    • Just starting out...

Hello all. I'm about to register and I have a few questions:

      1. On a scale of one to ten, how much is it worth it to register. I'm going to assume almost everyone here will say 10 or more, but I'm just curious. I'll register no matter what.

      2. I'm stuck on a very early mission, the Ghost Swamp/General Rescue mission. I've tried it twice so far, and both times, I was hideously unprepared. How much health should I acquire, what provisions should I get my hands on, and equipment should I bring? Minimum requirements, please.

      3. About how far in the game can I get before I register? All of my current missions (Ooh, in this game they're "quests", that's right. Too much EV.) involve going places I can't get, mainly Gwydon Camp. How long do I have before the monotony begins?

Thanks in advance for any helpful responses!

    • Very cool, Rawzer is here! Now we can... erm... do stuff which involves Rawzer... and um... anyways:

      1. I'd give it an 8.5 Very very fun game which lasts a long time,a nd afterwards, it has plugin support! The only downsides on the game are the fact you can only make plugins with Coldstone which has a 50$ price tag. (And it doesn't work on Windows!
:frown:) Other than minor rants like repetitive music, the game is great.

      2. Can't help you there. Haven't even gotten there. We keep wiping our harddrive, I lose interest in the game, my interest kicks up later, we wipe the drive.

      3. Well, I really don't know, but I'm guessing the demo is pretty short because I hadn't gotten my character very far when we wiped our harddrive last. (Actually, it was just my files) My dad copied all my files before wiping it though, and when I tried playing my PoG file on the unregistered PoG (Unregistered since we cleaned it, I just got an e-mail with my new code and ohur ago thouh. ;)) and it said I had gone too far for the demo. I had gotten 1 or 2 screens south of Fantrima and 3 or 4 screens south.

Well, I hope my unnneccesarily long answer which really only provided one answer which was of opinion somehow in a distant manner helped! :morerolleyeyesfun!:

Edit: Oh yeah, forgot to mention, you can't get past Gwyden Camp without registering. (Although Lit Nerd beat me to it)

      1. Ten because you must register to beat the game.
      2. I usually start that mission with about 80 health points, and 10 to 15 health potions (the 80 gold, 80 health ones) because you encounter a fairly strong creature (for that point in the game) in the bowels of the cave. Try using a DriveTran (sp.?) Short Sword and a good shield from Fantrima (sp.?). A good bow can be a help as well; then you could use a modified Monty Python, run away, aim, fire: Run away, aim, fire. Take potions as needed.
      3. You can only get to Gwydon (sp.?) Camp and points beyond if registered.

As most of the creatures are undead your armor means diddly. If you are having problems dealing with them I would recommend two things: Undead protection and health potions. You can purchase items that give you undead protection at any of the blacksmiths I believe.

You've pretty much found the limits. You can get to the square just south Of Gwyden Camp, but you can't get to Gwyden Camp. You can rescue the General in the Ghost Swamp but you can proceed no further in the Knight's Quest.

As to the learning tree quests you can complete the quests up to rebuilding the bridge over the Tarsos river. In order to rebuild this you need to get to Gwyden Camp which you need to register to be able to do.

    • Okay, armor means nothing... yowch. I'm up to 31 armor right now, but only 75 health. I have a Drivatan Long Sword, but I'm thinking about ditching the shield for a Drivatan Claymore, especially since armor doesn't matter much. Damn, I spent so much money on it too!

Undead protection from the Fantrima Blacksmith? I doubt it. All he sells is armor and weapons. What item should I look for?

Again, thanks (especially for that map page. I'd been to the walkthrough several times for reference, but it doesn't get very detailed.) everyone!

    • There is undead protection in the Berglum blacksmith in the following items (info from the .pdf of all items in PoG and Trinity):
Holy Cloak (armor, costs 1000 gold adds 10 stamina)
Claymore of Light (2 handed sword, costs 1500)
and from the Divine Lamp, which replaces a shield and check the aforementioned Walkthrough for how to get it.

