Uplink Forum: A total mess

This relates not to Uplink specifically, but to this board. Lately, if you look down the topic list, you will note that a large number of them are locked. The reason is mostly that they are off topic or inappropriate. I have also noted that people are repeatedly asking the same questions, over and over again and Jericon has been extremely busy. I know that this might end up as a flame war (not at all my intention), but I just wanted to see what you think. This board is a mess. I say this coming from the PoG and Coldstone boards, so maybe I just don't know how most of these forums are, but it seems that firstly, people are extremely rude to eachother, and often (bodadem) because of the person speaking AOLSpeak. I am against it, but also against being rude about telling people about it. Now, another problem, virtual hands up if you have ever used the search feature. The repetitive topics are another thing driving me slowly away from this board. Finally, the fact that often a thread goes on and on or turns into a totally different topic. To keep things sane, post only related things in a topic. If you have a question off-topic, but which originated from another topic, quote from that topic and make a new one! All of this just makes the board a nicer place (In my opinion). Ok, now, please refrain from flaming me, but go ahead and shout at me. (And sorry that this degenerated into a rant of sorts).

That's the Introversion board. This is an Ambrosia board, and from what I've seen, Ambrosia boards aren't like that and shouldn't be like that. That's why I started this thread in the first place.

Im just kidding, yea, these boards are a mess, people do tend to post off topic, but this game just started, so there are going to be loads of people with a quick question who are only going on the boards because they just started. They most likely do not know about the search feature, but it will probably settle down in good time. True, the PoG boards are less clattered by junk, but hey, they have the Pub for mindless nonsense, someone ought to open one up 'round here, maybe that will distract the nonsense.

Well I don't come by these forums that often because they are so well ordered and highly moderated. The IV boards are more to my liking, but thats just me. O well.

Sorry if I am being unclear, but bodadem has been very good about not using AOLSpeak. I am referring the recently locked thread where he jumped on someone else for it (which is ok, in of it self) a tad too rudely (which I think is not ok). Sorry for the unclearness there.

You have some interesting thoughts, but do you really think that somebody who isn't using the search feature, or isn't looking at the same topic three posts down going to read this?

For Non-Uplink discusssion you can use the EV Banter and Brawl. The games may be different, but BnB has nothing to do with the game in any way. As for the issues with topics going off topic. I've seen that this is mostly due to unregistered users coming in and going off topic as they cannot post new topics. I will see what I can do about that.

But for now, with an Iron fist, I will rule.

HA! You think it's bad just reading the IV forums? Try being one of only 2 mods on it. I was shocked that this forum had 4 or 5 mods to watch over a single board.

Only two of the mods here actually moderate this board. Andrew and David Dunham are board admins and are in charge of al the forums.

Jericon is the moderator of other boards, you know, including EVN, which is taking a LOT of work to do lately with the release of PC Nova. And I beleive mrxak also moderates others, though I don't know which.

Indeed I do. It's quite organized you see. The top row is all about me. The second row is all about my website/stuff, the third row is for EV Development and Uplink related stuff, and the fourth row is for a quote or something of that nature.

It's funny you mentioned this, because not too long ago the fourth line read something to the effect of: "If you think I have too much in my sig, make a website about it and I'll link to it in my sig."

Well ... I didn't even find the search feature until its existence was mentioned several times in threads I was reading. The link for it is rather small and unobtrusive.

(Though in my case, my nearsighted eyes may have contributed to me missing it ... I didn't spot the "reply" button on my own either <g> )

Mind you, I'm all for lean-looking interfaces. It's one of the things I like about Uplink.
