    • Galaxy's Edge Poll

Maybe this is a bit premature, but I thought I'd do a GE poll to see what people think of my plugin 🙂

1: Favorite system government? (Starlight, Galaxy)
2: Favorite Earth Government (USA, Russia, China)

3: What ship are you in right now?
      4: Favorite freight ship
      5: Favorite fighter
      6: Favorite capital ship
      7: Favorite all-around ship

      8: Favorite weapon
9: Favorite personal item (can include hand weapons)

10: Are you taking the challenge?

Answer one question, two questions, all of em... however many you want.

    • Yes, very premature. I'm barely done exploring the solar system, let alone starting any missions, though it sounds like a few people out there are well on their way through. I like it very much.

    • Well, I'll answer it myself then 🙂

      Favorite system government: Starlight
      Favorite Earth government: Russia

      Current ship: shuttlecraft
      Favorite freighter: 500-ton miner
      Favorite fighter: Pulsar, baby 🙂
Favorite capital ship: Psycho (I think it's cool, even though it's wussy)
      Favorite all-around ship: Pulsar 🙂

      Favorite weapon: flux wave generator
      Favorite personal item: neural controller

      Challenge: yes

    • Still wandering around and trying not to get shot by very large ships.

I'm currently in a 200ton miner raising cash with a samurai bay,
with the hope of saving up to get a souped up 500ton miner.
(This pretty much rules out the challenge.)

Started the starlight string, but have fled quite fast away from a mission
where one has to defend a planet from a galaxy fleet. Perhaps when I get
      a faster/larger ship.....

    • Your plugin is far too realistic for its own good. Any decend plugin would give a shuttle more than one jump, and would make powercells give you a whole extra jump.

Angel came down from heaven yesterday.

    • I haven't really played the plug that long, so I won't vote, but it is a really good plug. It has the most possible outcome (except I don't know about Chine making it ) in the future. It is true about the accurate things. If you get a chance, check out this plug, this is most likely outcome in the next 200 years (no offense, Ambrosia). Everything is way more realistic, like energy weapons taking up energy, and stuff like that. If I can nitpick at one thing it is a little hard to get started with, and gameplay isn't has fun. But, the most probable outcome of our race's future.

    • Yeah, definitely a bit too early, but first feedback bits are:
f*ckin' impressive, a rather beautiful piece of work, the ideas behind it are almost too much for the EVO engine to cope with.
To me, it really does seem to give an impression of what early expansion within the Sol system may be (have been) like - from multinational-turned-interplanetary corporations replacing political governments in significance, right down to the Early Spacer's loneliness you experience going through all those empty - erm - jump points.
But I definitely haven't had the time yet to explore all the details (rest assured - I shall do so at leisure!)

So I can only tell you about my decisions so far with my first pilot:

1: Favorite system government? - more or less stumbled into siding with Galaxy, haven't decided yet whether I really like them.

2: Favorite Earth Government - so far, Russia - at least they don't turn up all over the place making a total nuisance of themselves (once again: praise to you for accurately reflecting the current role of the US on Earth.....) 😉

3: What ship are you in right now? - oh sh*t, forgot the name (and I don't want to have to re-write the whole post going to look it up!), it's the destroyer-type ship generally available from quite a few shipyards - I worked very hard getting lots and lots of oil from Venus to outlying planets/asteroids and deuterium back. Don't know yet whether that's the most efficient trade opportunity, but I got there in the end.
By the way, don't you think that a few other commodities might be of interest, such as nice food for outlying asteroids, etc. (always presuming that food replicators haven't been invented at that time).

      4: Favorite freight ship
      5: Favorite fighter
      6: Favorite capital ship
      7: Favorite all-around ship

Can't really answer 4-7 yet, as I haven't tried all of them.

8: Favorite weapon - haven't experienced all of them yet.
9: Favorite personal item (can include hand weapons) - so far, headless teddy bear. Do hand weapons play any other role apart from improving your chances at taking over disabled ships????

10: Are you taking the challenge? - No. (at least, not yet!) My attitude to EV/EVO (and plugs) is that if the missions aren't challenging in themselves, there's not much point in artificially creating a "challenge" by setting yourself conditions. I rarely play the "super-advanced" levels in other games, either, because I hate having to run around frantically doing everything at the same time.

