    • Asteroid Miners

I've noticed that when using Nova Tools, there are two check boxes: Destroys asteroids, and scoops up debris. The asteroid miner has these checked, and mines, but is there any way for these, or a similar effect to continue upon hiring? That way you could have purpose built asteroid super miners in a plug, much better suited than the standard, which you could take to a good system and just get them mining!
You lot seem to be unnatural geniuses(sp) at this kind of stuff, so how would it work?

      Pah!

    • if I remember correctly, asteroid miners automically start mining once they enter a system, even when they are escorts.

      ------------------
      Have a nice day.

    • I haven't had mine work, but I'll check.

      Edit: Nope, no such luck

Edit2" Random swearword I forgot I was on my cube, not my dual G5, I'm runnin 1.0.1, which is probably the problem

    • No, I don't think you can have escort miners mining for you...

I'm wondering however... that perhaps a mission can give you escorts which destroys asteroids, but not scoops them up, thus helping you mining...

Assuming it hasn't changed from EVC/O, the escorts' cargo can always be controlled.

Actually, it kinda is. You can control their cargo, but if their ship blows up, then sayonara, cargo.

    • From EVN Beta History, 1.0.0b4:

      Quote

      - asteroid miners don't mine when they are escorts

      From EVN Beta History, 1.0.0b3:

      Quote

      - escorts can hold cargo from the player's asteroid mining now too

So, the answer to the question is....no.

    • Ugh, no, that's not what I asked. What I'm asking is if your escort has a scoop, and the 'collects asteroid debris' flag is set, if THE ESCORT runs over the debris, will it pick it up? I'm not a ****ing moron, and I know that escorts hold your excess cargo. That's been around forever, and was kind of the original point of escorts in EV.

    • I was answering the first person's question, not yours. Now for yours:

Most outfits that come equipped with ships don't have any effect when they are on AI ships (however, there are a few that do). Outfits that don't have effects on AI ships often have equivalent flags for the ship/govt resources that allow you to emulate those effects (for example, built-in fuel regeneration instead of reactors, cloaking flags instead of the cloaking outfit, inherent jamming abilities instead of jammers, etc.). From that, I would say that asteroid scoops fall into the same category, and they won't work on AI ships unless the behavior is enabled (by checking the scoop asteroids flag), and the behavior doesn't work when the ship is your escort.

Of course, the only way to be sure is to test this behavior.

Now for my question: will the behaviour work for misn or aux ships? That is, will they mine? (the scooping is not wanted)

I think there's a Polaris mission where a Zephyr does just that. You have to observe it trying out its weapons. I would surmise from that that it works for mission ships.

    • Engla: Yes. Also, somebody found that if you set the mines asteroids flag in a system with no asteroids, the AI behaves strangely. It's like a whole other AI type. I could be wrong, but I think it makes them fly between the planets in a system constantly, but I can't remember very well.

    • If you really want you could make (or edit) systems so that you can target asteroids when you have an asteroid miner. To target them you could try to make them ships with the asteroid model and then once they got mad at you your escourts would attack or when you pressed "F". To make them only be able to move straight, give them the lowest turn rate possible and then they have no choice(just dont make them inertialess). To make them get knocked off course, make themm low mass. BUT im not sure how to make them change course.

      GOOD LUCK!!!

But how would you mine them? Blowing up a ship does not drop commodities. Also, the 'roids would show up as pissed on your radar. Plus, you would have a limited number of them in the system.
