    • OOoohh... when you have a little more money, you can buy a crescent warship.

Sell the crescent fighter bay, and use the space for weapons and armor.

    • Emalgha Freighter. "Clenched Fist"

      3 swivel phase cannons
      2 SAD launcher + 44 SAD modules
      RCS upgrade
      engine upgrade
      thrust upgrade
      4 shield enhancers
      Azdgardi enhancement
      Shield generator
      Exp. Shiel generator
      2 fuel pods
      2(?) freighter to warship expansions
      2 mass expansions
a whole bunch of "mass-less" items (sensors, etc.)

This thing rocks! It maybe slow, but there is just something special about blowing the hell out of Crescent Warships and Igazras with a lowly Emalgha. πŸ˜„

    • Yesss πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ πŸ˜„ I got my Crescent Warship! It's called Black Star. It's decked out with everything I could cram into it. I mean literally it has absolutly no more space.
      -3 SAD launchers+ 30 ammo
      -2 pursuit missile launchers+ 10 ammo
      -3 mass expansions
      -1 thrust upgrade
      -1 RCS upgrade
      -1 engine upgrade
      -3 neutron turrets
      -1 ECM system
-both sensor upgrades (density scan and IFF decoder)
-I think I also had the sensor upgrade (not the nebula penetration thing-a-majigger)
I also took your advice to sell the sucky fighter bay doesn't really do much for ya except drain your credits and waste your weapon space. I was thinking into getting a Zidara after the Zidagar (Zidager?) missions but I think we can all agree that the Crescent Warship is a better choice.

    • Nooooo!

The Zidara kicks ass! Get a plug-in so you can get rid of the fighter bay+fighters and it is awesome! Sure it doesn't have the power of the SW or Igadza but it handles like a heavy fighter and it just looks cool...

    • I've got a Crescent Warship called 'Warlock' that I'm quite pleased with. I got rid of the SAD modules becuase of their lousy targeting and I make do with pursuit missles instead. I'd never get rid of the fighter bay though, I find the fighters really useful for softening up bigger ships before you get within range. I've just done the Emalgha missions, so I'm thinking about swapping the phase turrets for neutrons, as this will hopefully help me with the Zachit assualt on The Rock (like the NWO aren't giving him enough trouble, heh) which is damn hard.

I quite like the look of the Zidara though, with that particle beam and the troublesome Zidagar fighters I imagine it'd be pretty mean. I'm not sure I agree with it's classification as a pocket gunboat though, I'd say that would be more appropriate for the Arada.

I dunno; 1/day jump, heavy weaponry, lightish shields/armour. Pretty damn good pocket warship if you ask me...

    • I like the Zidara, it is my favorite ship. It doesn't have the raw power of the Igarza and the shields of the CW, but it more than makes up for this with its speed, phased beams, fighers and ECM system. Even though I have a plug-in that lets me sell the fighter bay (75T), I love the little guys...

      Anyway, my favorite ship is this;

      Zidara (Z.S.S. Armageddon)

      2 Phased Beam Cannons
      2 Phase Turrets
      Zidagar Fighter Bay
      2 Zidagar Fighters
      Dispersal Rocket Launcher
      25 Dispersal Rockets
      IFF + Density Scanner
      Engine Upgrade
Zidagar Upgrade (extra 20T weapon space for free!)
      Systems upgrade
      ECM
      Zidagar ECM
Needle Jammer (with this and the above two, NOTHING can hit me)
      2 Fuel Tanks
      Afterburner
      Cloaking Device

All in all very capable, fast and, and Azdara's are easy prey πŸ˜‰

I'd have said it was more like a destroyer, as opposed to the cruiser sized Crescent Warship and Igazra. I hadn't realised it was a one-day jumper, it's probably smaller than I realised.

I'm definitely fond of the Zidara now. I acquired a fleet of escorts for the attack on The Rock, that consisted of three Zidara and therr Igazras. The combined particle beams of the Zidara and their fighters are really quite powerful, they definitely did more damage than the Igazras although one of them died. I'd like to fly one myself, but I'm reluctant because I wouldn't be able to buy new fighters if they got blown up.

Swapping phase turrets for neutrons is a very good idea, by the way, even if it does require a trip through voinian space with no guns.

