      once more into the breach

It has been three months since the last attacks the the terrorist group known only by the name of Triad. The last time, Paris was destroyed in a rain of nuclear fire. Now they have threatened NATO and the UN, and claim they have the ability to strike anywhere on Earth at any time, against any target of their choosing.

Premiere Mack stood in front of the assembled delegates from countries around the world. "Gentlemen. We have received word from various intelligence agencies around the world that Triad is active again. We all know what happened to Paris when we couldn't stop them previously. Shall we let them make fools of us now?"

He stopped momentarily as an aide came up and whispered into his ear. He shuffled his notes, and continued: "I've also been informed that they have compatriots in this very body - those who would pretend to be our allies but are in fact our enemies." He gazed out through the chamber, and said, "You know who you are. The innocents among us do not. But we will take vengeance if you harm us. I've authorized NATO to deploy nuclear weapons against any nation that seems to be threatening - once a nation is chosen by this body for targeting, that is."

      THE RULES:

We all know the drill. You meet, you vote, someone dies. After the vote, those who need to PM me must do so.

Rounds will last probably 48 hours, unless people seem to be slow in voting, in which case I'll end the round prematurely and count the votes only of those who have voted before I end it.

Don't forget to bold your votes. 😛

At the request of prophile, I will not be informing you of when someone with a special title, be they evil or good, dies. As before, there are two dictators.

This time, instead of people being grouped into nations together, I've given each of you a country individually. National alignments do have a bearing on the game.

      1Eevee1 - Ireland
Anon - United States of America
      darth_vader - China
      Eugene Chin - Australia
      GutlessWonder - Canada
      mrxak - Israel
      nfreader - Indonesia
      prophile - England
      rebelswin_85 - Germany

You'll all receive a PM from me. Once I've posted the topic and you've PMed me back, feel free to vote.

    • Well since everybody is going to vote for me anyway first, no matter what I do, I might as well start things by pointing out that nfreader has been a terrorist in every game I remember him playing in, whereas I've been other things much more often.

Mackilroy has said that national alignments have a bearing on the game, so let's take a look at the historical sites of terrorists. Indonesia and Ireland jump off the list, so nfreader and 1Eevee1 are your terrorists. The intelligence agent is probably going to be the USA, me, England, or possibly China, so for the time being we shouldn't vote for Anon, darth_vader, mrxak, or prophile.

      Spoiler

      nfreader

, being much more likely to be guilty so far than 1Eevee1, is a good person to start with.

    • But mrxak, Israel does not have a good reputation when it comes to terrorists. And who could forget Germany after World War Two ended, with their werewolves.

You just can't pick a terrorist by country alone, because nearly all of those countries on there have had terrorists in them.

As for voting for you, I do not see any need to. After all, even though jumping to conclusions does paint some question of doubt upon yourself, there is, however a slight chance that one of your assumptions could be right.

Let me assure you though, that I have not been a terrorist yet, and it does not seem to be changing any time soon.

At this present time, I will withhold my vote.

    • Palestinians aren't Israeli. The Nazis did some terrorism after they lost WWII, but that's not terribly recent. In any case, Mossad is a well-respected intelligence organization. I would not tell you that I'm the intelligence agent if I was, but I think that I stand a greater change of being it along with the other countries I named, if Mackilroy's statement is to be believed, and the two terrorist countries I named have much more recent history of terrorism than anyone else on the list. I could be wrong, but I do know that nfreader is a terrorist pretty much all the time, and since we always ignore this fact he usually gets away with it because the person running the game keeps making him a terrorist.

    • Yeah, I was actually a little surprised when you didn't mention the Israeli intelligence. Definitely one of the stronger intelligence forces in existence, especially with all the help they get from America. Though maybe Israel's getting to feel a bit to big for it's own good, and has struck out on a more expansionist path. Ãœber-zionists, anyone?

Indonesia, China, and Ireland definitely stand out to me as being potential terrorist hotbeds. China is also the only communist (or even Socialist, I believe) country on there.

    • Hm... true, I will cast my vote for darth_vader at this time. I have reason to suspect that he may be one of the terrorists within our ranks.

