 to cover your tracks. Never rely on the console for log deleting.
