    • infini-d, where is it?

Hello there, some friends and I am currently working on making a plug-in for EV. We have been making our own graphics for it, so far they have turned out great, but we find it quite time consuming to use mechanisto. Everyone I have talked to used or uses Infini-D to make their ships and sprites. Where can I find this program, either to buy or download? Thanks.

    • Infinidy has been discontinued. You have to find someone who wants to get ride of it, and is willing to sell it to you. You can pirate, but that's stealing and not cool.

    • Oh ok, I had thought that it was discontinued, thanks for the clarification. Yeah, stealing=bad.
Does anyone have any suggestions for a different graphics program that makes good graphics, other than Mechanisto and Infini-D? Thanks.

    • I have been looking for infini-d for mac for a while, too. I have found that unless you are extremely lucky and willing to spend several hundred dollars, you are not going to find it. One on EBay right now is available, but a reserve is set at $150.

I am not thinking about pirating it, because that is bad, but is it the same if the product was discontinued? Especially if people don't use it to make money for themselves. I mean, it's like stealing something from a trash can of which there are infinity copies. And people use mechanisto for free because it was abandoned, right? I dunno, the whole issue of morals on this subject is pretty iffy. I wish they would release a statement saying that it was free, so long as you can find it.

    • And I think, in this case, and only in this case, that pirating might be ok. As you said, ares1, it is quite iffy. And towels are useful!(your sig)

    • Pirating is never OK. See if you can get an original. If you're looking for a different program, Cinema 4D XL is really cheap on academic license.

How cheap? I use Strata3D, but it has to be the most buggy program I've ever used.

Pardon? Buggy? I hardly think so. I have never had problems with Strata. It only gets buggy when you allocate too much virtual memory. I had that problem but I bought more physical memory (256Mb) and now it runs very smoothly.

Hundreds might be an exageration, I got mine for $72, but yes, it will be expensive. However, every now and then there has been an older version of Infini-d on eBay, one that went as low as $15 in buy it now. It was, however, version 2.6 or something around there.
Wirehead, are any of your Mechanisto graphics online? If so, I'd love to see them.

    • To answer Azdara Ace, none of my graphics are currently online to download, but I hope to put them up somewhere. Also, is there a place for developers using Mechanisto to post graphics or objects so that others can download them? If there isn't, I think that some of us here on the boards should make a page just for that. Just an idea.

    • Is it still pirating when there is no way you can buy the software? I mean, if they stopped selling it, and the people who made it have dispursed, it's like stealing something of which there are infinity copies from a dead man who cannot sell it to you. The idea that piracy is bad is based on the concept that buy not supporting the developers and their software. But how can you support them if they are no longer accepting support from you? It seems that when you can no longer hurt anybody, the action is not entirely evil.

      I'm not condoning piracy; I'm playing devil's advocate. ๐Ÿ˜›

Actually, you are getting rusty, you canonly download the graphics if you are a registered member, visitors or guests cannot.

regarding ares1's post, I agree to a certain extent. I beleive that if they don't sell it anymore they should offer it for free, but I belive that pirating it is bad. If that makes any sense.
