I got to thinking about a reply I made to a post the other day and it's not sitting well with me.

What I said, in essence, was that I thought 'cheats' took the fun out of the game. In retrospect, I realized that that was a bit of a put-down for those who develop and/or use 'cheats'. Soooooo ......

I went out and downloaded a bunch of 'em and gave 'em a try. I had an absolute ball! I had all the gold I could ask for, all the filters of healing I could ever use, instant access to every shop on the map, and the ability to up my stats with a key stroke. And everything worked seamlessly!

And now I need to say "mea culpa", especially to the folks who worked hard developing these programs. Although I still believe that the most satisfying way to win a game is to just work thru it, I also feel that "so called" cheats can also be a heck of a lot of fun too.

I believe I was the one who said give credit where credit is due ... and then I went and stomped on some feelings I'm sure. :frown: You have my humblest apologies.

Now I'm off to rate the plug-ins I tried. And when I try Trinity as a conjurer, I am gonna give myself a little boost in the speed department! (Gonna get by with a little help from my friends! 😉 )

      Hugs on allayuz,
      Pam

    • Well, I personally don't like cheats when playing for the first time. But they sure do make a game fun after you've beaten it! There really are some gem cheat codes for games, like the Photon Man in Age of Empires. And the cheat menu in Civilization (nuclear bombs in 4000 B.C. ? Sure thing!). But as I said before, I usually only use them after I've beaten a game.

EDIT: Hehe. I need to shorten my signature! Future posts by me will have a shorter signature.

Cheater. 😛 I never use cheats, although I found myself using the "Filter" plugin when I killed the Guardian for the first time. Actually, I used Dev Tools for a while to get around quicker, but then I turned it off and played the game the "right" way. It is much more fun (and difficult) when played that way.

Before you start playing as a conjurer, make SURE you get the (url="http://"http://stark.evula.net/plugins/spells_expander.htm")Spells Expander plugin(/url) first if you don't have it. Playing Trinity as a conjurer is kind of pointless without it.

It seems to me that after a game has been finished and all of the plugins have been explored that there is nothing wrong with cheats if they open up another fun aspect of the game. That said cheats really take away from the work the original creators did in making them. It is much more fun and a bigger challenge to finish the game how it was meant to be played. Thanks Pam for starting up the topic.

    • Being the developer of "gold", "filter", "AM", and "shops", I figure I ought to put my 2 cents it.

Never use a cheat before you beat a game. It will shorten the amount of time you get to play the game the first time through, which is always the funnest (real word?) time through in my opinion. And I know many people shun cheating, but if you have already beaten it, it is always nice not to have to spend another 20 hours getting that armor coat back. I also do not mind people saying that cheating ruins it, because to each his own.

    • What someone else does within the sphere of their own game does not in any way detract nor inhibit anyone else's private game. Those that wish to use cheats can certainly do so, and they do not affect anyone else.

Personally I detest them. But that is merely my opinion.

Thanks again ... I think. I'm still trying to figure out how this stuff works, but putting the hugs stuff in a signature is kinda impersonal. I'll hafta work on it.

And re the "Staff of Lordship" .... If I weren't such a lady, I could really run with that one!

Good for you, go have fun with it. There is just one thing, DON'T tell anybody how you got it. Even though there are lots of clues out there, this is still one of the best kept secrets of the PoG game. And don't <deleted to protect secret of Earth-Friend>

You must be using Titania. This plugin probably isn't working for you because it uses certain keys to increase stats, and the Windoze keyboard layout is different from the mac.
