    • Members of this board:

I've been looking around the past few weeks and I've been seeing more new faces (well, new text on the screen, anyway.. 🙂 ) and I think in order to keep this cool community together, we should all sort of introduce ourselves.. who we are, what projects we're working on, etc.

I only say that because it seems that we've got a whole bunch of cool, dedicated people here and I'd like to more about you all..

I'm Bomb, obviously.. I'm a mod here and on the EVO board and I've completed four plug-ins for EVO: ROTV I and II, plus two different separate versions of F-25. My only current project is tweaking the new version of F-25.

I'm majoring in screenwriting at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst but I'm home for the summer bumming around, trying to make some money.

      peace all,

    • Ah, it's about time we had such a topic here...

Most of you probably know me already - I've been hanging around ASW since before the UBB forums were added and joined back in 2000 under the username "Ares Sniper V" (or something like that ;)). After I started developing 2D graphics in PS and was first introduced to the 3D world in 2001 by folks at the Image Gallery, I threw together a website and started providing plugin resources. Ever since then I've become quite fond of my task in this community and enjoy a serious addiction to 3D modelling and "customer service". 😄

I've been playing EV since it was released in 96 and wasn't too impressed with Override. I'm also a beta tester for EV: Nova.

Currently I'm finishing up high school (here at home - never been to a school in my life :p) and hope to pursue a career in 3D graphics and web design. I'm trying to get a start with a job here in the Nova community where I'm open to working on plugin projects for good rates (doing graphics). I've gotta replace a junky 350mhz iMac sooner or later, no? Heh.

Anyway, 'nuff said. It's great hanging out here.

      Live long and prosper.

    • I agree, we're definitely in need of such a topic.

As most of you now know with the recent release, I'm writing EVONE, a graphical plugin editor for all three games. I also run my website, (url="http://"http://www.ariossoftware.com")http://www.ariossoftware.com(/url), and like to answer some of the more technical questions (programming related, etc) that are sometimes posted around here. I've been hanging around here since 1999, but I didn't register for a while and still rarely post. Also, before you think Arios is some huge monolith coming to take over editor market, realize its not even a real company, just a name, and its (so far) just me 🙂 🙂

I'll be entering the last year of high-school in September and have been looking at Dartmouth, Swarthmore, Princeton, and some others. We'll see 🙂

    • Who: I’m Arturo (duh)

What: an unemployed Silicon-Valley engineer with beaucoup programming experience (everything from assembly language to hardware compilers)

Where: typing to you from my hovel high in the wildwood of the coastal range mountains of California.

When: I started muckin’ around with EV:N when it was first released and have released a plug and guide, but have developed many more that never left home. I’m currently updating my ShipyardUpgrades106 plug from its 105 version that was uploaded but never posted (at my request). Release is imminent.

How: with my trusty 300 MHz PowerBook G3 with 320 MB of RAM and a broken hinge (plus an original MacIntosh 128K and a Mac SE/30, both collecting dust)

Why: Well, I tried EV and EVO (got ‘em off a MacAddict CD) but couldn’t seem to really get into it. Then when EV:N came out the game sort of grabbed me, and then I really got hooked on the control-freak thing of tweaking the resource files to suit my warped sense of what’s right.

What else: I don’t post as much as many folks, but I do read almost everything (the good, bad, and outrageous) on the Nova and Developer’s boards.

      Have fun out there people!

    • Great idea Bomb.

I go by Kame (Kah-meh) on and off-line. I'm still reletively new here. Most of my time on the boards is due to me avoiding all the work that piles up on my desk. I think I'm one of the few people here that isn't in school. After high school I did drafting work for one of the best architectual engineering firms in the world and currently I get a steady pay check by doing graphic design for printed advertising throughout southwest Colorado and New Mexico. During the winter I scrounge out a living by teaching snowboarding to every level and age. I've been doing web design since 1998 and rarely maintain my own site at (url="http://"http://0three0.net")030(/url). I've only released one major plug, (url="http://"http://0three0.net/l-1551/ronin.html")Ronin(/url) but am currently working on a new one.

