    • Dreadnaught

I can't seem to destroy the voinian dreadnaught. I have a UE cruiser right now. What would be the best way to defeat this mission?

      • Buy yourself a UE Fighter and spearhead the Dreadnought (destroy the fighters first, then make sure it has no rockets and charge headfirst at it, then pull back and recover, then charge again - holding down A to align)

      • Do the Strand missions and get either a) an Igazra, or 🆒 an Azdara with the EXP. Shield Generator. Both these mission strings are rare and difficult, but once you have one of those ships give it blaze weaponry and the Dreadnought will fail.

Never use any other capital ship, or a ship with phase weaponry. With capital ships you're forced to go head on head, and you'll lose there. The best options are the huge Igazra with upgrades, but still using spearheads, or fighters.

    • Let the UE Destroyers move in and attack the Dreadnought itself, while you take out the fighters. When the fighters and the UE Destroyers are all gone, move in and use any rockets or missiles you have on it (completing Paaren Station is a good idea so you can access Voinian weaponry). Then, dodge around at the edge of its weapons range using your turrets to peck away.

    • I usually use cheats to beat the Dreadnought, since it's so hard I usually can't beat it. I give it 1 shielding and make myself invincible. Even then it's hard.

    • How do I get a cheat?

    • You could go cloaked and then wiat for the UE destroyers to kill the fighters and then luanch hunter missles at it.

    • Hmm, I'm surprised. I've been able to kill the Dreadnought in a UE Cruiser before....

<cool tip>If you want more help against the Dreadnought but don't want to stoop to cheats (bah), the Paaren Station string can help you if you haven't finished it already. By getting to the misson where you take the defector to Paaren Station, you can get an extra 4 UE ships on your side no matter where you go. In fact the Paaren Station string can make several other strings easier, from the Free Huron string to the Needle Jammer string. </cool tip>

It is worth noting that while focusing on the fighters while the escorts do the work isn't necessarily a bad strategy, if you attack the Dreadnought while the UE ships are it'll be torn between who to attack, you'll have a somewhat easier time of it that way as well.

Otherwise, letting the UE ships go at it will probably get them all destroyed, but it will weaken the dreadnought a bit. Given that you have a UEC, you should get 3 or 4 rocket launchers from it, get a little ways from the dreadnought, line up a clear shot, and let him have it. With 3 or 4 launchers you can send off a rapid fire of rockets, which will do a nice bit of damage for you. If you bothered to disable the dreadnought's fighters, you can board them for a reload once you're out. Once you've used all the rockets you can use, you'll have hopefully killed it. If not it won't have a lot of armor left, which means you'll have to get down and dirty to finish it off the rest of the way. If there are any other disabled ships, try boarding them and see if you can get em' to fight on your side. If not, you'll have to take it on intelligently with what you have. Launch those UE fighters, send them against it, then ATTACK it at the same time the fighters do its getting fire from multiple directions. As said before, this will confuse the AI some to your advantage.

      Good luck.

    • I usually find that what works best is to be in a UE Fighter.

      • Leap into the system and use your turning to get behind the fighters and destroy them. Take special care to protect the destroyers from fighters.

      • Go view the carcasses of those destroyer escorts.

      • Dance around the Dreadnought until it runs out of rockets.

      • Hold down A (align), Up (forward), and space bar (fire). You will charge at the Dreadnought, and lose about 50% of your shields in this pass of the spearhead tactic. DON'T use rockets yet.

      • Pull back and heal your shields, while the Dreadnought recovers less than half the damage you've done.

      • Charge again. Later on feel free to use rockets, don't use them too early on.

You don't need cheats, that's just stupid. I can't believe Jess would need them... 😉

    • I think I had the easiest time ever with the Dreadnaught. I stopped by Outpost Alpha and got the reinforcments, then went to the Vorik system. The fighters immediatly began swarming me so I began taking them out. I finished and did a quick sensor sweep of the area, showing that amazingly all Voinian ships had been destroyed and about 4 UE Destroyers and 3 UE Cruisers were left and had taken the Dreadnaught down to 60% armor. I was lucky to get in there and get the last shot in before it blew.

    • I've been able to beat the Dreadnaught in a UE Destroyer before, although it's a bit difficult. With the Carrier however, it's a snap. Launch your fighters, ignore theirs, and throw everything at the Dreadnaught. It's never been able to last more than about 30 seconds when I do this. You can mop up the fighters later if you want.

Those little UE Fighters really do make a difference, they're awesome against the Voinians.

    • I always do it in my azdara. I use the same spearhead method, though since its an azdara with armor/shield gen./exp. shield gen., I can make the passes a lot quicker, however, since im using phase, it takes more passes. Just choose a fighter, it works with both of them.

    • To tell the truth i had to cheat in the end though i attack it in the past with my souped up UE DESTROYER and almost killed it almost....USE ONLY BLAZE or emalgha turrets on it or prereebly both the mikste i made was using phase....im so dumb some times.....

Of course this was before i hada compleated the azdagari string so i didnt have my ex-perimental shield generator and other bit -n- bobs...but now thats a different story....ehhhhh...i took it on again and managed to beat it witout cheats a few days ago.....

      ------------------

    • To cheat, download 'Dread not the Dreadnaught' and lob it in your plugins folder, then try again.

To defeat the thing without cheating is much more satisfying. Don't feel forced to heed those who say you must use a fighter. Almost any ship is faster than the Dreadnaught, and most are faster than the parasite Voinian fighters it carries. Move away from them, and the fighters will follow you, strung out in a line. Defeat them one at a time.

Don't destroy the Voinian fighters/interceptors; just disable them. Board them, take their rockets and attempt capture. Fire the rockets into the Dreadnought from a safe distance, and when you run out, board some more Voinian fighters and take their ammo as well. Interesting weird factoid: you can board a fighter, steal all its rockets and then capture it. The fighter will then head towards the Dreadnaught at full speed, and start firing... rockets.

If the Dreadnaught, in its lumbering pursuit, passes over a disabled fighter, it will bring it on board, repair it, and launch it again. Try not to lead the 'naught straight over the trail of disabled fighters.

Alternative strategy: remove all secondary weapons from your ship, and max out on Miranu defense pods. Eight launchers and a supply of ammo. Fly straight over the Dreadnaught, and launch a salvo of pods when you're right over him. Move out of range of his turrets, turn, and hit him again, and again. If you're in an Igazra, you can just park on top of him, and hold down the fire button.
