    • Prediction

When Coldstone is released, we will see a slew of people complaining because Coldstone doesn't include X or doesn't have their pet feature Y. There will be people posting lists of features they'd like to see added to the game.

That isn't the prediction (that's a given -- it is too easy of a prediction) -- my prediction is that the people who complain about Coldstone lacking this or that, or who post extensive wishlists -- they will not be the ones who create anything with Coldstone.

The people who download Coldstone, immerse themselves in it, and quietly start unleashing their imagination within the framework that Coldstone provides will be the ones who stretch Coldstone to its limits and create wonderful things with it.

    • Well said, I guess the old adage goes, "neccessity is the mother of invention"...

Here's looking to the future, and hoping Ambrosia and Beenox don't stop with version 1.0, don't stop after they've tailored Coldstone as the perfect editor for their flagship PoG, and PoG into a masterpiece, who will hear the cries of those recognize excellence when they see it, but always strive for more. Coldstone deserves a fighting chance. The fans and designers deserve a fighting chance. Ambrosia/Beenox deserves a fighting chance.

    • I have an even more accurate prediction:

The people who do not have Coldstone are the ones who will not be making anything with it. Can't go wrong! 😉

But seriously, that's one of the things that concerns me. A friend and I are making plans for a Coldstone RPG-- he's on a G4, I'm on a PC. Dunno if there will be a Windows version yet, but perhaps I can make graphics anyway, and he can import them into Coldstone.

In a lot of cases the feature request posts aren't so much demanding feature X or feature Y as determining the limits of their ability to create games with Coldstone. See my post entitled "Battle System Creation": now that we know more about the battle system and how we may be able to customize it, we can start planning the battle system, but you never know until you ask.

Both PoG and Coldstone will be available for Windows.

    • So, what is the battle system gonna be? Real time or turn based? Just strait out no games, just tell us what it is as of now, don't tell us it could change cuz we already know that.

    • a) It's already been stated that Coldstone has one combat engine.
🆒 PoG is made with Coldstone
      c) according to macnn's preview, "Pillars of Garendall is combat-intensive and features a Diablo II-style point-and-click battle engine,"

No, it's not a straightforward answer, but you could have figured this out yourself.

    • The battle system will most definitely be real-time. I believe (and hope), judging by the movies and the update logs, that not all battles have to incorporate the Diablo/Baldur's Gate style point-and-click hack-and-slash. Unless it's been changed, battles can be completely controlled with creator/user defined hotkeys.

    • Well, I am still hoping for a chance at turn-based, but if I have to use a realtime battle system, I guess I can deal with it.
It just won't be the way I feel my game will need to be without TB battle.

    • On the "eternal optimist" side, I seriously think that, with enough time and effort, you could simulate a pretty decent turn-based combat system by using a lot of event scripting and custom variables. It wouldn't be nearly as straightforward as just making hostile NPCs and plopping them on a map to use the actual Coldstone combat engine, but I think it would definitely be possible. Whether it would be feasible is, of course, another matter altogether. 🙂

      One person battles.

BTW, I do love Zelda. I just don't consider it an RPG, more like an adventure game. I like Diablo, but I don't consider that an RPG either, it would fall under, by my definition, action or hack and slash. But, let's not bring up an arguement.

    • If this game is going to be like diablo does that mean support for random items? (and to what level of complexity)
