    • Nova: High Seas


      I have had this idea since EV, but I never had the recources and EV has never been capable to the fullest effect. Anyway, the idea would be to convert everything from space to sea. The planets would become Islands, the background would become blue, stars to waves(or something), asteroids to Icebergs and whatever other rubble you wanted. I thought I would post, and check back in a day or so to see if anyone likes the idea.

      I don't think that's possible without some serious hacking (or cleverness).

    • Wow, I didn't know that was being developed, but I ment more of a modern type combat. Like battleships and cruisers and aircraft carriers, you could have lots of fun makeing an oil tanker into an aircraft carrier. I think I said though that I couldn't make graphics, and would need them. I'd also need helpers to develop things, I never get plugs done by myself.

    • Well, on the plus side with Nova, you can have ships that like stand-off attacks. They won't charge straight at each other and pass through each other. Boarding is still an issue though.

      I'll probably use point defense weapons as a sort of bumper thingy. (repels your ship when it fires) shrugs Whatever.

      Yes, an invisible, fast-firing point defense weapon would be pretty good for that. Would you make the weapon damageless (just an impact) or would you make it damage the ship (like they crashed)?

      I think the problem of having to go on top when boarding ships is insurmountable, though. Oh, well, as you say, 'tis just a game.

    • Well, if you used a rapid firing point defence weapon, wouldn't it blow up the disabled ship before you got on top of it? And if so, could we make it so you could board from the side? I still wonder if anyone cares about a more modern sea war version, and if so, I can't make models and would need help...

      Another idea: is it possible to have the ships turrets turn to fire on their opponent? Like with a battleship, have the guns accually turn on the enemy?
      Just an idea, though it would be cool.

      Really the reason I'm persuing this is more out of interest as to how far the game engine can be pushed. It may be "impossible", but you should always try.

      It would be cool if I could make it do more damage depending on the armor status. You know, the weaker the ship, the more damage it takes per hit. If that's not possible, then it'll be a turreted short range damageless PD weapon, although how the AI will handle it when they are trying to board... some weird setbacks. Ah well, AI will of course be AI.

      No, but you can have the muzzle flashes. There is an option in the shรคn called "weapon," see the Federation destroyers.

      Edit: on the other hand, you could use the "unfold to fire" option, but that's the closest thing you can get. The Asteroid Miner uses it.

    • Now all I need is someone who will help by making graphics, and maybe a few people to help with other stuff. Or I could just submit ideas and designs for the ships and stuff and have someone else do everything.

    • Considering that when ships colide they do damage, you could use a weapon as incentive not to go on top of each other.

    • The trouble with an invisible, short range PD laser is that it would hit enemies either inside the ship or outside of it, because a ship isn't round and a weapons firing range is. Another problem is that the PD weapon would only fire on enemies. Also, this would mean that a few fishing boats could suicide into a galleon and destroy it while trying to be fighters, and that would suck. I thing that you will just have to let ships overlap and hope noone cares.

    • I was also thinking that you would quickly make enemies with the friendly forces around you. You ram a ship and(even if the thing does no damage) the locals are up in arms.
      Still need pictures or an idea of how to make them if I'm going to get this done.