    • You can buy back fighters (I think) with the plugin 'Advance'. But as with most ships it's better to sell the bay (you can also do that with 'Advance') and use the space for expansion. With the extra space and a couple mass expansions you can upgrade it from a pocket warship to an equivalent of a CW. Still you have to do some strand missions and know where the Zidagar world is to get the Zidara. it's a great ship once you have it though :).

    • I've had an idea for quite a while now. The Miranu H. Freighter (the blue one) has so much cargo spaace and mass expansions and freighter to warship upgrades use cargo space you could turn this heavy freighter into a light warship :). Though freighters don't have much room for guns I think missiles would make up for it. I'm trying it out right now. Bet it would work well on other cargo ships that have a lot of space.

    • I can't believe how many Crescent Warship fans have come out of the woodwork to take part in this thread. I have owned many CWs, but I never see it as a special ship; just something to use on the way to getting hold of something better. The CW is well-rounded; no particular weaknesses, but nothing that can't be matched or exceeded by a different choice of ships. In a word, it's mediocre. A good way to tie up lots of your money if you still need to worry about Captain Hector; otherwise, a step in the upgrade chain with little to commend it.

For less money, in the 'Most Fun You Can Have With A Spacesuit On' category, try a Voinian Arada: strandless/basic arada with neutron cannon and a neutron turret. They're heavy, but you won't need secondaries.

    • I know what you mean. Crescent Warships are one of the best and most expandable ships in the game. The standard configuration is not to much but it's all sellable so you can empty it and start from scratch. I find the crescent ships are the best. The UE and Voinian are nice to own for a while but there arn't very many of them to choose from and you have to do missions to get any of them.

The heavy freighter to light warship was a success. I called the ship the S.S. Europa after one of Jupiter's moons The upgrades were
      -freighter to warship upgrade
      -3 mass expansions
      -2 neutron turrets
      -2 needle missile launchers + 25 ammo
      -SAD launcher + 20 ammo
      -sensor upgrade
      -IFF decoder
      -density scanner
      -Thrust, Engine, and RCS upgrades
      -4 shield capacitors
      -ECM system
      -and dospect armour
Freighters can make interesting warships. I really like this one and I might try it on some more ships.

    • Ain't the freighter upgrade just work only for Emalgha ships?

I personally find the crescent warship unpleasent to fly, but interesting on the upgrade versatility until I get something better to have fun or retrograde to another ship.

    • It works for almost all freighters

      Anyways, my current ship:

      The "Stardealer", an Igazra

5 neutron turrets, 4 Voinian heavy fighters, 5 UE fighters, a layer of dospect armour, a layer of bronev plating, a needle jammer, an UE cloaking device, a plasma siphon, two external fuel tanks, an escape pod, a density scanner, an IFF decoder, an afterburner, a sensor upgrade, two fuel scoops, an auto-refueller, three crescent fighters, a thrust upgrade, 4 shield enhancers, two Zidagar fighters, an engine upgrade, a mass expansion, an ECM system, a RCS upgrade, a pursuit missile launcher, 15 pursuit missiles, a Zidagar ECM system, and a marine outfit

    • I think I'll be sticking with the CW for the forseeable future, once I get the Azdgari shield upgrades I suspect it'll be unstoppable. I tried out a UE Cruiser for a bit, but there's some kind of glitch in the graphics that makes it go half transparent between 10 and 12 o'clock (that's between those angles on a clock face, not the time). It really annoyed me so I didn't save the game. I noticed this happens to UE freighters as well, is there a patch to fix this?

    • I get that funny "glitch" too, so does my friend. Are you running it on an emulator?

      ------------------
      SpaceMonkey

    • Yeah, Basilisk II to be precise. Up to now I've been really impressed with it, it hasn't crashed at all and it runs EVO at a pretty good speed (runs EV too fast though).

      ------------------
We'll slide down the surface of things.

    • I think it is an emulated problem because my friend is running it on Basilisk 2 (aswell as myself) and it is only us who complain. It doesn't bother me too much, I don't like the slow ships anyway...

      ------------------
      SpaceMonkey

    • Damn, that doesn't really leave me anything to upgrade to save for an Igazra, and I expect that if I captured one I'd have an SAE launcher and no way to get rid of it.
