    • Need network EVO Arena testers

I need people to help test my network EVO fighter game.

I'll need to organize times to play and since I live in Australia, in would be benifitial if I had some Australian testers. Also programming knowledge would be helpful but not entirely necessary.

Just reply to this post if you would like to.

kberg? You up for it or are you too busy with your project?

      Thanks

      Tycho

I'd be very glad to help you. I don't live in Australia but the time zone is pretty much the same. I'm currently in Seoul, Korea. right above you in the northern hemisphere. after july 7th i'll have some time.....

glad to know that you've made alot of progress 🙂

    • I'd be glad to test also. I live in New Orleans, not anywhere near Australia, but I do have access to a network of 72 apple-talked (that's not the right term) iMacs and other assorted G3s. I also know some die hard EV/O fans who would gladly test out an arena shooter. I also have some minimal REALbasic programming experience, and I can't wait to see the new network build (Is it ready yet?).

kberg, where are you? It's been too long. At least keep us updated on 'the build's' status if you won't release the newest one to us.

    • I'll test. I have a G4, a 233mhz 604e PM 7500, and a nasty little Performa 475. I sold those two I had in between to get the G4, but...I think thats enough for some fair regression testing? It would also allow me to test LAN as well as internet. I have some limited knowledge of REALbasic. If it helps, I am currently reading through Matt Neuburg's REALbasic: The definitive Guide. I recall that this is coded in REALbasic? Hope you can find my assistance useful.

    • Whoa? Korea? Wow, I didn't know we had Koreans on the board.

As I forgot to say, I am NM, in the MST time zone. Its GMT + (-) something...heh. I don't know. I can test at odd hours, however, so time for me isn't a problem.

Actually i'm not korean....yet. I don't think anyone has noticed but right now i'm 13(14 this year). My parents are korean but i was born in the US so when i become 18(i think) i've got to choose my nationality(or something like that anyway). Of course i'd rather be american than korea.

I'm just living here for the time being. 🙂

PS. I said that i would have SOME time after July 7th. but actually i will have a LOT of time. I have 4 days of tests starting on the 3rd  . I really should be studying right now....

    • Sure, I'd test it out if you wanted...

I'm in Vancouver Canada, which is the very west coast of North America.

My own project has been moving along very well (thanks for asking 😄 )... Finalising feature sets now, figuring out how everything is going to interface. I'm working on build 19 for those who're wondering.

    • dude, id like to test. Im in california, USA, but time doesent matter. i could pretty much get on whenever...

    • Thanks everyone for replying.

What we need now is an irc channel or something so we can organize this. Any suggestions? icq?

Currently the build only has two players but it is terribly easy to make it 999 players. Or maybe I should make it 4. What do you say? Also appletalking won't be a problem either. I'll just use the same code.

IRC? I don't know if i'll be able to do that. I have mIRC but i'm not sure if it works.

ICQ? I've only used ICQ with a friend that uses a PC. that might be the reason that chat didn't work but...

For the number of players just choose a group of testers and either make it so that they can all play at the same time or just split the group into teams....

Tycho, you were saying earlier that you could make a Windows build. Is this still possible? I'd like to see it, since my Wintel is faster than my Mac.

By the way, I'd love to test it. My timezone is GMT -5.

Also... what network protocol will this use? TCP/IP?

If it could be set to 999 players, then you have the possibility for a really big multi-player game. Something to the extent of what kberg is designing (Thanks for the status update 🙂 ) With the money system you seem to have going, it could be very simple (I think) to create a massive universe where hundreds of people could play together at once. Thid might be more complicated that I think, but it is a possibility.

    • How about icq? We can all get together and chat...in private. If we announce the irc channel here, everyone will come wanting to hear about EVMP. Or maybe thats what you want. I am fond of open development, but its your decision. For anyone who cares my ICQ # is (...dave goes into icq to find out what it is..) 74956662.

I live in Dublin,Ireland (GMT, British (Pom to you ;)) Summer Time).

ICQ is the best for multiple chat and can transfer files (Stats etc...) as well as knowing who's online.