On the more personally side, I like to drive, snowboard, play music, train bonsai, practice martial arts, backpack, study philosophy and the nature of God/Tao, and take photographs. I've been snowboarding since 1989 and I'm currently training hard to earn my Black Belt in Chinese Kenpo by August.

    • I'll hop on the bandwagon. I don't really feel I merit a post in a topic like this yet, but what the hay.

I'm currently 22, and a 5th year Computer Engineering student at Cal Poly, SLO. Ever since I was a very small kid, before I even had a video game system, I'd look at the arcade games and say- "I want to make my own!" So I worked at it. I taught myself Pascal and Hypercard in 6th grade, moved to C in Junior high and haven't looked back. I got EV a few weeks after it came out and a friend showed it to me. Within a day I had my first plug in complete. I've made EV stuff for years, and always prided myself on twisting it to do things it shouldn't, but I was never really 'into' the internet for a long, long time, and never posted anything. My brother finally introduced me to webboards a little before I registered here, but this is the only place I post- not even on the Nova board usually. I come around here quite often, though and read everything, mostly when my brain is feeling twisted and weary from working on SS!

Currently, my biggest hobby is working on Sephil Saga, though I'd like to believe it's Barefoot and slalom waterskiing. I also like riding streetbikes (even though I've been through 2 major accidents in the last 8 months), bonsai, martial arts- particularly kendo, and reading philosophy. I'm definately an Asian culture buff, but I'm not into the more 'nerdy' stuff like Anime (that's my brothers life/trip). I live with my GF of a year now, and our two dogs. I work at an engineering firm that builds industrial controllers as a tech, and as an engineer once I graduate (hopefully next June, please please please....).

My greatest goal right now is to get that first karma point. If it takes completing SS to get it, then that's what I'm going to do!

    • Hey, all!

I am SpacePirate, a developer of several years, but only a few years here. I do 3D work, programming, web design, and just about anything else computer related you can think of. I am working on a plugin by myself, Gundam, a TC I have been thinking about since the last EVO days, and actually got started when EVN was released. Work goes fast at some times, and not at all at others, but progress is being made. 🙂 Besides Gundam, I am working on several other TCs, some of which are dying, and others are going well. I also did the unofficial EV/O ports, which was actually just a byproduct of SpacePort, now an EV/EVO converting plugin for EVONE.

My most recent project is an extensive guide to developing plugins, which is currently under development at EV-Nova.net/forums, in the Development section. We plan to have this out as soon as possible, and make it an ever expanding guide to the EV universe. I'll have the link in my sig once it's presentable. 😉

As for the personal stuff, I live south of DC, and am currently about to enter my senior year of high school. I am taking cisco networking courses in high school, and have no idea what I am going to do in college, or where I am going to go. 😛 I work on a variety of computers, ranging from a Performa 6400 to a dual 1Ghz G4, and a PC every now and then.

If you haven't seen me post, that is most likely because I am in the habit of not posting, unless I have something useful to add. Like Arios, I prefer technical discussions, but will answer some other ones if I'm in the mood. 😉

      See you guys around!

    • As per Bomb's request, here's a bit about me:

I'm pipeline. I co-developed EV Nova for a company called ATMOS Software. While I no longer work there, I still help maintain Nova, and love the community that's sprung up around it.

I know Nova pretty well inside out, and can occassionally pull off some decent graphics, too. If you need advice about making stuff or working stuff out, I'd be glad to offer what help I can.

I'm afraid I'm too busy resting and regaining my sanity right now to do any actual development work, but I'll sure try and answer any questions you may have!

It's a pleasure to be here. Back to you, Bomb!

    • I'll jump in here as well. I am, clearly, Russell Quintero, both on the boards and in the real world. I have a dislike for what the anonymity of online nicknames does to people's behaviour, and happen to love being me and am therefore quite insistent on coming across as myself. This is also why I will yell at you if you misspell it. "Russ" is acceptable for the lazy, "Russel" is not.