    • I cast my vote for (REDACTED). Not because I don't like Israel, but because I don't like HIM as a person.

Furthermore, China won't be a terrorist hotbed. Their laws are too harsh to allow anything like that. The only terrorist activity would most likely be against the government.

    • Alright, raise your hands, who wants to be friends with Canada?

And really, don't look at me like that, I have every right to be running around with just a maple leaf.

Sounds like our friend 1Eevee1 may be an IA, so I'll go with his vote for darth_vader.

      And what reason is that?

Careful. If he's smart, he could realize that people take such unsupported votes as the mark of the intel agent. That could well make him the dictator. Also, if Mack is using the same basic rules that we have been, the intel agent doesn't get to investigate until after the first round, which would mean that he doesn't have anything to go on at all, not even an intel report. He may not be your friend.

Now, remember a post that I made in a previous game. The first to accuse is oftentimes a terrorist. In this case it was mrxak, but after the last game he is taking some serious precautions, so for the moment suspicion is off him. He named nfreader and 1Eevee1 as potential terrorists based on national alignment. The next person to vote was 1Eevee1, and notice that he did not make any mention of mrxak naming him as the second-most likely suspect. A classic dictatorial move. Terrorists and other baddies like to sneak under the radar rather than defend against anything other than a direct accusation. It's a pattern I noticed when I was playing a dictator. So that makes 1Eevee1 the most suspicious in my book, and it's two things against him: sneaky behavior, unfounded accusation.

Or perhaps his accusation of me is not unfounded. I'm one of the people that mrxak named as likely to be an intel agent. Accusing mrxak himself was too obvious, and he was a terrorist last round. Prophile was also a terrorist last round, so that makes mrxak him look less suspicious this round. Anon was the intel agent last round, so again that makes it less likely that he's in the same role in this one. That leaves me as the one likely to be the intel agent according to mrxak. Now, if I were the intel agent I wouldn't reveal it. The reason that I'm pointing all of this out is that I think 1Eevee1 is a terrorist hunting for the intel agent, and mrxak's analysis is all he has to go on.

Edit: Rewrote the fourth sentence of the second paragraph after the quote from prophile for great clarity and justice.

    • Canada supports prophile. darth_vader is being entirely too crafty for my peace of mind.

    • These darth_vader votes are entirely too suspicious.

      Vote: 1Eevee1.

    • Speaking as somebody who's run these games before and has been the intelligence agent once before, I should remind you that the intelligence agent does not get to investigate somebody before the first round.

If you are voting based on who you think is the intelligence agent this round, and who they are voting for, you could easily be voting for anybody.

1Eevee1 so far seems to be confirming my suspicions that he's a terrorist.

I agree with the Australians, 1Eevee1 has not given us any reason to vote for darth_vader, and that, for now, is enough reason to vote for him.

By my count, that makes a 3-to-3 tie between 1Eevee1 and darth_vader so far.

I'm being too crafty? What I'm trying to do is prove my accusations and defend myself with what evidence is available, as opposed to simply making unfounded accusations.

    • If it saves darth_vader, who I believe to be innocent, and kills 1Eevee1, who I already believe to be guilty, I have no choice but to change my vote to 1Eevee1. We can get nfreader next time.

You're doing it to save me?

    • If I believe you're innocent and the other choice is to vote off somebody I believe is guilty, it's an easy choice. If it was between you and somebody that I thought was innocent too...

    • First, might I just say that voting for me is a pretty bad mistake. You will need me later on.

Second, I am highly offended by the accusations by yourselves against me. I do not have anything to prove that darth_vader is guilty, just a hunch. And remember, a hunch was responsible for many famous murderers. And if darth_vader is allowed to live, then he will murder.

I believe that darth_vader is a terrorist that must be stopped by any means at our disposal, and so help the people that don't believe me.

And I'll now address the point made by mrxak against myself.

If I was a doormat, would I be a terrorist doormat, or just a doormat?

Ergo, I am not a terrorist.

This is what we call the Chewbacca Defense.
