    • Possible EVNEW Bug

      Okay, so here's the deal.
I am working with EVNEW, trying to put a new outfit in. I am using Onyx's stuff.

So, I download ships, outfits, and shots. I convert everything, and then open up "Weapons". I find the torpedo launcher, open up the PICT rescource, and go to "Export", so that I can put it into another folder, and then use it for another plug.
Unfortunatly, when I open up ther folder that I exported to, the bitmap image is not there. I tried with JPG as well, but it doesn't work. I tried the same thing with the shot sprites, and the same happens.

I am running Windows ME, 1Ghz
      256 MB RAM
      EVNEW 1.2

    • Are you getting an error message? Is there anything in log.txt? Have you tried giving it a unique name and searching your hard drive for it?

    • No "Error" message, my unique file name isn't on my machine, and my log says this (I was looking at all of the Nova Sounds, too. I have no idea what this means):

      Quote

    • This is strange... I have exported from the onyx files with no problems. Has the export feature worked with anything else, or does this happen even with the nova datafiles?
And the log.txt doesnt look like it is connected to this issue
      -Az

Hmmmm - I just noticed there was a "bug" resource in nova.rez - that explains so much. Is that where they store the list of conditions that make the game crash?

    • Grrr....this really pisses me off.

I think that "Bug" rescource contains a random number generator, that will set off a random, unconnected bug in whatever I am doing.

    • That log displays resources totally and completely compatible with ResEdit, but not EVNEW. Which brings me somewhere else: Aprosenf, if possible you should include the ability to edit DITL and DLOG resources in EVNEW. These are what controls the location of the various "windows" and the components thereof. If you edit, say, the Spaceport DITL so that it has all the buttons on top, it will replace the arrangement in Nova.rez (it's contained in EV Nova itself in the Mac version; Nova.rez is a conversion of EV Nova for Mac's resources). The DLOG resource can make the size, shape, and postition of the dialog. So, you could make it a tall rectangle on the right, or you could make it a long one at the top. How do you think the EVO for EVN port worked? 🙂

    • All that stuff from log.txt that you posted has nothing to do with the current issue. Those warnings came when you tried to open up Nova.rez, and since then, no loggable errors popped up. orca, that's easier said than done. If you're making a TC with EVNEW and you absolutely must change the dialogs, get a friend to do it for you on a Mac. lotsofblackflags, have you tried searching your hard drive for the files? Try opening up C:Documents and SettingsYour user nameLocal SettingsTemp, and look for files of the name "PICT #", where # is a number. Let me know if you find any such files. If you're having difficulty exporting images, you can always just hit Print Screen and paste it into a new image. If you're just trying to copy the picts into new plugins, you can just Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V the resources from the main resource list.

    • Also as a workaround, try saving the plugin as a .txt - this will make EVNEW export all the graphics to one folder, hopefully where you tell it to (also check C:). This may or may not work, concidering that you are experiencing a machine spesific bug with EVNEW.
Has anyone else with WinME made EVNEW work? WinME was propably the worse OS microsoft ever made, which is saying alot. Interestingly, as proof of the "Things have to get worse before they get better" philosophy, the next version of windows, WinXP was possibly the best.

    • I don't know if it makes any difference, but I thought I'd mention that my free-stuff files are formatted for EV/EVO, and might be missing a little bit of data that EVN looks for. It's never caused a problem on a Mac, but I don't know what it would do over the conversion. Actually, I'm not sure at all what the differences are. If someone does a successful conversion of all my site's files to whatever the EVNEW format is, I'd be happy to host a windows-specific file set. But again, I'm fairly uninformed on that side of things, and don't even know if it's necessary.

They convert just fine for me. Just ran em though the windows converter, and EVNEW opened em no problems.

I know. I was merely pointing out that it was another feature that might prove useful, and that some people might appreciate it. Basically, just giving an idea for a feature, that's all.

    • Well, Onyx´s shizzle worked just fine on my laptop, so I think this is an OS bug. I am going to upgrade in a little while, so I will get XP then. I am at school right now, so I will try your suggestions when I get home. Thanks a lot for the help, and Apronsef- I love you.

    • Okay. I tried saving it into a text file.
It automatically made a folder which was supposed to hold my photos. Alas, when I opened it up, it wasn't there.
This really bothers me. How am I supposed to plug stuff?

    • Well I've given you a few suggestions on things to check, but you haven't said anything about those. Re-read my above posts. Also, this might sound stupid, but you are using back slashes, not forward slashes, right?

    • I have no such problems on WinXP though I find it annoying that I can't select more than 1 resource at a time. You should add multiple selection to make things go faster... when you have 100 systems to edit, it takes longer to open, edit, close, open, edit, close... it would be easier to open all 100 in 1 shot, edit them 1 by 1, closing them as needed. Deleting hundreds of resources at the same time or copy/pasting hundreds of resources would be alot easier too, something I'm prone to doing often in my current Wing Commander TC (Wich sports over 800 unique systems!)

      Thanks in advance 🙂

For doing things like this, try saving the plugin as a text file, and then opening it in Excel or similar, editing, and then reimporting with EVNEW.

As for deleting hundreds of resouces, try holding down the delete key.

    • Just to let you know:

It doesn't import graphics, either, and since I recently started helping an upcoming TC, that is very annoying. I shall destroy Bill Gates,(url="http://"http://img14.photobucket.com/albums/v42/lotsofblackflags/bill-gates.jpg") that bastard(/url)

Apronsef: is there anything you can do?

      Here's what the log said:

      Quote

    • Finally, that tells me something! That first posting from log.txt must have been taken after you opened Nova.rez but before you attempted to export some graphics. Is your username an administrator on your computer? If not, then I think Windows might be getting in the way, since EVNEW uses the system temporary file folder. See if you can open up C:Documents and SettingsyourusernameLocal SettingsTemp . This isn't the first time someone's had this issue with the temporary files. I guess I'll have to change this behavior sometime in the future.
