      The newest level set is up and roaring. I started the first level about 7 months ago. I went back to it every once in a while but the times were very spread out. About 3 weeks ago I sent a cop to Malc and he enjoyed it so much I have worked on it again and will be releasing the first version by January 21st. The first version will have the first 3 levels unless I feel like I want to do more. The first version will include:

      Level 1- Preperation
      Level 2- Underground
      Level 3- The Main Cavern

      There will be about 13 levels total

      So far level 1 is complete. Everything is Ok except for the testing part, i'll have to grab some beta testers for that. Level 2 is 75% done. I just need to add scenery bonus's, enimies, and some mopping up. Level 3 I havn't even started.

      I'd like to grab some beta testers right now, if Ferazel2001 and Bob speak up after someone else i'm mostl likely going to give it to them becuase I have promised them a long time ago, otherwise the job is up for grabs, i'd like 2 or 3 max. Thanks

    • Level 3 is almost done. Just need to add enimies and such to it

      Level 6 is about 68% done. Some more ground tiles and I can do scenery

    • Heh, good thing I did super boost on the levels being that OU will be the main thing 🙂

      Level 1: DONE (Caves)
      Level 2: DONE (Caves)
      Level 3: Almost done (Caves)
      Level 4. Almost finished laying out the level. Add the bonus/enimies/scenery (Fire)
      Level 12: Only have the tiles set up for it. Havn't started anything (Sands)
      Level 16: Boss level. A little Akward might need changes (Fire)
      Level 5: Almost done (Forest)
      Level 23: Boss level. Havn't touched it. (Forest)
      Level 6: My best level in my opnion. Over half done. (Ice)

      Questions: Background problems. In some levels when i put in the background info EXACTLY right all I get is monotone color squares. They are big squares of blue in the forest and sands, there are jagged icicles in the Ice one and in the caves there are little swirly thingies. How do I fix these?

      Here's what you do:

      1. Take for example, your ice level. If you want a flash freeze background, but there is just a bunch of squares, open Flash Freese in MASCOT, and from the edit menu, click on "Copy Level Info". Now, open your level and click on "Paste Level Info".

      You can do it to the other levels also. ex. For your forest level copy the level info from another one of Ben's forest levels. Easy. 😄

      The background tiles are a composit picture which is 6 squares wide by 6 deep. When you start a level from scratch you either have to copy from another level - as Ice suggests or make your own picture work.

      The problem with copying from another level is that the Tile Scroll speeds may not be right for the size of level you have, and if your level is larger than the one you copy from you will still have unfixed tiles at the right hand end of the level.

      Changing the tiles is simple, if a little tedious.

      Go to Tiles>PXBack Edit Mode. Your cursor will change to a large square.

      Starting at the top left hand corner, miss the first square and click once in the second one, twice in the third etc until you come to the 7th which you miss. You'll get the idea as you do it.
      Now on the second layer press the alt key and click on all the tiles in that row once.
      Then do the same as you did in the first row.
      Now on the third row you need to press alt click twice etc etc.

      If when you have finished six rows you haven't reached the bottom of the level you need to go to edit>Set Paralax Tile Scroll Speeds and reduce the number in the first box (which should read 128 to start with) until the bottom of the 6th tile reaches the bottom of the level.

      The other problem you might encounter doing it this way is the length on your level. If you have very long levels the end PX Back tiles won't change. This is to do with the dialogue box you get up when you make the level.
      When you make levels you need to be careful that you have enough PXBack tiles specified.
      The dialogue when you get it up goes something like this:

      Allocate New Level
      Enter the desired size of the tile maps.
      Size of parallax bkgd tiles: 128 pixels square
      parallax back layer map size: 32 X 8 tiles
      parallax middle layer map size: 32 X 8 tiles
      Main foreground tilemap size: 128 X 32 tiles

      If 32 back tiles is the right length for 128 FG tiles then if you want the level to be say 250 tiles long then you need 63 background tiles (divide by 4 and round up). It's always better to make the number bigger rather than smaller - This is one of those perameters that you cannot easily change. If you have made a mistake already the only options you have are:- 1. Scrap the level and start again or 2. Find a bigger level than yours, with the background you want and copy the level info from that (as Ice described in his reply).

    • Ok, I have a couple questions again

      1. Can you make the dimensions of a level bigger without starting over?

      2. How do you delete a node off the map?

      3. Whenever I make the level darkness higher than 0 everything becomes EXTRMELY bright. The colors are way to bright and everything is all screwed up. What gives?

      1.) Hurm... I don't know. I really don't think there is a way though.
      2.) Where it says Valid: change it to a zero (I believe, although I am not in MASCOT at the moment)

      1. You can't change the dimensions once you've clicked ok on that first screen but you can increase or decrease the area you use withing those dimensions.

      2. Emperor Ent is right when you put a zero in the valid box the node will disappear from the map - but make sure all the links to it are gone as well or you will get node errors in your game.

      3. A lightmap is necessary if you set the info (0) in Level info to anything other than (0). You make a lightmap by making a greyscale picture which is the same size as your level map and the light in the game will be dependant on the darnes of the grey in the map. Lightmaps can be tricky to make. The simplest one to do is if you just want the light to be a little less make the map one colour of grey all over. In the Maze in "the Return" I used the gradient tool in Photoshop to make the map from white at the top to black at the bottom.

      4. to make an overlay first put the floor tiles you want ferazel to walk on into the map as normal then using the bottom right hand tile in the FG tileset press (o) and click on where you want to put an overlay tile. (You can also overly edge tiles, just select the tile you want, and remember to press (letter o) as you click on the map) To delete overlay tiles press (o) and delete as you move the cursor over the tile you want to remove.

      Any FG Tile can be used to make overlay tiles. Ex: you can make fake walls that Ferazel can pass through without having to make them into crunch tiles. Unfortuately, Ferazel appears in front of the tiles unless you put an HP Passage around them (there's also another way, but I can't tell you what yet :p)

      If you use one of the longer HP Passages (I think 6 or more tiles) they don't show up in the game. So it looks just like a blank wall.
