    • Nova lite for EVO

I've decided to try to convert nova to EVO as a TC plugin. I proposed this a long time ago on the EVO board and I did not get very positive results. There fore I doubt if there is anybody who will be partiularly interested in helping with this progect. Luckily all the help I need is for somebody to send me the nova spins DeRled for me because I can't get my copy of DeRle to work. After that I'll make the rest myself. I call this progect, Nova lite, this is because I know that there is plenty in nova that cannot be done in EVO. This means that I'll have to change alot. If I include the main mission strings at all they will be incomplete, and will certainlyl not go farther than the unregistered cuttoff. Other changes will be to the spins, outfits, systs, and to some minor extent, spobs. Licences will be handled with bit setting oufits, this means that any one ship can require only one licence.

Right now I have two development questions, one:how do I make shots exit from more than one point in EVO. I know its possible because the Voinian fighters and UE fighter do it. And two, can somebody send me the DeRled nova sprites.

    • I can answer the first question. There is ShotXOffset field in the shďp resource. The value entered here represents the number of pixels either side of ship center that unguided weapons will fire from.

That is an issue that I did think of. I basically nixed that problem because Nova lite will be exactly that, lite. It will probably not even come up to the unregistered Nova, so I don't think there should be a problem with that.

I should ask though, just to be on the safe side. Where is the best place?

I don't remember seeing that in my template, although I might just have been too used to the smaller EVC template. I'll have to take a look. Thanks!

    • The ShotXOffset field wasn't in Override 1.0.0 -- it was added in 1.0.1 or 1.0.2. Perhaps you are using an older template?

If I might make a suggestion: get "ShipWrite." It's a great graphical editor for EVO ships that handles the offsets. It's by the Sutherlands, the guys behind NovaTools. It should be on the add-ons page.

Shipwrite was (in my opinion) the best editor ever available for the classic engine. Ok, so it only edited one resource type, but man did it do it well. Everything was so well laid out. It was just fantastic... Might I suggest that either of the two editor makers use the functionality of Shipwrite as a basis for their ship editors...

    • Alright, if somebody could just DeRle the Nova sprites I would be well on my way. I've almost finnished doing the Dtl's, as soon as I can I'll post some screenshots of the Nova lite shipyard and landing interface. I'm making it as much like nova as I can. rubs hands together this will be fun!

    • And you couldn't do that why?

Download ENRleDERle from (url="http://"http://w00tware.ev-nova.net/")w00tware(/url) then drag the relevant files over derle. Select how you want them saved and hit ok. That does it all. Also, it gives you control over how you want this done.

To be honest though I don't get why you're doing this. NOVA has used so many features of the new engine that the old one doesn't have that it will be EXTREMELY hard to do this. Also, how many people are still using computers that cant run NOVA as their primary computer? Not many...

Also, are you going to send that file over for spinning? I have given you two methods of doing so that DO work. I can understand if you are having problems on your end, but let me know ok 🙂

Um, I have Evula's site open in another window, give me awhile and I'll finnish uploading those files.

    • I'll just warn you that DeRLEing is not perfect (unless it's just me). From my experience it can leave black lines across the sprites in some places. These usually aren't noticeable unless you look closely but they're quite obvious when you look at the mask.

I don't really care, the rest of the game will be toned down too, besides if its not noticeable then It doesn't matter.

Jules:I couldn't figure out how to upload the file, I tried to do everything like you said and I couldn't find anything about a new directory. And Evula said that he is no longer open to more applications, can you explain? :frown:

Once you've done that, find and select the files you want to upload in the left hand list, and click the copy button (the middle one).

After that it uploads the files to my site - simple 🙂

ohhh boy do I have trouble. I had planned to do most of this plugin by opening the nova resorces in an EVO template, this gets rid of all the extra information that is Nova exclusive. But when I tested the first version of this, everything went wacko. There are now hundreds of unwanted con lines running all over the place, 90 percent of the systems don't have a spob and some of them should and some have the wrong spob. What the heck went wrong??!! I also have another set of questions. When I first played nova it was version 1.0.6, the shuttle had two jumps of fuel and the light shuttle had three. a few days ago, about when I started this project, I re downloaded nova. This time the version was 1.0.7, the shuttle now has three jumps and the heavy shuttle has four. Are there many other changes? If so that makes Evula's survivel guide useless, and I was counting heavily on that.

    • Heh, yeah thats what I was saying earlier. NOVA's resources are so vastly different from the classic ones that this wouldnt be possible without redoing much of it from scratch. A lot of the resources werent just updated versions of the old ones, but completely remade from scratch.

The only way to really do this would be to start from scratch using the NOVA templates as a reference and starting from a clean slate 🙂

I see that now. I think it will be better If I use the Nova Resorces as reference only. I have another question. Are speeds and such in nova changed? For instance, the nova shuttle has a speed of 500, which would be overkill in Override.

    • You may want to take a look at the data for the EVO port for Nova. The speed adjustments and weapon damage adjustments will probably be helpful for going the other way.

      ------------------

    • Yeah, the speeds are different in NOVA. The scale is far larger for NOVA than Classic. This is where a lot of the problems came in in the port - they updated the ship's speeds for the new scale, but not the weapons.
