    • Controlling Spinblocks from Conversations

I can't give you the details because it would spoil Orthographic Universe's plot, but I want to be able to control Spinblocks from a conversation. Is this possible?

Also, is it possible to make a conversation detect wether a sprite on a different level has been destroyed or not? I want to amke a conversation where someone knows whether you've killed someone or not.

      1. I seriously doubt it. Spinblocks work from connection of sprite objects, typically buttons. Conversations don't have IDs like that to work with.

      2. Not directly, but I bet if you set up a nice Perm Flag widget you could accomplish that with some stipulations.

      ------------------
The entity of spamguy , under the declaration of the Department of Operations, asks that all users hunt down and taunt labelled Trippsians and/or fractured thinkers. These felons are particularly easy to overcome (and be overcome they must!), for they don't use bats, unless they do. (12.30)

    • 1.) I recommend that you avoid dealing with Spin Blocks they hardly work the way they are supposed to. That is why I had to take a break from Creepth Upon the Earth. It was getting nigh impossible.

2.) You could also accomplish this by doing things with bosses, and perm flags and multi paths. Here's how it would work:

Make an area with a monster designated as a boss. Beyond him have to paths one is blocked by a rock barrier. The other is open. When the monster is killed the barrier opens thereby moving upward and blocking the other path. Both paths must be un returnable. (have some way to prevent the user from getting back to the initial monster area. Once the user reaches the point of no return they will encounter a perm flag.
I think this would accomplish your goal. Is my logic flawed/failing? Hope this helps. Just remember, be creative and MASCOT can do nigh anything.

But you can open barriers with conversations using the perform command (6)(n)(3) (where (n) is the number in info(0) of the rock barrier) perhaps the final number could be 2 or 1 for spinblocks. Humm.

Lizwiz goes off to do some serious testing.

    • Remember when we had our debate about spinblocks a while ago? If you look in level #1 of Dr Tall Land in MASCOT, you'll find my spinblock testing facility. The door that you start by used to be linked to that little pathway.

I don't remember the debate but I did use a copy of your tester thank you Dr. Tall, - I did wonder what that door war for, and yes Cat99 you can activate spin blocks with a conversation. That is to say you can make them go solid - I don't think you can make them disappear.

Set your spin block as follows:
      info (0) = 2
info (1) = number above 512 (which is the largest number of sprites you can use
the other two info fields don't seem to matter.

then in your conversation edit box:
      perform action(type 🙂 6 (argument 🙂 (number in info (1) of spin block) , 3

I don't know why you have to have 3 in the last box but it doesn't work with anything else.

      Hope that helps.

    • By the way, you could do this: (it's kind of live AVN's trick)

make a conversation open a rock barrier which has been pressing a button. the button is connected to the spinblocks, so it opens the spinblocks. if that doesn't work make a barrier with button connected to other barrier connected to spinblocks if you know what I mean.

Yes, that would work! I'll go try it! thanks.

And here I told you it was impossible. I'm glad you asked the webboard.

    • My experience with Spin Blocks (I tried to make them turn from solid to open) was awful. I essentially wanted more attractive rock barriers which would not effect the area above. This is hard. I had it so that the user would move rocks off the buttons to make the Spin Blocks open. Unfortunately this would only work if the user sees the rock hit the barrier. I am still having nightmares about that level.

      Did that boss thing work?

    • Dr.Thok swoops to the rescue! Errr, nevermind..

      I thought of something...
Have the conversation open a door Ends of the Earth style. This door is in the middle of nowhere and cannot be used in any other way. It is on a button, and spin blocks can be set to appear either when nothing is on the button or something is on the button. if the blocks are set to be on when nothing is on the button (used in River of Fears ).

So: talk to person, door opens, button is no longer held down, spinblocks appear.

It might require a toll (20 red xichrons?)...

      note to cat99:
I registered MacBrickout just a bit ago and have already begun making levels. grin

(edit)Ack! I just read up on the rest of the topic and noticed someone beat me to making this suggesting! Pooie. That # inches of snow thing threw my brain (or lack thereof) off track.(/edit)

I have. I love it. Only one problem, when I get rid of all the blocks, nothing happens. I just stay on the first level.

Well, that's not right. Even unregistered you can progress to other levels. I'm thinking you have a faulty file? Try downloading it again. What happens when you clear all the blocks in the first screen? Does the game just shut down? Does it reload the first screen?

I remember that bug! I thought it dissapeared, though. It sounds like it has nothing to do with my level set, although it is odd it onlyy occurs with the MazeBall levels. hmm. email Carson at LeapfrogSW@aol.com. He may have a suggestion.

Well..this seems to be a problem with cat and his levels. If I'm understanding you, the regular game has no issues. So cat, why should a person play your levels? What do you add?

They're different, (duh) harder, use new textures, they have many new bonus levels, there are 50 of 'em in the final version, and they'll incorporate Bonus Bricks in MacBrickout 4.2

(Duh). If a person can't progress because of a faulty bug...what would be the point?
