    • You know, your on to something. But then again there is the problem of the resouce code. You would have to freeze frame all of the ships, then cut and paste. It's worth a try.

Does anybody know how many changes were made in Ares when it was put under ambrosia?

      Sincerely,
      Zeta

It'll be easier when Hera (an Ares scenario editor) comes out.

    • All these Greek gods? Ares, Hera, Psiodon (as in the ambrosia logo)... What in the world do they have to do with any of the games here?

Maybe I'll get more fame on my plugs if I start calling them things like Hermes, Appolo, Artemis, Prometheus, or Athena. 😄

Actually, the freak in the Ambrosia logo is Ambrosia, the food of the Greek and Roman gods. I catch up with my Greek/Roman mythology. 🙂

    • Nope, I believe the guy in the Ambrosia logo isn't food, it's Zeus.

Anyway, I've tried porting Ares' ships, it'd be darn hard to get each frame, and seeing the screen shot of Hera confirms what I was thinking anyway: Ares uses a different number of frames for it's sprites. It wouldn't work anyway.

Then Ambrosia Software is really Zeus Software. Catch up with your mythology.

    • Ok, I'm caught up on my mythology and I think the logo reprsents Zeus. I have never run across a personification of ambrosia in greek mythology, it seems to only be treated as food, or a plant. Therefore, it seems to me that the god represented on Ambrosia's logo cannot be Ambrosia because as far as I know Ambrosia isn't a god (or any other kind of personification).

Secondly, part of Zeus' power is his sole control over lightning. He alone is associated with lightening and in Homer, he is the only god whose epithet repeatedly involves lightning:

"Zeus who marshals the thunderheads returned..." (Book 1, l. 673 of The Illiad)

Hephaestus says: "The olympian lord of lightning/ What if he would like to blast us from our seats? He is far too strong." (Book 1, ll. 699-701 of The Illiad)

Later he is "Olympian Zeus, lord of lightning." (Book 1, l. 732 of the Illiad)

And Hector is described: "armed in bronze aflash like lightning/ flung by father Zeus with his battle shield of thunder." (Book 11, ll. 74-75)

What does all this have to do with the Ambrosia logo? The god there is throwing lightning, the sole privilige of Zeus, therefore that god is Zeus.

    • Actually, Ambrosia was the food the Jews ate on their way out of egypt during the exodus. It was said to be called mana and it tasted as sweet as honey. Many other cultures over the world have reportedly said the same thing during that time period. That a soft sweet bread fell from the sky, daily. These cultures therefore concluded that the food was of the gods who lived up in the sky. Thus, food of the gods.

I had thought the Ambrosia logo to be Psiodon. There with his Trident (staff) and the water swirling around him. But on the other hand, lightning does flash in the backround which would suggest that the rod in his hand is actually lightning as well. In which case, he would be Zeus.

Then again, we could be wrong altogether as the artist was simply trying to make a fancy picture to go along with a new company's name.

      Honestly, 🙂

But you can change the number of frames. Why else would you have to enter ther number of frames by number of frames in every single spďn file?
And the asteroids only are four by six (I think)

    • You CAN enter a different size matrix, but would EVO know what to do with it (with regard to ships)? You can give stellar object graphics a matrix of 6 x 6 but it still wouldn't be animated.

It would be nice though... especialy for bigger ships with slow turning rates, when that 10 degree direction shift looks awfully jerky.

    • Ambrosia is the food of the gods, but its AmbrosiaSW so, its the games of the gods.

Also the picture is of Zeus, as it is his lightning staff. To represent Ambrosia as the king of software. Well they are at least of shareware.

And Mazca, these post may be a little spammish, but I'll bet Andrew would just leave them here and laugh at them or something.

But to please you as well i'll add something to the discussion:

If you really wanted to port them to EV, get some of the EV Communities exellent graphics artists to make them, I've seen them do it with other ships they could probably do it with the ares ships as well.

      Am I a "veteran" yet?

    • Hmm, this topic containing discourse about both ships and gods has given me an idea... has anyone ever tried making a ship of a god? It would be funny if nothing else 🙂

    • Ambrosia was indeed the "food of the gods" in Greek mythology (which predates formal Judaism, and specifically the event Zeta noted by several thousand years). "Ambrosia" has been used to refer to many divine or miraculous foods over the years, in many cultures, but to my knowledge, the actual origins are indeed Greek.

There is no Greek god named "Ambrosia" -- the figure in our logo is indeed Zeus.

    • The idea of using ares graphics and galaxy is definetly worthwhile. I'll be trying (very hard) to make this possible for EVO. That is, of course, if it's ok with ambrosiasw that I use the Ares picts.

Side note: I had heard the theory of ambrosia from Velokovsky. He's done some great work in Science, and science related to Bible times.

Thanks for clearing the picture up for us. 🙂

Well, -david- made a ship for Cap'n Hector in The Quantumire Trilogy, and it looked like Zeus's head.

    • What if there were a little start-up company called NectarSW, nectar being the drink of the gods. Now that would really make things confusion. Of course, their logo would have some totally different god.
To add something to the discussion, it's too bad that you can't have animated planet graphics. And another thing I've wanted for a time is to have animated weapons graphics that also have different angles. For example, a rocket could have flashing lights on it, but also point in the direction it's headed.
On a totally different note, when I played Frozen Heart for the first time, my sound was off, so I didn't know that the plague was a ship attacking. I thought there was some sort of outfit that made little explosions pop up all over my ship. It's to bad that you can just abort the plagee mission.
When I say plague, I mean where you board the plague ship.

I leave you in confusion. ("Wait, who's confused? You or me?...")

Hello,I'm from the Ares community. I'm also a hera beta tester, and the first thing I'm going to attempt is to create a Ares plug for EVO, and vice versa. Of course, there are some technical discrepencies between the ship specs in the games, i.e. Ares only allows three weapons as opposed to the allotment of four in EVO, but hey, this leaves room for experimenting.

So having said that, any suggestions?

    • I think that if you wanted to make an Ares plug you could use the program "Make Spin". It his a feature where you can take a single pict and rotate it into a 36 frame tiled pict, and it even creates the mask. I had thought of doing this too, using missions from ares and ships, but I am almost positive that Ambrosia wouldn't want you taking their product and converting it into a plug that you can get for free.

      It would be fun though.
