Ok, i was planning out my new game, when I decided that I wanted it shareware. I read the FAQ and they had something on this, but it wasn't completely understandable.

My question is are you allowed to make shareware games with Coldstone on your own? I've need to know this, since I am going (or trying) to make my game shareware.

You should try to get an official reply, but I think I read in the Liscence agreement that you can distribute shareware games made from Coldstone as long as you have registered Coldstone itself. I think it is only commercial games which need a special liscence from Ambrosia/Beenox.

But it would be good to hear this verified by someone like Andrew or Dee, just in case I'm confused.

"Games and plugins created by Coldstone may be distributed non-commercially at no cost; shareware distribution of games and plugins created by Coldstone are likewise free of charge.

Commercial distribution, (defined as requiring the customer to pay before they can obtain your game/plugin), whether online or retail, requires obtaining a license from Ambrosia Software, Inc. Commercial distribution licenses are available at reasonable rates, either flat-fee or royalty-based. Special rates are also available for educational institutions. Please contact help@AmbrosiaSW.com for details."

We think we have a good record of publishing and distributing shareware games, but there is no obligation to have Ambrosia publish your shareware game created with Coldstone.

What are the downsides (I already know the benifits :)) of working with ASW on it?

Well I wouldnt call it a downside, but I would assume you would have to pay quite a bit, or recieve a smaller percentage of the proffits. This is all assuming that any of our games are wonderfull enough to warrant being published as a standalone game.

Here's an in game solution to locking a character out of an area of the game, simply include an event asking for a particular item/response/password/

if they don't have it script the game to end and roll credits etc, and annoying you haven't registered thang
