To address the subject of the topic, I think Override's gotten an undeserving bum rap for a couple reasons: One, the initial release wasn't a massive improvment from EV in terms of the engine (by that, I mean in the way Nova was). Two, the feel of the game was different--it wasn't the classic EV people had become accustomed to, and therefore many disliked it from the get-go. Some don't like the graphics, some think EV had a deeper and/or better plot.
My opinions are mixed. I think EV did a better job of creating a fun, open-ended atmosphere, where you could just fly around and privateer all day long. The scenario, IMO, wasn't all that serious: even today I still tend to view the entire EV scenario as a take-off of Star Wars, a view confirmed in my mind by the fact that there's a mission string involving a guy named Lucas. It kinda fits: A freedom-loving Rebellion acting against the big, powerful, tyranical Confederation (Empire). Not that I'm knocking it; it was and is good fun. It is for these reasons that I tend to chuckle when people talk about EV's more in-depth plot, as I see it as having the thinnest plot in the trilogy. Ironically though, this was probably EV's major strength: the open-endness of the scenario allowed for a LOT of different expansion plug-ins, most of which are very good. This, to me, is EV's saving grace. Its plug-in base far exceeds that of Override in terms of quality. As far as Nova goes its far too soon to tell, and we're not comparing that with anything anyway.
As for Override, I've always felt that its had a (slightly) darker feel to it, although there's certainly plenty of humor in there. However, it was certainly not open-ended the way EV was, as the mission strings in EVO were more linear. The good news was that there was a lot more to do, which keeps a person occupied. Unfortunately, Override has never enjoyed the level of plug-in ingenuity. Martin Turner did an excellent job with Frozen Heart, and Bomb was awesome with F-25 and ROTV I and II. Reign of the UE and Secession are notable plugs as well. Unfortunately, there are still a lot of possibilities left untouched; I can't think of a major or even moderatedly-sized plug having anything to do with the Crescent or the mystery of Council Station. All the good expansions involve the UE/Voinian conflict except for F-25, which gives the Miranu a moderate role. That said, I find Override's stock scenario better and more involving than EV's.
In terms of challenge, I think Override is better. The Dreadnought was much tougher than the Alien Cruiser, and the AI in general is better (though still quite dumb). If anything Override became too hard in 1.0.2 (swarms of death, anyone?), but there's no doubt it tests one's piloting much more than EV ever did.
In the end, there are things about both games that make them good. Which is better? To be honest, I don't know--and don't care. I play them both and like them both on their own merits, and that's good enough for me.

Yeah, I tend to notice some people dissing Override. Even though I played Override after playing Nova that made me appreaciate more on the features Nova had that Override didn't, I still haven't abandoned Override, because since I absorbed all the features Override could offer, I went to making plug-ins for them, and still there is alot of untapped potential when it comes to making EVO plug-ins.
Some things I like in Override that Nova doesn't do, like able to KA in EVO because Nova has ships with long range weapons. Of course this long range weapon is a pain but I guess the creators became realistic about space battles and all. And oh yeah, my mind is velocitated because most of the Nova ships are very slow compared to EVN, which is why I always set the speed to x2 all the time. (I wish they still kept the speed adjustment bar in the preferences). Playing Nova, I can now barely MP bad guys nowadays.

Yeah yeah I know that Ambrosia will no longer update EVO, because everybody is into EVN and stuff, but it would of really been convinient if they did a shift W for scrolling secondary weapons backwards just like they did the shift tab for scrolling thorugh targeted ships. Hmmm I forgot do they shift W for scrolling backwards for EVN?

When I played Override, I don't remember having a lot of secondaries, two-three, four maximum for a fighter bay. I do not know for Nova.
A long time ago, I might be mistaken, but I read that it could shift backwards or is it for target as you say.------------------

Seriously though, that's probably a pretty good idea... I don't know why andrew repeatedly insists on leaving Micah as a moderator everywhere. When I asked him to replace Micah with mrxak on the Developer's Board, he didn't - he replaced Bomb instead.

Hmm, perhaps if we rush him we can get some changes made around here. All I want is to get a mod spot on the Dev Board and Image Gallery... EVN board, too, that would be nice. Maybe even the FAQs...
