Do you mind if I make an editor. It will be less buggy then the current editor.
I will make it more eay to use then ResEdit and alot smoother.
      Please make suggestions towards it.

    • Sounds good, from what I've heard already, it wouyld be like a better easier version of Res-Edit, am I right?

Personally, I think it would be useful if you made it easier to ad/re-write sounds. It would also be great if you don't have to insert all the numbers and stuff to determine what is on the planet(outfit, shipyard, etc.)

I think that these would be very important for an editor.

Make it have a mac-like interface. Also use a fast language. Don't use Applescript. Basic is fine, just not great. The best would be python with Tkinter, but there isn't a lot of rsrc support. And, above all: Make it bug-free (or as close as you can). No hard crashes. No crashes. No freezes. And please don't corrupt files.

Basically, what I want is this: A easy to use, fast, small, and stable editor. If you can do that, good for you. I'm also considering making an all-in-one editor, may the best program win!

Also, do you have a name yet? Or an ETA on the dev time? What program are you going to be using? (I'm nosy, sorry )

    • Ahh yes, an editor that is eaasy to navigate and undersand would be awsome, as a lot of editors are rather hard to navigate and understand.

    • See, these almost inevitably vaporware add-ons have improved! First, there were the plug-ins. Then, there was the EVO MP with code hacked from Ares. Now resource editors. Wow 😉 😛

Let's be fair. ResEdit has a lot of limitations and something has to be done. So a lot of RSSC editors should be coming. However it'd be harder to make an RSSC editor than a separate editor. So now we have people trying to make editors. Maybe out of 10 attempts, only 1 comes. Well that's still 1 new editor.

      Erm...how is it limited?

It can do everything any EV Editor can AND MORE. Just becasue it has a difficult interface dosn't make it limited...the easier interface on other editors make them limited (i.e. not being able to name STR and STR# files, sometimes not being able to edit them directly, etc.).

No thats fine. I don't have a name, or any idea when it is released. Very likely to be in before December. I have a lot to learn. It is being written in REALbasic.
      Difficult to edit strings.

One feature I just thought of is the ability to encrypt your finished product so that nosey people can't edit your plug-in.

Go for it. The more people who give it a go and bring in new ideas, the better we'll all be.

I wouldn't suggest that. The one I'm wqorking on is called EVoke.

Sorry, I meant kinda hard to do certain things (like systs, if not for EVO developers map, almost nobody would add systems). I personally use ResEdit for 90% of my work, it's just, I would like to use a really, truly, easy to use all-in-one editor (which is why I'm working on EVoke :D)

It is for both EV and EVO. You can save it as one or the other.

I had a name like 'Saskia' suggested, I like it but to all the Saskias out there I think you would be glad. And I do know someone with that name. She doesn't know me.

      Hmmm...
      I like 'Kife'.

    • I still have not heard as to whether R&R; will transfer their ResEdit editors to my own (general purpose) resource editor program.

Which, by the way, is NOT written in Python, AppleScript, BASIC or any other sissy language.

PPC Build: System 7 to OS X Classic
Carbon Build: MacOS 8.6 to OS X
Cocoa Build: Mac OS X only

:mad :Dude. REALbasic isn't a sissy language, otherwise he would not be using it.

BASIC might be okay, but I think REALBASIC makes bloated apps that are slightly slower than ones made under MPW and/or codewarrior (using C or C++). As a RAD tool, that doesn't really matter, but it kinda pisses me off to waste hard drive space.