That out of the way, come fall I will be a third year physics student at Colorado State University in Fort Collins. I am a Nuclear Officer Candidate in the Navy, which is how I make ends meet, pay for college, my car and my computer. I am the Vice-President of my chapter of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity, which is how I pass the time not spent on school or the EV community. Around here I moderate the B&B; and the EV board and prowl about in the EVDC and the Image Gallery, although I am not an artist. I am currently working on a TC of my own that started as an idea bouncing around in my head in the days of EV, circa 1.0.3.

The reason you may not have seen me around much lately is that since early May I have been travelling. From Colorado to California to Hawaii to Guam to Japan to Korea, and come early August I will be going to Indiana, Delaware, and then Hungary.

    • For some reason this sounds like an EV Developers Anonymous kinda thing. 😉

Eh? Me? A 17 year old kid, busy as ever with job, and the fast-moving lifestyle of the Alaska summer tourist season. Currently more involved with more important things, like real life, but come nights I usually find myself modeling starship for my TC.

I'm currently looking at either a Electrical Engineering, or Business Admin majors to go into after my senior year. I was for a time considering computer graphics, but I lack the skill to do extremely advanced modeling.

I work best at graphics probably. Though that's not saying much. My story-writing and universe-creating skills come in close second. That said, the power is running low on my iBook. C'ya l8r.

    • Hi,

I'm Entarus and I have been arround for almost a year now. Altought I'm not as dedicated as some people arround here (I only post if I feel I can contribute something to the topic) I do enjoy reading these boards everyday and posting once in a while. I was working on my major plug-in (not a TC) EVN : Invasion , but that has been put on hold for several months due to the fact that I could no longer contact the other member of my team , has was however recently re-appeared so I might pick up work again soon. I know all the Nova resources pretty well but I'm not good with 3D.

I live in Belgium and I'm currently in highschool.

    • Hello,
Im from Birmingham in the UK. Im 16 and have just left Secondary school, and I might be going to college soon. I first found EV a few years ago and was an avid fan of EV:0, playing on my dad's very old G2 or something like that powerbook. When my dad's laptop got stolen I was in dismay until the Insurance company gave us money to by a shiny new G4 powerbook, so we got that around christmas and I dug out my Ambrosia CD 5, and noticed a link to there website on it. When saw the Nova screenshots, I just had to get it.

Im relatively new to these forums, and at the moment I am still in the thinking and planning stages of a TC for Nova, I haven't got anything done on the computer yet, apart from a few station and ship Graphics. I'm not holding out to much hope of getting it finished, but you never know.

So, i'm a student, and live in France, near Paris.
I've been playing Ambrosia games for a long time, but i discovered these board just last september, with EV:Nova.
I then have been trying to understand how Nova work, while working in my highschool.
Finally, i 've created and released my first fully working plug no long ago (Outfits Enabler).
Now, i'm working on a mission adding plug (Mission Expansion) with two other persons, a TC (Omple) (we're creating the team, actually), and a list of all used resources in Nova.
My next plug will be a storyline about the mystery of Kont.

    • I can see this topic getting outrageously large.

As for me, I have been playing the escape velocity series for quite a while, and have attempted several quite major plugins for them all - I'm working on 3114 at the moment and so far so good. I have been coming and going on the boards for a while now, and just recently I have really enjoyed visiting the developers board and getting advice help and everything else that happens here.

I'm 18, finished school, having a good time doing nothing with my life, hoping to go into graphic design and sell my soul to the advertising industry.

Oh yeah, and I am going bald quicker than rabits multiply.

