    • Plug-in Tutorials for beginers

I am a beginer at making plug-ins for EV. Does anyone know where I can get a tortorial to help me learn how to make plug-ins? Please help if you can, I am eager to learn! 🙂

      Thanx

    • That's a very good question.

      Check the EV/O Add-ons pages
      (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/ev/addons.html")http://www.ambrosias.../ev/addons.html(/url) (url="http://"http://www.ambrosiasw.com/games/evo/addons.html")http://www.ambrosias...evo/addons.html(/url)

Look under "guides". If one dosn't exist, one should be written. Prehaps I shall begin work on one.

    • If you're using res-edit(which I assume you are), try the Res-Edit Guide.

While there isn't any tutorial that I know of, the Plug-in Developer's FAQs are a darn good introduction to the process.

Just d/l resedit and the bible and plunge into the EVO resources. Open a copy of one of the EVO data files with ResEdit and begin looking around. Copy/paste some of the resources from the game into a copy of the sample plug-in that comes with the EVO bible. Change something like the stats of a ship. Make the Arada really powerful and really cheap. Put your sample plug-in into the plug-ins folder, buy the Arada and wreck havok. Please don't upload it to the add-on files. Make a map that shows you all the systems when you buy it instead of just a few. Fiddle around. That's how everyone else here got started.

    • Thanx for your help all. 🙂

    • Well I was thinking about doing a step by step intro on plug making. Would anyone be interested?

All right then. I'll do it. Should it just be a simple, expansion (introduce the Zoom ship which originates on Zoom-Zoom planet in the Miata system) or a simple TC (the Buffy race battle it out with the Simpsons with Saturday Night Live attacks all)?

    • Just cover all the resources with as much simplicity as possible.

    • Hm, maybe you shouldn't start with res-edit.. it's kinda hard for ppl whou don't know squat about res-edit...
I advise you start with EV-Edit.. GASP
It may be buggy but it will really show you how things kinda work in making a plug...
Plus some new editors are being developped I think .. so help is on the way!

      Arrrrrrr, matey!!!!

    • If you have the time, or the will, or both, I say make a detailed tutorial using ResEdit. Cover everything from a simple name change to a total conversion. I'm sure dozens of people would love that. (I'm one of 'em)

However, if you don't have the time, or the will, or both, briefly cover the basics, such as how to make a ship (used by AI as well) how to make a system, how to make a planet, how to make an outfit, and that sort of stuff.

I think I found out from word of mouth, it isn't on the forum list as it clearly isn't finished. I wonder if he ever will get round to it... 😉

    • Now there is a begginers guide to using ResEdit for making EV/O plug-ins, its the ResEdit guide and I think its available on Pontus's site. It was a great boon for me and it explains almost everything in a way that people who aren't tech heads (aka alpha geeks) can readilly understand. Also, download the EV/O Calc, it does all the hard (well, time consuming is a better word) math for calculating what resources need which id #'s and so forth. Both are available on Pntus's site (don't know the URL, but its easily found in the Web Links section of the EVO site). Good luck.

      Cheers,

      Well here is my idea:

Have a stand-alone document (like EVO does) which shows how to make a relatively simple TC (it's easier for me, does anyone think it should be a conversion? I don't really mind). So I'd first do govs, then weaps, than outfs, then ships, dudes, flets, systs, spobs, misns, and desc. I'd also include the plug. Does that sound good? I have enough time (Dreden War is at 0.1d so I'm taking a few days off) so I'll do it.

Should I just overview ResEdit for everything, or should I include say EVO dev map for systs/spobs?
