Okay, I was up to "Attack Ore Stations." When I got to OS4, I got no message and still had the classified cargo in my ship's bay, but saw the red flag on the system Chenain(sp?) is in. I wasn't sure, so I stopped the game and opened it up in Res-Edit and Mission Computer (btw: I still had the "Campaign I: Xarnez" mission still listed on my mission screen.), but found nothing to help me. I went back to the game, only to find that I had no missions listed, no red-flagged systems... Is there some way I can go into it and reset the misbits? Amherst, MA, huh? So you're from Emily Dickinson-ville! Fantastic writer! Studied her in college.

Basically.. No, it's more that I'd be able to help you better, and since I don't know the first (or second, or third) thing about emulation, it'd be helpful if someone had it already set-up. I've tried many, many times to get EVO going on my PC, with no success. It'd be damn cool if I could release bug fixes while here at school, but again, without working emulation, I'm up a creek. Would it be easier to bundle it all up and direct send it over AIM? I'm on a T3 here so I can usually get about 700 kbs max.. It really all depends on what kind of connection you have..
The Xarnez Campaign will haunt you until you complete it. It's only there to remind you which campaign you are on. Once you complete the mission set for that campaign it'll mysteriously vanish whenever you go to the ending point..
As per the bits problems, take the mission you were stuck on and go to the next. Check the field availbitset and set it to -1. Check the availstellar and head there, and you should be able to pick it up. Again, without any way to get into the plug-in or game, I can't say for sure where you went wrong, but the method I described will get you to the next mission.
And I'm actually from Connecticut.. I just go to school in Amherst, at UMass.
