The Audemedon Battle Cruiser (there is no ship or sprite called Audemedon Battleship) is the sprite used for the Audemedon Carrier. The sprite called Audemedon Carrier is not used in the game at all.

    • I knew that and that's what I'm talking about. Not the Audemedon Carrier in the game, the ship that never appears.

    • Well, I'm pretty sure that it never appears for 2 reasons:
      1. Nathan himself doesn't know/care what guns it has.
      2. Nathan didn't want it to exist.

As for the gateship: Slug: buying a pistol to defend yourself doesn't make you a frontline soldier. Mounting a few point-defense turrets on a gateship doesn't make it a battleship. The Ishimans would protect their gateship at least a little, if it's so valuable.

    • But if the Ishimans have more than one, than they wouldn't feel as attatched to it, and might simply use extreme numbers of escorts.

      ------------------

    • I'm not sure how many the Ishimans have; I know the Cantharans only have one. But I am fairly certain there are no more than 5 Ishiman Gateships in existence (plus their weaponry would almost have to have been upgraded; the color scheme appears to indicate that the Gateship is an older design)

Actually, one of the Ares screenshots (it might have been an old one) showed the Ishiman gateship in it. Maybe it was cut out, and Nathan Lamont does know.

    • The Ishiman gateship appears in the game, and Nathan probably knows how well its armed. The Audemedon Battlecruiser might not even EXIST, so Nathan probably can't tell us its armament.

The Ishiman gateship probably has point defense lasers/repulsers/something-or-other and a group of HVD/carrier/HVC escorts. I can't imagine NOT defending something that important, and it would be hugely important, even if there are 5 of them.

    • I'm thinking along these lines:

1-Electromagnetic Disruptor (weapon that makes your ship systems go nuts, was on Cantharan gateship)

      2-Fullerene Pulse Turret

3-Auto-Target Torpedo Repulsor (weapon on Cantharan gateship that makes you go flying)

As for numbers of ships, I'm not exactly sure. Some text bits in Ares hint that the Ishimans only have one. Five gateships seem a bit unrealistic. I mean, the Cantharan Order, which I assume is very large and has access to large amounts of resources, has only built one. If I had enough resources to build two, I would build two. Apparently the Cantharans can't. Since the Ishimans might even be smaller than the Cantharans, I don't see how they could possibly build five gateships. Gateships are big, hard to build, and expensive. They take lots of resources and lots of time.

    • They probably have a fleet on standby at all times, and the gateship can bring it in whenever it feels threatened.

Huh. The Cantharan gateship also had NEAR-INPENETRABLE shields, and look how my 50> human gunships tear into it.

    • I think Slug meant a different type of shielding (exotic defense systems seem to be in vouge on gateships, how many other ships had shikorelators and em jammers?). Basically, the difference between a kevlar vest and a bunker under a mountain. The gateship almost definatly has a large energy supply, and probably has a few HVC/defense drone or better escorts.

Also, according to Slug on GR, the Ishiman gateship is 3km in length, the Cantharan one was 5km, and a human carrier is 2 miles (3.22km) for purposes of compairison.

    • I think the Ishimans are much more technologically advanced than the Cantharaans, so they can build a much more efficient Jumpstream system, perhaps it costs less and uses less power, hence the Geteship can be smaller, and remember, the Cantharaans are concentrating on a crusade, and are getting resources through slave labor on captured worlds. The Ishimans get resources through highly automated Astrominers. The Ishimans could afford another gateship because they're not building carriers by the thousand, and their infastructure is Civil, not military. A gateship requires extremely specialized equipment, which couldn't be built at a standard military facility. The Ishimans have lots of high tech factories around, and lots of resources to put into them. They have a much more refined production process, which is probably more efficient and produces a much more refined and capable gateship.

(Unless of course that comes from Nathan Lamont, in which case, chuck that out the window)

    • I think the Ishiman gateship is unarmed. It's tough, they could have fleets on standby, and (big one coming up) gateships can easily RUN. I'd like to see someone kill a healthy gateship before it ran away.

That was a Cantharan gateship, commanded by a rather foolish Cantharan. An Ishiman commander would have run at the first sight of resisting humans.

    • Slug, the gateship ran away before it was killed. It was killed later, but it was damaged to the point where it couldn't completely act as a jumpgate inhibitor, and couldn't run away. It also wasn't healthy, which was one of the requirements. 😉

    • Here's another question. Can you pilot all of the 8 main races (Aud, Sal, Ish, Can, UNS, Baz, Obish, Gait) on the net? (I don't have internet at home yet (on a mac, anyway) so I can't use GR)

    • Baz and Obish (as well as Eleej) don't appear in the factory net scenarios. If you get the beta, they appear in many plugs, as well as the Eleej.

Yes, I hate Cantharans. Does the trophy on the wall make it too obvious?

You can't be Bazidanese, Obish, or Elejeetian, but you can be The Grolk!

    • I thought the Grolk only appeared in 'The Rogue'. (Chapters 1 and 2 of that plug are amazingly fun. It's the only plug that works without the Beta that I have found, xcept for 'Secret Levels'. (Thanks, Slug :)))