The last point brings me to combat conditions in GE: some people may disagree, but I find that the general (high) speed of ships makes combat very confusing, and although the aspect of decreasing energy levels adds a realistic touch to battles, it's also rather tiresome for a computer game (larger battles tend to turn into situations where ships are sitting across one another for ages desperately waiting for their generators to recharge, occasionally exchanging a shot or two. Also, if you want to keep it that way, you should give AI ships the possibility of recharge upgrades, otherwise all one needs to do is evade missiles/torpedoes and wriggle about for a while to get the opponent to use up all energy, then come up close and finish them off sitting-duck style).
      ---------------------------------------------
Oh, and while I'm at it: a question:
How do you DESTROY a planet?????
I'm on the Galaxy mission where you're supposed to go to Planet X after the colony's been exterminated, finish off all pirates in the vicinity and then DESTROY the planet. You don't mean "dominate", to use a good old EV expression?
I'm just completely lost in this. A hint would be most appreciated.
      ---------------------------------------------

      ------------------

    • Oh, erm, addition, or rather correction to my post above:
(I'm sitting here in front of the computer, waiting for new translation orders to come in, but nothing seems to be appearing, so I've got loads of time to play your new plug!)

The ship I'm in at the moment is a Cutlass, and I'm growing to like it.

And about my question: the mission is of course not to go to Planet X and destroy it, but to the Pirate station nearby.
But I still don't know how to destroy a planet.
      HELP!

      ------------------

    • 1: Starlight, but I work for Galaxy Federation.
2: US - 'cos I reckon the Flintlock is the best capital ship in the game (I know it's half as strong as a cruiser, but with fuel for 100 jumps I can buy 15 phase blasters and fire them all day!)
      3: A cutlass.
4: The freighter - easy to capture.
      5: Pulsar, unquestionably.
6: Flintlock, and I'd like to mention that it's a beautiful ship.
7: Cutlass. A nice medium-capital ship, manouvrable and with enough space for a tokamak :).
8: Phase blaster or whatever it is you get when you work with Galaxy Federation.
9: Hmm... probably the headless teddy bear.
10: No, and not for the forseeable future!

Galaxy's Edge is an all-round excellent plug, with those new features gets an edge (ha ha) over other EVO TC's.

    • No, you obviously don't mean "dominate".
Just did that to the Pirates, and after return to Pluto, the mission is still active.

You don't actually destroy it - you just fight all the ships, and when you return you sort of find out whether it got destroyed successfully. The first time it doesn't work out, and you have to go attack it again. IIRC, there are some Starlight ships there too, and you have to kill them.

I suppose that's pretty confusing. The little 1.0.1 update just fixed a few bugs, but if I work on another update to add more missions and stuff, I'll make sure that one's a bit more clear.

    • Question 11: Would anyone be interested in a Galaxy's Edge bar? 🙂

    • Well... Lets see.
1: Starlight. I HATE those stupid missile things the Galaxy people fire, which I keep thinking are ships untill they explode.
2: Dunno. USA for the moment. (hehehe, destroy the russian "Fleet" of 1 ship...)
3: A .. um... that whale ship thing. Something Gravis.
      4: Nebula. Its the biggest.
5: Dunno. Haven't seen any fighters yet.
      6: ditto.
      7: ditto.
8: Well, I do like the plasma turrets.
9: That winch thing which recharges the ship. It's great. "Hang on, I'll just go wind up my ship." A clockwork spaceship.
      10: Nope.

Oh, yeah, another bit: I'm still having trouble with the Destroy the Galaxy Convoy mission. I sold my slow Cutlas and bought a faster Whale ship, and I can make it in time. I've killed all the ships, gone back, but nothing happens. I land on Rhea and it doesn't do anything at all. Anyone else have this problem?

Would that mean then, technically, that I'd have to "release" the pirate station (which I'm currently Overlord of... btw: it's such fun making "popcorn" out of those sorry little Widgets it has as a defense fleet!), before I attack once more? Or would it be possible to finish the mission with the station still dominated?
I'd miss those 9,000 creds per (3-day) jump...

    • Hmm -I'm finding GE really slow to get going, it's taking a lotta getting used to compared to EVO. I don't wanna distract from the poll, but any tips on kicking off and getting cash quick?

The two asteroid belts are good places to take cargo missions. As soon as you get a mission offer from Universal Energy Corporation, take it, even if it goes halfway across the solar system. You get a bunch of credits for your first UEC mission, and from then on you can get UEC shipping missions for 25,000 credits instead of the usual 10,000. Once you have enough, buy a transporter - it's a step up from the shuttlecraft. The transporter can haul more cargo than the shuttlecraft and it has more fuel, IIRC, so you can do more shipping missions then, or maybe start trading.

You'll probably want to wait till you have a tougher ship to start doing missions for any of the major governments. Perhaps a 200- or 500-ton miner, or a Psycho.
