    • TO ALL EV NOVA ADD-ON MAKERS!

Do I have your permission to sell your add-on(s) on CD-ROM to people around the contnentle (I don't know how to spell it) United States just for the price of the CD-ROM and shipping. I would not be making any money. I will also contact all of the EV Nova add-on authors by e-mail. Thank you!

    • What would be the value of such a CD, when the add-on files are readily available from their webpage here at the ASW site?

Is it even legal to sell plugs anyway?

If you had the owner's permission, I don't see why not; however, why would anyone bother to pay for it when they could be easily downloaded from this website? Also, it's longstanding tradition that plugs are free to download, since you've already paid for EV/EVO/EVN. The idea has been raised in years previous that plugin quality could be increased if the authors were being paid, but the ability to enforce such a payment system is virtually nonexistant, and there's no guarantee of higher quality.

    • I just figured that Ambrosia might be a bit mad if some kid was making money off of their game (sort of). It's indirect, and he claims he won't take a profit, but...

    • I think what mrxak is asking may be whether it is legal for the creator of a plug-in to charge for it. If so, then the answer is yes, with the proviso that if the plug-in contains material which belongs to Ambrosia, then (and only then) Ambrosia would have the right to stop them, and the same is true of copyright material belonging to other parties.

Whether it would actually be profitable to charge for a plug-in is another question entirely.

I should also point out to DannyFloyd411 that if any developer does not respond to his request for permission, he must take that as a denial of permission unless permission is explicitly granted in the software's accompanying materials.

    • Danny Floyd, this is a recurring sugestion and idea, and some folks with slower connections respond positively. I myself don't really care either way, but I think that any effort like this should be done in conjunction with Ambrosia. Furthermore, dont ask to sell people's add-ons, ask if people would mind you distributing a nova add-on cd for the price of production and shiping. Still this endevor should be done with Ambrosia's permision 9and preferably guidence and support). But the fact is that there does not exist now enough nova add-ons to make such an effort worthwile. Wait until a good number of massive expansion and TC plugins become available. Right now, must of the available plugins are small enough for everyone to download, and many are stuill under constant revision. It would be best to wait untill larger plugins are available.

Agreed. I can't see why anyone would pay for access to the add-ons directory on CD at this point - there aren't very many serious plug-ins, and those that do exist are small enough that few people would have trouble downloading them.

    • Hrm... I'm posting here for two reasons:
      1. No, I do not care if you sell my plug if it is on a disk with other plugs and you don't make more than 1$ per copy off it.
      2. I, having a cable modem, have a rather hard time seeing the value to people(like myself) who would accually buy the disk, they probably bought cable or would instead buy cable modem(s) already. Though I'm going with jdh545 and David Arthur on this one, you should wait a very long time before making an attempt.

Oh, you do have a cable modem don't you? I'd hate to think you were downloading all those (sometimes large) plugs on a 56k.

      Meeoowwwww

    • HEY!

      i downloaded ev nova on a 56k!
it took 10 hours at 2.4k/sec but it was worth it!

so stop making fun of 56k modems!
(i would get cable but i live at least 100km away from the nearest cable source)

      does sattelite dish internet suck?
(like, could i play d2 or starcraft or war3(i can't wait) over it?)

    • your 56k modem downloads 2.4k/sec.
my 33.6k modem downloads at 3.2k/sec.

      ?????

      ------------------

    • correction 28.8k modem (not 33.6k)

I know, it's sad, but I can live with it.

      ------------------

    • Satelite sucks, latency is terrible (often over 1 second). Gaming is impossible. Speed is decent sometimes, but atmospheric conditions play hell with it, and it is relitively expensive to boot.
      Joe

      ------------------

    • I'll go ahead and wait some time, but should I contact Ambrosia now, or then?

And no, I don't have a cable modem...I have a DSL modem...or was it an ADSL modem? Oh well.

    • Now that this matter is almost cleared up, I won't contact the add-on authors by e-mail later. If you don't want me harrasing you like that...post it here.

I have a 56K modem and have downloaded about thirteen complete copies of EV Nova, plus many more incremental updates, and none of them have ever taken more than about five hours.

You aren't going to contact them by email? So, you're only going to include plug-ins by people who have said yes here?