    • Well, in the spirit of community:

I'm John Mietus, a graphic designer in west central Illinois (about 5 hours away from Chicago, 3.5 hours away from St. Louis, and 2 hours away from the Quad Cities). I've been playing the EV games since I got the original off a Mac Addict CD back in '96 or '97, and have lurked in the EV community, working on my own unreleased projects, until Nova was nearly released. While I loved EV, I never really got into EVO; Nova, on the other hand, captured me immediately and hasn't let go. I'm turning 40 this November, making me, I believe, one of the oldest people in the EV/O/N community. My other hobbies include writing swashbuckling fantasy novels (unpublished to date) and comedy, community theatre, vampire LARP, RPGs, and avoiding my wife's wrath.

At the moment, I'm trying to finish up Starfleet Adventures, a classic-to-movie-era Star Trek TC for Nova (the first alpha build has been in testers' hands for about two weeks now, and progress on the next alpha build is progressing smoothly if slowly -- I hope to have a public beta available by the Fall). I've also agreed to develop the map and create spöb graphics for the Pundit/Denb/Admiral Benden's Star Wars TC -- mostly because I have a thing about keeping everything as canon as possible, and I really want that plug released.

Starfleet Adventures came from (originally) a desire to create a more canon map for the Star Trek EVO plug, the desire to see a decent Star Trek plug actually get finished for any of the EV/O/N incarnations (it was clear to me early on that the Star Trek Escape Velocity Project was doomed to vaporware), and to (initially) teach myself how to make plugs for Nova (as I said, I'd messed around with some unreleased stuff for EV and EVO -- nothing serious, nothing worth releasing). It's grown beyond the scope of my original idea, is extremely and overly ambitious, and, I'm happy to say, nearing releasability.

After that, I have an idea for an original TC project that will be much less grand in scope and much more tightly plotted and designed that I've been mulling in my head since the early days of EV (Nova made it feasible), as well as a few other smaller projects that I may do just to excise them from my head. It's my hope, once SFA is finished, to focus some major attention on developing my 3D modeling skills.

Why do people keep mentioning G2's? There's no such thing. By the look of it, your computer has a 604e processor, which was the predecessor of the G3 but was at no point referred to as a G2. 😛

      As for me...

I'm Max Smethurst, and I go by Mazca on the Internet for reasons that I have long since forgotten. I first came to the EV boards in early '97 I believe, but I didn't post very regularly until Override came out in '98.

In early 1999 I set up the EV Developer's Board, a WWWBoard focused solely on plugin development and moderated by myself and blackhole. It was well-received due to the frivolous nature of the old DiscBoard EV/O forums. In January 2000, andrew set up this forum on the new system without knowing about my currently existing one. After I whined at him in the immature style I was known for at the time, he graciously made me and blackhole moderators here, and here we are today. 🙂

I'm not doing much development at the moment, as I've become rather bored of my EV:O TC, The Resurgence. I keep telling myself I need to spend more time fiddling with Nova to properly master the new ncb system, so I may well do some of that this summer. I have no artistic skill that can be applied to plug making, so I hold myself to doing coding, writing and fiddling with plugs.

As far as hobbies go, I run a website full of random images ( (url="http://"http://www.mazca.com")http://www.mazca.com(/url) ) and sit on my arse doing as little as possible.

    • I'm mrxak. It's not meant to be pronounced, so don't bother. Shortening it is a no-no. Anyway, I'm a moderator here and on the Uplink forum. I was "around" back in 1996 or 1997 in terms of EV, but I never got involved with the discboard or whatever. I did enjoy (url="http://"http://www.escape-velocity.com")www.escape-velocity.com(/url) quite a bit though. I've been developing plug-ins since pretty much the beginning, but never bothered to release any of them for EV or EVO. I didn't get involved in the community until I heard about Nova. Anyway, I've only released on plug-in, (The Challenge), just to show how much the new Nova features can kick ass. Your ass, specifically :). Anyway, my current project is a TC for Nova, which I have not named yet. I still view it as early development stage, although it is technically playable now. Hopefully you'll see me around here quite a bit, but my summer job has begun, and it's likely to bleed away my time more and more until I'm gone completely for several weeks. I'll be back here "full-time" in August though.