Before you ditch all your armor remember that that cave isn't the only thing in PoG! It is well that you have a few different "outfits" until you are strong enough to take a beating: one for undead and one for living creatures.

Also, in my opinion I prefer to upgrade weapons and then armor. With a better weapon I'm not going to be in combat as long and thus be less likely to take damage. And finally: learn how to block with your shield! This will save you much money from buying potions.

    • Yeah, I'm starting to get the hang of block/attacking, as well as running as fast as my legs will take me. 🙂

I've recently discovered Dernath, but where's Berglum? Would the walkthrough tell me?

Edit: according to the Walkthrough, I can't get there yet. Oh well.
Edit II: forgot to fix "Dergath"

Isn't there some sort of limit to how much you can carry? I've never met one but I always assumed there'd be one.

Nope. One has to assume that the hero either has a caddy with a weapon cart or very broad shoulders to be able to support 35 sets of armor, 15 swords, a medicine cabinet full of healing potions, assorted caps and daggers picked up from fallen foes, and the list goes on. As Stark said earlier, it is wise in the first part of the game to have various pieces of equipment for different situations. When your strength improves sufficiently, it makes little difference what you wear. 😄 ~RD

    • Update:

Well, I had 85 health, 34 armor, and 11 healing potions (+80) going in. I came out victorious (for once) with 4 potions, and 30 something health. I ran and ran and ran out of that swamp, made it back to Sebtremis (sp?), saved it, and decided to explore that cave 1 screen N of Fantrima. I was doing well, until the third mindhunter killed me. Maybe when I start up the game again I'll save Dernath, if I can. I'm still within the legal limit of using the game, but if I don't register soon, it'll get boring anyway!

I was wondering if this is because my PoG isnt registered yet, which I'm planning to do. anyways, thanks.

Congrats, Monk! You've run into the OS X saving problem :). Go (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/webboard/Forum61/HTML/001182.html#")here(/url) for suggestions on how to get around this problem. Or you could search and come up with at least three or four of the same sort of question. Good luck!

Gah, I really need to get the troubleshooting section of the Walkthrough updated with this bug and its workaround...

    • Guess what? New question!

This is pretty much exactly the same as the original question about the Ghost Swamp, but now it's the cyclopses (cyclopss, cyclopsi?). How much health? How many potions? Minimum again, please. If you'd like to know, I have all of the very best armor you can buy in Fantrima (totalling 32 without shield, 37 with), a Drivatan Long Sword, and a Drivatan Claymore (mmm... instant goblin death...).

      Again, thanks a bunch!

Start stocking your medicine cabinet with lots of health potions. You can go in and knock off a few and retreat back out again, because with 'quest' creatures they don't rise from the dead like the phoenix when your back is turned. There are 10 cyclopes (that's the plural of cyclops) in the square. Kill 3 and there are 7 left, unlike the square above it which has 6 wyrms, kill 3 and when you go back there a 6 left. If you get your game registered, there is better equipment to be had in Berglum. You asked for minimum requirements and that's hard to answer because a lot depends on the skill of the person at the keyboard for blocking and striking at the right times. Knowing when to gulp a health potion helps too. Save your game as often as you can to avoid having to kill the same creatures several times. Of course you cannot save in the middle of a battle, but if you do knock off some, retreat north out of the range of those remaining, save, and go at it again. That way, if you do get killed by one you still have a few pelts hanging from your belt. I hope that helps. ~RD

Don't get me started on that. Just think of all the money Beenox saved by not hiring a proofreader. Some of the dialogue boxes make me cringe.

And just for the sake of spreading a little erudition around tonight, Cyclopes is pronounced si-KLO-peas, whereas the singular is SI-klops. There, now you all know. There will be a short quiz after you defeat the Guardian. 🙂 ~RD
